      Necrotic Nick- They've always be super consistent. I really can't think of a Sevendust album that's flat out bad honestly.

    Wow, surprised to see this getting reviewed here. I love Sevendust, they’re such a consistent, solid band - sure they don’t make jaw-dropping masterpieces, but they also don’t suck. The thing is they’re a bit too metal for the pop rock crowd, but they’re a bit too pop/light for the metal crowd so I feel they get overlooked a lot. Looking forward to seeing your thoughts.

    • @thrallsofmetal
      @thrallsofmetal  Před 3 lety +2

      Necrotic Nick- Actually, I brought up the point about them not being heavy enough for most of the metal crowd and even too heavy for a lot of casual radio rock listeners.

      That’s why I puts them hard rock with some metal influence. They never disappoint me. I love these guys. Been listening to them since I saw denial debut on MTV. I was in 8th grade at the time and I’m about to turn 37.

    I am probably alone in this, but I always liked NEXT. I also like Black Out the Sun, and Cold Day Memory. Alpha was a heavy one, and I love Driven from that album.

    Late to this review but always worth it... As far as an experimental Sevendust goes we kinda got that when Clint left but for most part things went back to norm when he returned. Regardless these guys are a personal fave and this album was okay but IMO the previous record All I See Is War was a later-day 7D classic \m/

    Enjoyed the review. This is actually my favorite 7D since Seasons. Agree completely that the band needs to expand the length of some songs. Seems like we often get a 3 second taste of what could be

      Necrotic Nick- I remember really liking Kill the Flaw but that was pretty similar to this one as well. I just think they get in too much of a hurry to get to the giant chorus. Granted, they write some killer choruses but I'd like to hear them take the bridge for a longer walk or really work on building tension more slowly.

  • @jboogedy
    @jboogedy Před 3 lety +1

    Never really been a fan of these guys but I've had some friends tour w/ them as tattoo artists on the road and they came back w/ some wild stories of backstage antics while skiing some major snow slopes, lol. Gotta give them credit though, both times I've seen them live they shredded.

    Always had a soft spot for Sevendust, I've got a few of their albums and I'd say Home is probably my fave.. Like you say they never release an out n out masterpiece but they are always super solid.. I'd never say they were Nu metal tho, I think they just got lumped in that category cos of the era they started up in!

    • @thrallsofmetal
      @thrallsofmetal  Před 3 lety +2

      Necrotic Nick- I'm still really partial to their debut. Those songs still hit home for me any time I jam them. They were close to nu metal and that was often the kind of bands they toured with but they had a lot more going on in their sound overall.

    With 13 quality albums under their belt, I think it would be more than safe for them to really change it up and go experimental for their next album. They have so much talent. I'd be interested to see what would happen if they really go out of their comfort zones, but still remain Sevendust. I don't know if they'll ever make another album as good as Animosity, though.

    • @thrallsofmetal
      @thrallsofmetal  Před 3 lety

      Necrotic Nick- Honestly, I'd just like to hear some longer songs and take what they already do and expand it a bit. They're comfort zone is a solid song but often it just feels to condensed or just in a hurry to get to the big, epic chorus. Still, I don't dislike any of their albums I just expect a bit more after so long of them simply staying the course.

    • @URin1984
      @URin1984 Před 3 lety

      @@thrallsofmetal Yeah. I agree that it would be good to hear longer songs. I was listening to Alpha recently and one thing I really like about that album are that a good handful of the songs are longer. Burn has got to be one of my favorite Sevendust songs. Good points.

  • @HumanDissection

    I'll always favor the self titled debut album from 1997 the most. It had a sound and heaviness I feel was never matched on ensuing albums. Like the breakdown pit part section of the track My Ruin is the balls.

    Sevendust are one of those bands I've always respected but never really got into. I'll check this album out though; probably after lunch. I have a video idea: you guys should do a ranking of popular halloween candy. We just did two at my work. We did a ranking two weeks ago of the worst Halloween candies and today we did one for the best.

      Necrotic Nick- They're remarkably consistent and I love their work ethic and all the heart they put into their work. It makes me root for them even harder. I want to say Shred and I had that discussion about Halloween candies not too long ago. We've got a lot of other stuff we're working on though so I don't think we'll get down to a video but I do love their idea.
