Who’s Afraid of the Final Judgment? Goats, Sheep, and the Genesis Gospel in Matthew 25

  • Have you done enough to be saved? Will your acts of mercy be sufficient to place you among the “sheep” at the final judgment? Those are the wrong questions to ask about Matthew 25. As Chad Bird demonstrates, Jesus is talking about an inheritance not an earned reward. In this video, he discusses the OT background of inheritance, how Genesis 1 is about the Gospel, and how the prophets were the ongoing theophany of the Lord.

Mr. Chad. Thank you for your videos. I am sorry to see so many mean comments. At the end of the day, who can truly say, they understand GOD. I hope you continue sharing your thoughts and pay no mind to people who do nothing to share any thoughts on Christ but try to destroy those who do. On another note, it is still hard to accept that I will be with this great and holy God whom I have defiled too many times. From a shattered heart in Canada. Canada.

It is clear from the parable that Jesus is not dividing the people based on what they did, because nearly everybody (Christian and non-Christian) has in some way or another done the things for which Jesus commends the sheep. However, nearly everybody (Christian and non-Christian) has also in some way failed to do those same things, similar to the goats that stand condemned. Our deeds are not the basis for separating sheep from goats. There is a totally separate basis for the separation, which as Rev. Bird indicates, is not explicitly stated in the parable. The basis for separation is faith in Christ. What is most interesting to me in the parable is that in the sheep, He only sees the good they did - and says it was done to Him. Their sins are gone and forgotten by God's grace through faith in Jesus. In the goats, He sees only their sin, because they have rejected the only means of salvation from the natural human condition. Without Jesus, it is impossible to please God.

Is there a also a a difference before Christ died for our forgiveness and Mercy cleansing healing from our sins?
And was law based and telling the Jews/Pharaciess and Gentiles at the time Jesus Christ/Messiah was a human on earth?
Now in the Spirit and under Grace faith love.

God only sees our good works once we have been cleansed by Jesus blood. He only sees the sin someone has done if they were not covered. Those would be the goats.

A humbly submit that you changed it. The sheep did not earn the inheritance. They were doing good deeds because they chose to do good. The sheep shows to be selfish. What always was interesting to me. Is the fact that both the sheep and the goats don't seem to know anything about Jesus! Like they've never been to a church or heard the gospel. I'm a Christian and I wouldn't say when did I do this. Just an observation

Thoughts on the four carpenters and what the Pharisees were thinking. Frega truth table. Four possibilities. Jesus is Messiah or Jesus is not Messiah. Which Messiah? Messiah, who is Elijah who Jesus says has come and gone. Messiah is Ben Joseph. This guy says his dad is Joseph. Problems. In Jewish tradition, Messiah Ben Joseph goes to war against Gog, which in Hebrew means roof, or could refer to Rome. The temple is one big roof. The main problem however is that Messiah Ben Joseph loses the war and dies. Messiah the Charitable King, Melchi Tzaddik, comes and resurrects him.
Now, you are a judge in Jesus' trial. Your options are Jesus is guilty and not the Messiah. You declare Jesus guilty. All is well and good. Jesus is innocent of all charges and is not the Messiah. You declare him guilty. You just convicted an innocent man. What does the High priest say? "It is better that one man should suffer..." Now, Jesus is the Messiah but he is Messiah Ben Joseph. You convict him. You just condemned the Messiah. Jesus is Messiah and you acquit. He goes out into the world and loses the war. This is not a grand option either. What do you do? You address the issue head-on and Ask Jesus, "Are yo the Messiah?" This is Jesus' out. All he has to say is no and he walks. Then comes Jesus' great pun which only occurs in Hebrew and Aramaic. "You will see Ben Adam coming in the clouds, עננים. The word for poor is also עננים. "You will see me coming with the poor." The war is on.
Another thought I found when studying Hebrew was, "Hear, O Israel, the statutes and the ordinances." The problem is that statutes and ordinances don't come until like 1517. The Hebrew word for statues, חֻקִּים literally translates, "Customs." The Greek, δικαιώματα is a very faithful translation. Its main force means custom. The Hebrew word translated ordinance is הַמִּשְׁפָּטִים Mishphot, which literally translates Judicial president. The main force of that noun is also a decision as in a court.
The passage to note, however, is It is not with your fathers that HaShem cut this Brit. It is with us, each of us, here, alive this day." You say this refers to those Hebrews who stood at Mount Sinai. With this clause in the passage, the Ten words would only apply to that generation. Jews and Christians believe it applies to us also, and the promises that go with it. Therefore, At Mass, or Christian Liturgy, we live our rescue. For Jews, it is the rescue from Mitzraim. The Egyptian word for Egypt is Kemet. Mitzraim means oppression. It is also the Hebrew word for Leprosy and wasps. For Christians, our rescue is the cross of Jesus Christ. Jews, therefore, relive each Passover in the present time, for the first time, each time, every time they celebrate Passover. Christians relive Jesus' Passion, dying and rising with him as you and Saint Paul correctly point out, every time we celebrate the Eucharist.
Now, Matthew 25:31-46. Matthew 25:46 ends that chapter. Matthew 26:1 beings the passion. As you do to the least of these my brothers, you participate in the passion.
These are just my thoughts. take them as they fall, please.

Jesus' brothers and sisters are not children of Satan. John 8:44, 1 John 3:10. You miss this, you get the whole passage wrong. Jesus is talking about how they treated the believers - Jesus' brethren. This whole section is parallel to 1 John 3:10-18.

Boy did you get this backwards. Jesus said what he meant. It's based on the 2 greatest commandments. Loving God and loving others. The inheritance is through adoption when we deny the devil, the father of sinners, and accept Christ and follow his teachings. You are right to fear judgement. The beginning of wisdom is fear of the Lord. Also God's promises to Israel WERE conditional. God many times threatened to cut them off unless they came to repentance. Eventually this led to loss of the promise and their going into captivity. God is just and those thinking God's promises are unconditional conveniently forget that God is just.

You sound like one who believes in works based salvation. That’s totally unscriptural. We are saved through faith by His grace alone. Ephesians 2:8-9.
If works help save us or keep us saved then how many works do we have to do to get saved ? You don’t know because none of that works. Only grace through faith!
Also you said God is just which is correct. But do you realize on your best day you fall short of the righteous and holy standard of God. We all fall short. But God in His mercy saved us by His grace and that is accessed through faith. Works are essential in the Christian life but they do not save anyone.

    • @stevelenores5637

@@89afvet It's not works based salvation. That is a misunderstanding. It's Christ based salvation. Do you know where the word Christian came from? It was first spoken in Antioch (Book of Acts). In Greek it means "little Christs". That is what we are supposed to be, imitators of Christ. In other words we are to follow Christ in both word and deeds. Salvation isn't something written on a postcard that if read it will get you into the Kingdom of Heaven. No! No! No! Salvation is a free gift of God to those who believe and follow the Son. He who has the Son also has the Father. You can't have the Son and work for the devil. Your works must align with your faith, otherwise your faith is dead. No one is without sin so we must repent away from the devil, and beg forgiveness for our sins from God. God is merciful and the only sacrifice he requires is a humble heart admitting that we have sinned against Him only.
That is what scripture says if you read all of it.
