For anyone living in an area with a creek or marsh of sorts, check for dead cattails! The stalks are lightweight, soft, and smooth when you peel the dead leaves from it. Often they're pretty uniform and straight in shape as well! They're great for making stars and you can easily make one or two stars from a single stalk depending on the size, or perhaps one large star from five stalks if you feel like it.
