guys you heard about unwound's reunion tour??? They got Jared Warren to play bass in place of Vern (RIP), they're touring 2023-2024

So awesome you did unwound. Thank you. Fake train is one of my favorite albums ever. The comparison to Drive Like Jehu is spot on. The first Jehu album in particular.

So here are my thoughts after watching his:
1:02:07 "one of the worst produced songs on the album"
I HIGHLY disagree. The vocals sound fucking fantastic and perfectly complement the overall sound of the song, the drums sound amazing and the interlocking guitars are mixed so well. The overall production of this album is incredible.
Btw, yeah Justin might not be technically great at singing but that really doesn't matter to me at all. His voice in every Unwound album is one of the main reasons I love Unwound so much.
I did have a lot of other disagreements from your guys' comments on every album you discussed here but really this is all subjective so it is what it is.
Besides all of that I'm glad one of you gave props to Future of What (my favorite Unwound album). Every fucking song on that album is god tier and I'm glad you pointed out that the filler tracks aren't technically part of the album (although even if they were it would still be my favorite Unwound album). Petals Like Bricks is just fucking insanely awesome
Also, I did wish you talked a little bit more about Lady Elect but that's just because it's my favorite Unwound song haha.

Unwound is my favorite band and I'm beyond psyched for next year's reunion tour. It's so great to hear knowledgeable people gush about Unwound, about Leaves Turn Inside You, and about Sarah Lund's drumming. Something about her playing just clicks with my ADHD-riddled brain in a way that nothing else in the world does. To me, when that drumming weaves together with Vern's apocalyptic baselines and Justin's ear for both noise and tunes. . . they're untouchable.
That said, I'm glad that you guys acknowledge the lack of tightness on Fake Train (which a lot of fans don't seem to talk about). Their live recordings are sometimes tighter than the albums, and this is especially true of Fake Train -- when I listen to any of those tracks, I typically go to a live recording like the Peel session version of Kantina.

The reason they don’t sound like most other post hardcore bands is because Justin approached his guitar playing in a more post punk way, not hardcore punk. More like Gang of Four.

I've been hoping that you'd make this episode! First Rapeman and then this, all that has to happen now is for you guys to put out a Neurosis episode in the near future and I'll start to suspect that you're reading my mind.
Thanks for all the podcasts. You're some swell dudes :)

Can't believe that yall didn't mention the track "Lady Elect" when discussing Repetition. Maybe the most emotionally moving song they ever recorded. Genuinely haunting, despondent, and resigned guitar riffs. Makes the record my second favorite behind Leaves for sure.

This band was absolutely so seminal for me and my taste in music. I was given a mix tape by my older sister’s best friend in around 1998 that had Corpse Pose on it among other amazing stuff I’d never heard of (the Make-Up, Getaway Car, Team Dresch, Polvo). I was 14 or 15 at the time and I had never heard anything like it. That tape basically turned me into a punk immediately. Unwound remains my platonic ideal of what a band should sound like.

If the missing Apple track is the first 5 minutes of the first song on Leaves Turn, you’re missing nothing. I got the promo CD because it cuts that off and keeps all the songs on one cd. And yes, all those great Indie Rock bands know each other, from meeting a few and hearing a few stories, hearing name drops on bootlegs…

There's lyrical themes running throughout most of these albums. I'm surprised you didnt discuss that, especially with The Future of What and the extra tracks being part of it and "Who Cares?" playing after "Below the Salt". I'm just so happy you guys loved these albums as much as you did. Unwound my GOATs.
