Nicodemus knew very well about the concept of being born again. For many centuries, rabbis had referred to converts to Judaism as being reborn - hence the silliness of "can he enter the second time into his mother's womb?". Nicodemus' question was a trick to trip Jesus up, which Jesus immediately knew & responded sarcastically "art thou a master of Israel, and knowest not these things?"

When my sister found out that I was developing an interest in reading the Holy Bible, she invited me to attend church with her. I went a few times and soon she was trying to get me to be baptized in water at her church. I knew her church wasn't right for me and I expressed this to her one night as we had a long telephone conversation before bed. I also prayed to God that night to help me understand the significance behind the tradition.
I fell asleep and had a strange dream that told me to "just go to John 3:9". I woke up immediately after hearing that and searched my Bible for the verse. I learned about Nicodemus for the first time that night and became a true believer in Christ. I believe the Holy Spirit entered a few days after that.

Lots of debate on why Nic came at night….my two cents: back door politics. 1. A ruler of the Jews, a Pharisee comes to see Jesus and his first recorded statement is, “…we know that you are a teacher come from God…” So, for me, it’s like Nic is saying, “Hey, Jesus, I’m a Rabbi and you are a Rabbi so let’s see if we can work together.” Are our teachings aligned together? But then Jesus, knows the heart of man (see end of John 2). So, Jesus dives right into Nic’s heart.

The Gospels main point was to tell all about Jesus and that’s the most important one we get the details on. I do enjoy the character being explored in The Chosen as long as we remember that it’s just their opinions about Nicodemus, informed by history and tradition. It is so interesting to think about how these people were all those years ago. Keep doing these great videos we really like them!

I searched Nicodemus and this popped up. I’m doing a Children’s Church lesson on him and the points I’m going to try to make was that he was mentioned in John chapter 3 when Jesus was still free but Nicodemus needed cover of darkness, chapter 7 when Jesus was being falsely accused and held but Nicodemus was defending Jesus’ right to be tried fairly, and 19, when Jesus was executed and Nicodemus was instrumental in burying Him when it could have been quite scandalous or even dangerous for him to do so. I will also point out that Jesus calls Nicodemus a ruler of the Jews and a teacher of Israel. We don’t know if Nicodemus ever knew Jesus as his Lord and Savior. He met Jesus as a knowledgeable religious leader. Maybe he can lead us to ask ourselves if we are just a knowledgeable church-goer, a RINO (religious in name only), and a leader who never actually shares the Gospel message? Or will we learn from Nicodemus and share John 3:16-17 whenever/wherever we can?

I have similar thoughts. Nicodemus knew Jesus was sent by God, but never appeared to acknowledge Him as God. There is no indication that he was ever willing to walk away from his lofty position in life as a Pharisee to follow Christ. He was lukewarm at best.

I wish people talked about the Gospel of Nicodemus more, as it is one of the "forbidden" books that is actually great and probably written by the man it claims it is (like the page we have found of the Gospel of Peter). No, the Book of Pilate or whatever, even though it is paired with the Gospel of Nicodemus, are not 2 parts of 1 book; They are 2 books that were found alongside each other.

Want to learn more about Nicodemus?
The Gospel of Nicodemus, also known as the Acts of Pilate, is an apocryphal gospel claimed to have been derived from an original Hebrew work written by Nicodemus, who appears in the Gospel of John as an associate of Jesus. The title "Gospel of Nicodemus" is medieval in origin. Dates to approximate 4th or 5th century.

The Gospel of Nicodemus (Albeit a gnostic romance) still adds a layer within the tapestry of the trial and desperation of the Jewish leaders. It’s quite a read actually. I recommend seasoned Christians to read it. For the new believers I say the Bible is more than enlightened.
But after you dive into the Bible, you can’t stop wanting to hear even just a possible work or two more about the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus.
Where there is smoke, there is fire. And where there is fire, therein lies the face of God.
Jesus is the Christ and there is no other like him.

Hello Brandon. I've stumbled upon your video while I've been searching for more information about who Nicodemus is in the Bible. Long story short, I grew up with religion being seen as an optional tradition within my family. Much of my family so goto church regularly, and again - they have offered when I was younger, and it never stuck.
So! I adore a book series called The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher - who, from what I understand, is a very devout man himself. He has also confirmed that his Faith is a heavy influence on this Epic. Fun fact, a child character from.... Not the first published book - Storm Front - but the book he wrote that was meant to be before it: Welcome to the Jungle.
The main character - budding private detective Harry Dresden is walking the mean streets of....mid 90s Chicago - the setting is set in modern day Chicago (written from an adult in the 90s perspective) anyway, I digress.
Harry Dresden is searching for a reportedly missing child. Faith allister. However, she is not missing. She has run away from her inattentive parents. Shenanigans happen and eventually Harry convinces her to return home. Oh also Harry is a wizard and can do really really cool magic but that's another topic.
Finally, when Jim Butcher publishes his final book of the Dresden Files. It will be grown Faith Allastor who gives Harry the case, that will bring the coming apocalypse. This ending the dresden Files, thus rises the Big Apocalypse Trilogy that will tie everything together.
And Nicodemus Archleone. Who has taken up one of the Blackened Denarius - one of the 30 pieces of Silver, and is working hand in hand with the fallen angel that resides within that coin, as he also wears the Betrayers Noose around his neck as a tie. It renders him and vulnerable from all harm....
I think you'll like this series a lot. I can spend.....HOURS pouring over this series

The Gospel of Nicodemus was about Christ's descent into Hell after his crucifixion and how he stormed the gates of hell to release Adam and Eve, John the Baptist, the Saints, the Prophets, Habbakiuk and KIng David who had all been held in there by Satan and the Prince of Hell since Adam and Eve had eaten of the forbidden fruit in the Garden which created a curse which held them all captive and Jesus dying on the tree released the curse and allowed him to go into the underworld and release all those held captive by Satan, you have to read it!!!!
