I Love Los Angeles Dude!.
I call it City
I love how you captured the car on the WRONG side of the road (5:58), representing the very essence of LA drivers.
Totally!
Its likely a typical "One-Way" street. There are a few dwntn.
I L❤VE L.A.
Yea it’s really developing a lot of $$ being dumped into DTLA rents are skyrocketing and it still has a huge homeless problem it’s nice every once in awhile to visit they have some nice rooftop lounges they need more public transportation and routes to make getting there easier.
Wow those old buildings are incredible and I’m so happy to see them get restored and renovated . Thanks for the tour.
Thanks for your great video! The Downtown Los Angeles,(DTLA for short), renaissance, has experienced lots of fragmentation, that's kept it from experiencing the total refreshment of its renewal efforts! Its on its way!
It’s so much to hang out in DTLA😍 It's a great mix of the old and the new 👍
He got a friend to show him around very good friendly guy thank you for sharing your beautiful video love your video thank you
Thanks Anne! Brigham was really nice to show me around
Wow, as much as I love DTLA, I learned so much new things that I’ll be doing this Friday! Thank you so much! (:
Awesome Disney Mike!
Chris - this format is excellent. I'd love to see more walking tours like this! Great work. Thanks!
Thanks James!
Glad to know this info. Thank you
Thank you for the tour!, Can't wait to go back to LA this summer!
Thank you for this video! Can not wait to be there. It helps a lot:)
Thanks for sharing, that was lovely to watch and also informative as well, much love from Toronto Canada 🍁💌😊.
Thanks EAF!
Wow the view of hotel that you mentioned lastly..is looks like heaven!
This is one of the most informative videos I have ever seen about Downtown LA. Great job!
Thanks J Brown!
Cool video! I plan to move to southern California in a few years. Until then, videos like yours really help to not only learn more about LA, but also helps to imagine being there. Thank you.
Love the reuse of all these old buildings. Thanks for the tour.
Build on the carpark
This video is great, I've just re-watched it, as I like to rewatch some of your videos that I liked more, and this one is particularly interesting for me as I like los angeles and to find a video so well done about downtown Los Angeles is not easy, and this video is worth watching it twice. I wonder how must be LA downtown during this time of Christmas, it would be great if you make a video now with that magnificent connaisseur of the area, it's really a great guide. Best regards
Thank you so much, Brigham and Chris. Downtown has changed tremendously since I worked there 40 years ago. It was dirty, run down but full of small businesses I desperately miss. Regular folks have been forced out by the affluent and corporate ownership is mixed bag. I'm so glad some of the movie theaters and hotels have been restored!
I think the future is looking bright for DTLA!
Great video! So many hidden and unique points of attraction and information about them to consider for my trip to LA this next week. You also look extremely excited and proud to have your friend on this video with you, which made it all the more enjoyable to watch :)
Thanks Nicole!
Im so happy to hear about the palace theatres. One is converted into a church. The lady that leads the church is popular, l cannot recall her name. She has hundreds of old/ancient bibles that fill up the beautiful lobby.
L.A. was very ornate & fancy. My grandparents told stories of long walks downtown wearing their fur wraps, and tuxedos while heading to the b/w movies. And the sidewalks had purple square lights built in to the side walk. You can still see them on 7th St, while heading towards "Skid-Row".....
Great video! I'm visiting LA for the first time in July! Don't forget folks there is a Discover Los Angeles tourist information center in the lobby of the Wilshire Grand Intercontinental Hotel!
The restaurant there is Epic! Wait till you see the view👌🏼
Never saw as much of Downtown LA as i would have liked but the parts i saw..i LOVED!!! Visited the House of Machines, skyspace and Golden Gopher bar..will deffo be ack on holiday there in 2021..GO L.A..!!!!!
Chris, awesome video! I just talked to Brigham this morning, he is an old friend. Also I just went to crystal cove after watching your video, never knew those bungalows were there. Thanks for the scoop.
I visited LA DOWNTOWN last Fall and I wish I watched this before that....Must visit again int the near future!
Now you've got a few new spots to check out ;)
Found you from the Oak Glen video and clicked on your LA playlist and were so happy to see our friend Brigham!! Very cool. He has shown us around at Christmas time and I must say it is GORGEOUS at that time! And just so cool in general, so much better than we expected. You are right, no one loves DTLA more than Brigham! Love you Briggs!
Awesome! Thank you! And Brigham is awesome too!
Downtown Los Angeles looks quite nice. I really like how they are continuing to add new things to it and make it very walkable!
We definitely walked through the nice part.. as you saw at the end it's not all this nice :).. but it's all getting nicer
Agreed. I'm glad that things are improving nevertheless!
My Mom and I used to take The RTD to go eat at The Clifton’s Cafeteria and look for bargains. That was back in The 80’s when everyone thought down Downtown LA is crap. I love D-LA then because it left me with such wonderful memories of my mother. So, it’s very cool to watch this video.
Very interesting and intelligent video tour, guys. Thanks!
Thanks David!
A missed exclusive-to-LA foodie opportunity to give a shout out in the footage of Cassell’s across the street from Freehand. Chef David Chang raves the patty melt as the best he’s ever had. And the burger is in the running as one of the best in LA, even as the Shake Shack chain is a few doors down. Also, LOL at the Chevy Volt at 5:57 driving on the wrong side of the street.
Chris, Awesome video!!! WOW!! Excellent. Keep up the great work. Brigham knows his stuff. You might want to use him again in future videos. Maybe do a video Cheap Eats in downtown LA.
Good idea! :)
HI!! to all Angelinos here I Love you guys Woah!! I love Los Angeles.
Great tour guys!
Thanks Nina!
great vid, thanks guys!! I normally drive through LA as fast as I can... I think I need to slow down and look around a bit :-)
DTLA is definitely on an uptrend!
+Yellow Productions Thanks for the update because i'm now aware of the new buildings and venues located in Downtown L.A. (DTLA). I'll keep all of this in mind when i relocate to Los Angeles, CA. :)
Awesome!
@@YellowProductions I have a question. Where can i get the Go Los Angeles card and the Southern California City Pass card so i can use these cards to save money when it comes sight seeing? :)
I forwarded this video to my sister, who works for The L.A. Conservancy. She will love this!
Neat!
You should also visit the Vista Hermosa Natural Park. It is less than a mile away from the Walt Disney Concert Hall. And you will have a very nice view of the Downtown skyline.
Thanks for the tip!
totally great video
Great video Chris!
Thanks m kla!
wonderful, very informative, thank you. new subscriber here. I love LA.
Thanks Vee and welcome to Yellow Productions!
Awesome video! Any other public rooftop recommendations for photography??
Thank you so many videos of places with no talking AT ALL. No idea of what you're looking at or what went on,
Take a walk through south central,
That be a fun episode.
awesome town
Love that hoodie! Gonna get me one of those!
Thanks Evan! I think I got it from Thinkgeek
Love your videos.
Thanks!
Awesome hoodie!!
I think Los Angeles has unique architecture as well!
I was never very interested in exploring LA, but this video has definitely changed my mind! I'll give this vlog:: 🍔🍔🍔🍔🍔
Awesome Joanns! Thanks for the 5 burgers! :)
Downtown was very cool. My brother lived near Southpark in the old Packard building. I spent most of my week visiting LA walking around downtown while my brother went to work. I really enjoyed it. You truly do not need to get in the car at all. There are Ralph’s market, the Whole Foods, that mall with Target, coffee shops, great places to eat. I went to the Grammy museum & loved it. Check out DTLA.
Born in 1948, I grew up in various parts the LA area through the '50s and '60s. I vividly remember as a child wondering at the streetcars and their tracks and overhead electrical lines. I remember marveling at the magnificent art deco, black-and-gold Richfield building, whose destruction seemed shocking to me. In 1966-1967, I commuted by bus between West Covina and UCLA. Since I changed busses downtown, this gave me the opportunity of viewing all those wonderful old buildings at my leisure. Anyway, I thought of them as very old, although at that time they were really still comparatively young. I saw some movies in one of those grand old theaters. I remember rooting for DTLA to become a more vital and alive place, because at the time it was a bit on the shabby side. Although I now live in Washington state, I find it very gratifying to see the old place waking up and to see not only lots of new construction and revitalization but also the refurbishing of some of those great old buildings that were the backdrop for so many gritty films noirs. My youthful dream is finally being realized!
Dig the trek gear !
I live in Santa Monica - between LA and the ocean. It's hard to love DTLA. But this video helps...this helps. It's getting there.
Why not take the Expo line and ditch the car. Save gas and time!
We do Joseph. We don't own a car. Not as the climate crumbles around us. THAT IS NOT THE POINT. Despite the upgrades, we still find DTLA a sketchy affair. I wish it were better...it just isn't. @@joefisher1972
@@cgtravers I am visiting for the first time ever July1 and I have heard parts of DTLA are questionable as far as safety and not just Skid Row. What advice would you give to me? I mainly want to take pictures of the US Bank Tower, Wilshire Grand Tower.
@@joefisher1972 There is no need to feel unsafe in DTLA Joseph. During the day and early evening - you'll be fine. As in any big city...pay attention, be aware. Should you visit Skid Row? NO! Is DTLA unsightly? Yes. Is it decrepit? Yes. Are there better areas than others...yes...around the Music Center, for instance, and around The Broad (pronounced "brode") Museum is much nicer than the area near the Movie Palaces on Broadway. And I would recommend seeing The Public Library, and certainly visit Little Tokyo! and The Last Bookstore. You should see Union Station and have a meal at Philippe - The Original French Dip. And pay a visit to the L.A. Cathedral. I have no religious affiliation whatsoever but the place is an amazement. Beautiful. It's really a shame that DTLA is so blown out. It cries out for gentrification. And in no other instance would I call for gentrification - in no other city - I hate it generally - but DTLA is in dire need of attention. It's coming up slowly. I give it another 10 years. If I were visiting L.A. I would stay in Santa Monica at The Ambrose or in one of the hotels near Sunset and La Cienega. And I would visit Hollywood Forever...another must-see! And The Beijing Pie House in Monterey Park... Check this out: czcams.com/video/3VY5m_M4eak/video.html
@@cgtravers Santa Monica is ok but I found it to be tourist trappy and not much history and no cultural amenities. Plus the beach sucks. I'm into history, cultural amenities, architecture and great food and that's what DTLA has. More construction, the fastest growing area in the region. The public transportation hub of the region. The biggest employment center in the region. Nightlife, great restaurants, growing shopping scene. Downtown is sizzling hot right now and only getting better.
Love LA❤️❤️
Awsome video
Sooo weird seeing how revitalized it's become. I remember sitting on the steps of Hotel Bristol and none of those shops or restaurants surrounding it were there.
I was hooked at 8th and Grand. 🤣
OMG! You're a nerd! A Trek nerd! Just like me!! Very interesting video. I've never been to L.A., & am looking forward to visiting someday.
Yup! Huge nerd right here!
Brigham Yen!! I know these guys
Yay! Chris!!!!😎
I was born( California Hospital ) raised (South Park resident since birth) and still live here ( still in South Park) and I can say...I Love DT more than that guy lol
Either way, glad more and more people are coming to hangout here, I always loved the city and couldn’t replace with any other. I’ve studied abroad and travel and LA is definitely unique. Thanks to my surroundings I’ve become an architect and love history.
Neat! Well I haven't met you.. so Brigham loves it most of anyone I've met! :)
Yellow Productions lol He did a great Job! Love my city!
are you the guy designing all those seven story shit boxes with those ugly primary color accents? or the one putting 8 story parking podiums into taller buildings?
It sounds like he's describing my city. Everywhere surrounding DT you need a car and run across all of these franchise business whereas DT it's walkable and you have all types of restaraunts, art shops, arcades, bars etc that you can't get anywhere else in the city.
Well yes
I live in West Hollywood and yeah downtown LA has improved over the last 20 years but it still feels dead and it pales in comparison to San Francisco or Chicago and of course New York in terms of a downtown area with a lot of energy. Still has a long way to go
Ivan Desantis I actually think the fact that it’s not overcrowded allows for a more pleasurable experience of downtown...you’re not wrong but there’s amazing venues here that are extremely accessible for the reason you mentioned.
@@flutternutter23 You make a good point because one of the things I love about Chicago is it's not congested like NY. But I stand by my point about pockets of downtown that have no energy. Listen good things happen gradually and usually not with the expediency that we hope for
Nice One Most of those cities are by the water and have limited amount of space. NYC HAS to build up.
@@hiphoprbloverjon9180 I'm interested in what you mean by nyc has to build up. I grew up in Brooklyn. Do you mean improve things like subways etc or exactly what
Ivan Desantis Because you live on an island and have limited space vs LA which is a never-ending sprawl that has built out throughout it's history.
That looks fun I want to go 😅
How and 5th and San Pedro? Beautiful. Baby it's cold out side.
Bronze Nazare7h hahahahaha
Very enjoyable tour of DTLA.
Chris: Brigham, tell us a little bit about Broadway.
Brigham breaks into song: ♫ They say the neon lights are bright on Broadway (on Broadway)
They say there's always magic in the air (on Broadway) ♫
Sorry, couldn't resist.
Hah
Please come to Portland!!! I’ll give you a tour and show you all the good spots!!!
I'll let you know if we head up that way :)
@@YellowProductions It really is a wonderful place to visit. Lots of things to do, but you could easily see a little bit of everything in 3-4 days.
Omg it was being filmed in front of my home in the intro
Look at your sweat shirt! It's amazing!
I love it over in South Park my hospital and my park in over there and I and my family hang out at the staple cheater I all ways hang out there I live in Hollywood now but still go there every 2 weeks
YAY!!! Yellow production!!! Topher!!! Columbus!!!! Chris!!?
Would love an update since Covid - which has been challenging for a lot of cities, including Los Angeles
it looks clean......time for me to move back
nice sweater Chris!
Beam me up! :)
This video barely skimmed the surface of what you can do in the new Downtown Los Angeles.... You Like Blade Runner? Than you have to see the Bradbury Building. I'm guessing you could plan a 2-3 night visit in DTLA... and I'm glad Brigham Yen was a guest because there are very few people as passionate about DTLA as he is. Thanks for the video.
Short video.. so yes.. surface skimmed :)
Born and raised in LA. Left in 2000. There use to be an active LGBTQ artist community. I think they were the ones to gentrify DTLA. too bad I didn't stick around for a complete outcome, but I'd like to visit one day!
There's a dope ass dispensary on Los Angeles and 12th Street.
DTLA is such an exciting place. The homelessness situation will hopefully improve soon because it really is a gem.
I hope so too!
@@YellowProductions NOPE. dont expect it soon
I think it will slowly improve in the coming decade as new shelters and service and affordable homes are built. But rather than concentrating a majority of homeless in the Downtown/Skid Row, it will decentralize and disperse the homeless throughout the city and county. This should help Downtown revitalize in the long run but also help with those in Skid Row by getting many people help. There will always be sizable population still that dont want help, dont want shelter and are fine to be outside in a tent in a section of the city that is industrial warehouses. But maybe it can shrink the Skid Row area to a more manageable area like the size of SF tenderloin. rather than the less than 1 square mile that it is now.
Have you ever visited the Angel City brewery there..? Wanting to visit next time we are there.
For sure.. its in this old warehouse.. interesting vibe for sure
A common movie filming locations in LA video would be awesome!
I'll put that on the list of video ideas :)
I'm so excited it'll be my first time in LA .. !! Do you guys recommend me staying downtown and move using metro? I dont know where to stay help me..!!
I like to stay around LA Live in Downtown LA
Ugh, I noticed that Freehand hotel charges a resort fee. Thanks for starting that trend, Vegas!
Resort fee.. agh!
What's that.. Resort fee?
And DTLA is no doubt, another fine example of (long pause) the California Gold...
DreamBytheSea nah that’s San Francisco
What about Skid Row downtown LA?
Dtla on the come up. Our only problem is the homeless, they have to find a solution that helps them and just doesn’t kick them out. Otherwise Arts district, Lil Tokyo, Dtla... probably 4-5 days to explore the area or more, so many restaurants, coffee, bars, shopping, events, and more things to do. But LA is expensive, so don’t think you’re gonna do all that for cheap. Most people in LA don’t have the money to live in dtla lol. Great video.
Thanks barber Johnny! The homeless are still an issue for sure!
So for the Wilshire Grand Hotel, going up to the hotel lobby deck is completely free? Like how does that work being able to go up there? Just take an elevator up the floor and you’re able to see the views even if you aren’t staying at the hotel?
Yup! Walk in the ground floor.. find the lobby elevator and go up
Sure has changed a lot since I lived in L.A. !
ROB'S MOVIE COLLECTION where you at now
@@louietheplumber3609 Been in sunny Orange County for a while now!
ROB'S MOVIE COLLECTION nice been in Bakersfield 9 years it's not as bad as people say I started my own biz doing well , cool on your response
I wish that i could visit Los angles
Home of Movies.
Thanks Dude!.
I love ❤️ Los Angeles 👍🏼
What's your favorite part about LA?
Downtown, Boyle Heights, Hollywood, Echo Park, Universal City, Mid Wilshire, Melrose, Century City, the 405, the 110 the 101 the 10 ALL OF IT!!
I was 4 months ago in Down Town LA and I was sooo bored.
The only funny thing was that I met a male pornstar in a bar who invited me for a glass of Sake 🤣🤣🤣
You’ve done a lot of LA/SD video guides, and while they’re all good I’m surprised you still haven’t done guides for the Inland Empire (I’m a native), Coachella Valley or the High Desert. Not as much to do in LA/SD, but enough landmarks, tourist spots and restaurants to make videos of.
Hi JR.. I just dont spend much time out on that direction :)
My dad worked at joes parking in the 70 s
A tour of Downtown LA for me just isn't complete wthout Little Tokyo
I hope to do a video just focused on Little Tokyo in the future :)
Arizona St University campus in downtown LA. LOL
Hi Chris...WHERE is your video of your Arts District walking tour?? 🤔
Just recently recorded it. Haven't released it yet. Stay tuned in the next few weeks
DTLA is super under rated I love the vibe. however sections of los Angeles st and san Pedro st to be avoided.
This is a very Huell Howsery episode...
I avoid going there. I live at the far edge of LA County and bordering OC. I was certainly educated on how much improved it looks. Still, the big city life isn’t for me. I quite enjoy driving my car to go anywhere and everywhere. I enjoy the many parks where I live and fresh air.
I stayed at the freehand LA hotel for beautycon LA.
How did you like it?
@@YellowProductions yeah. I liked the freehand LA hotel. I just couldn't believe I was right across from the golden gopher bar where they shot Taylor swift music video for delicate.
Freehand is the one where I or tour groups will stay in
