Actually, Dennis Hopper (who co-directed the film with Jack Nicholson) thought it would be hilarious if they ever did a sequel. That way the posters in movie theater lobbies across the country would say . . . "From The People Who Gave You HEAD . . ." across the top. It's still funny.
I was the ideal kid for The Monkees: 7 years old when the show premiered, a little too young for all the British Invasion bands, but The Monkees were MINE! I begged my parents to buy their albums and I listened to the first 3 of 'em constantly. I love this song and the way it's used at the beginning and end of the movie, but HEAD as whole movie, not so much. :-) I can see what they were trying to do, but by this point, I think the band were sick of it all, especially Mike.
I love the Monkees! I grew up at the 70's decade and I watch them in TV reprises few years after the group broken up, and when I watch this film (Head) I was with 10 years old and specially this song stayed in my mind. I didn't understood so much about this film at the time, It was a crazy film to me but after my teenage and when I came up to adult life it's still keep a crazy but lovely film. The Monkees was a happy part of my life, thanks Peter (R.I.P.), Davy (R.I.P.), Mike and Micky... "When we make A Hard Day's Night they said The Beatles was like the Marx Brothers, but to me The Monkees was better than Marx Brothers!" (John Lennon)
I really hope no one tries to copy this... they pretend to jump into the water, a dummy hits the water. When you see the guys hitting water it is into a swimming pool! Totally forgot about this till today, of all days to find it =( Real music and real entertainers!
Okay, so The Monkees might have royally ripped off The Beatles in countless ways, and Carole King actually wrote this song, but it is still a goddamn brilliant song, and one that makes me want to explore their discography to find other gems.
@loom67 It hasn't really hit me yet. His death is a huge loss. I was surprised to see that People magazine did the right thing (for once) and gave David the cover this week.
I remember seeing Head for the first time in the 80's and the whole audience went nuts when Peter jumps in and the tight shot of his face. No wonder when you meet peter now days he's so mean and pissed at the world. He hates me and basically told me off.
@crazygirl8343 I depends on his mood...I've met him numerous times and I've had a lot of bad things and then one nice thing to make up for his bad actions towards me..but all in all...he's been thru one hell of a lot and that is why he is that way today...

Underrated classic.
Naturally, Mike was the first one to regain his composure and lead the group in their swim away. Fitting.
The best song composed for the Monkees by Carole King and Gerry Goffin! Thanks for posting!
This is awesome. Watched the movie, and never understood a single second of it. It was truly the greatest movie ever.
The top of avanti garde stuff. Gimme a break Yoko
Great song, errie but joyous at same time

This movie never gets old.
My all time favorite Monkees Song
God, I love this song
One of the greatest opening sequences to any film ever!
This is not opening sequence
Ok, maybe I should have been more specific Opening / Ending sequences.
Yeah, the sequence is great.
sad news about the passing of Peter Tork, may he rest in some peaceful last moments...
our buddies show us the way..
Bob Rafelson (Five Easy Pieces) directed the film.
Nicholson co-wrote it.
Dennis Hopper smoked it.
How can Peter davy and Mike be gone? Where did the years go
OMG OMG its back i've been looking for this everywhere thank you soo much!
If you know the back story of the Monkees this movie actually makes sense.
I got to see it on the big screen in 2018
Nice video. I remember. Congrates from Brazil 👏👏👏👏
This film was crazy.
Micky was the funniest.
This song is good.
Mad Men brought me here

Lyrics - The Porpoise Song - The Monkees - Head - - - - My, my, the clock in the sky - Is pounding away - And there's so much to say - A face, a voice - An overdub has no choice - An image cannot rejoice - Wanting to be - To hear and to see - Crying to the sky - But the porpoise is laughing - Goodbye, goodbye - Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye - Clicks, clacks, riding the backs of giraffes for laughs - S'alright for a while - sings of castles - And kings and things that go - With a life of style - Wanting to feel - To know what is real - Living is a, is a lie - The porpoise is waiting - Goodbye, goodbye - Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye - Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye - Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye - - - - - Songwriters: Carole King / Gerry Goffin - - - Porpoise Song (Theme From "Head") lyrics © Sony/ATV Music Publishing LLC
hooray for the sixties! Thanks for posting!
Clicks, clacks, riding the backs of giraffes for laughs' all right for awhile...

Please do. There's a lot of great stuff!

Makes me think that director Paul Thomas Anderson watched "Head" and swiped the similar ending music for his "There Will Be Blood" ending!
Psychedelic Classic
Mad Men
Thank you posting this clip. :)
R.I.P.
Davy Jones
Soundtrack vanilla sky
how true that record producers try to run the boy bands lives.
The audience went nuts when Peter landed
RIP Davy.
@spider1974 I knew I saw it somewhere else too. Thanks Spider!
Good trip.
WHAT... IS HAPPENING?!
awesome psychedelic

That would be the only time I would jump off a bridge.
Davy didn't jump.
@suelionmusic Somehow, your not being able to handle your weed doesn't equal a critique.

i hope to meet him someday before he dies...

As good as any Goffin/King song you'll hear. This movie, though, is messed up and painful to watch... though you gotta do it at least once.
decent video. :)
@suelionmusic Can you tell us what you mean? Were you at the recording session?
@phillygirl06 I heard that he's actually really sweet.
Is this when G-major pictures started?
At 0:05micky doesn't have the ribbon
good eye I would have never caught that 😊👍
:p
the song is amazing but the movie was fucked up
Then it succeeded.
It aimed to mirror the time they were living in.
