  • Mikhail Gorbachev, the former Soviet leader who brought the Cold War to a peaceful end, has died aged 91.
Mr Gorbachev, who took power in 1985, opened up the Soviet Union to the world and introduced a set of reforms at home.
But he was unable to prevent the slow collapse of the Soviet Union, from which modern Russia emerged.
Tributes have been paid worldwide, with UN chief António Guterres saying he "changed the course of history". US President Joe Biden called him a "rare leader".
However, many Russians never forgave their former leader for the turmoil that followed the collapse of the USSR.

But what he did he gave away the territories that our ancestors conquered for 1000 years without any compensation, moreover, he robbed his people when Russia took on the debts of other 14 countries. Putin said; what did Gorbachev was good, but his wishes was that Russia to be in good relations and friendly with West and USA and this was bad, for this, he is a traitor. This stance is a satanic stance, because the Gospel says Romans 12:18; If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.

Taking this opportunity, I compare the process of radical opening led by M. Gorbachev with the timid and moderate opening led by N. Khrushchev. That is why, while Khrushchev's opening is historically defined as a de-Stalinization, Gorbachev's would have implied - for me - a kind of "de-Leninization" of the Soviet state, to the point where the U.S.S.R (created by Lenin) ceased to exist.
Unfortunately, the rapprochement between Moscow and Washington that began in the time of Reagan and Gorbachev suffered a gradual setback after the Clinton administration.
