US President Joe Biden's top aide met with Chinese President Xi Jinping today. US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan conveyed that President Biden is looking forward to bilateral talks with Xi. Sullivan is the first US National Security Advisor to visit Beijing since 2016. During the meeting, Xi emphasised Beijing's commitment to maintaining strong ties with Washington. “While significant changes have occurred in both countries and in China-US relations, China’s commitment to a stable, healthy, and sustainable relationship with the US remains unchanged,” Xi stated, according to an official release by China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Xi's remarks come amid China's security rows with US allies Japan and the Philippines. The two leaders are expected to have a telephone conversation before the US Presidential Elections in November.
