- Gisborne and Hawke's Bay residents are without electricity, phone and internet as Cyclone Gabrielle continues to pound the North Island. Transpower has declared a 'grid emergency', warning it might take up to weeks for power to be restored. This drone footage shows the extent of flooding, with parts of SH15 completely cut off between Hastings and Napier.

I'd never thought something like this would happen in NZ. I use to live here, growing up as a child and I have fond memories of Hastings.

I remember getting up one morning to this, we evacuated to my grandparents house and you could see people getting rescued by helicopter, it was devastating.

If by weather manipulation you mean humanity pumping billions of tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere resulting in increased global temperatures and moisture in the air to make events like this more frequent and intense then yes.

That place is hurting. When watching first reports I questioned how the helicopter was just zipping by houses not going slow enough for persons needing rescue to get outside to signal for help.

It's the silk thats still on the houses to today we drove by the bridge that broke and went ove4 it (since its been rebuilt and is fine) the silk was still in the farms a the home a a car was still flipped over
If it wasnt for Grace and Mercy a lot more people, animals, trees would of perished. Well and truly protected from what was sent to wipe 'us' out and the community spirit is still alive and well in the beautiful Hawkes' Bay❤

$35 million (for starters) was allocated to the cyclone relief fund. It is possible to fund two separate events. The ski fields of Ruapehu are crucial to the economy of Taupō, Ohakune and other towns in the vicinity. $5 million is a pittance in the grand scheme of things. When people lose jobs the government has to pay for welfare, there’s reduced tax take, less investment and crime goes up.
