- Florida Pools - How We Built Ours With EASE in 2022
My wife and I decided to build our pool in 2022. We interviewed 4 Florida pool builders before making our selection. They built our pool with ease in 2022 despite the supply chain issues. To say we are thrilled is an understatement...

The pool and decking took 4+ months in a time when supply chain issues were at the peak. Total cost was $49k. (Artificial Turf is separate - please see my video on that project). Yes, now 6 months later, we are thrilled with our decision with Pugh Pools, and going through the pool-building process. Our friends say we have a "Pinterest" backyard! We take that as a compliment! 😁
Wow are you serious just 49k that’s amazing I contacted other companies they are at 75 to 89
@@CarolCityCane305 I will say Pugh Pools did a wonderful job. Price was good. Service was great. Staff was quality. It's hard to compare apples to apples with pool size, materials, labor, decking etc... The devil is in those details. But hope this was useful for you...
49k? what is the pool lenght and how deep is it? it looks like a good pool
@@nocturnalmayhem0 it's 14' x 22' x 6' - yes, it's a great pool!
This is a very basic pool so the costs are quite low. For example there is no mention of automation, there’s no spa, no auto fill, no bubblers, no overflows, or other bells and whistles that jack the price of a pool up significantly. You don’t have to have all of those pieces to enjoy your pool. They are definitely nice to haves, but not a necessity to enjoy your pool.
I absolutely loved the video! It was very informative, and detailed. Great job!
Thanks Mark. It was a blast making this one. It took 5 months to film, edit and share... and worth every days work. With so many folks thinking about building a pool, I hope it helps them SEE the process. Cheers!
Nice job. Looks fantastic.
I'm in Naples, FL and got several pool quotes ranging from $85k to $$130k. You got a great price. Thanks for sharing your pool build experience. 😀
Hey Gregory - curious to know the size of your pool. As I mentioned mine is a smaller 14 X 22'. Then again, you'll also at the tail end of this inflation stuff. Mine was signed and done just as inflation began ripping higher...
It was 14 x 28 with jacuzzi and screen cage.
@@gregorydepol2655 Whoa, ok. Hm. that's quite a bit more. I'd say inflation has some to do with that. Screen cage should be $5k?? Anyway to line item the costs? Or are all bids apples to apples?
@@johnmwielandwe are located in Punta Gorda and we have gotten several different quotes but all of them right around $25k mark for a new 46x26 pool cage.
We are in Punta Gorda and just signed to build our pool. 29x12 with a waterfall spa and 1,200 sq ft paver deck. $90k not including the cage.
Great informative video!!! Great job!
Glad you liked it! It was fun putting this together... and more fun enjoying it with family n friends! 👊🙌🏻🏄♂
great job! 😁👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 super cool.
Thanks Edgar! ✌👌
I'm building a 8' x 37' saltwater lap pool that is 4' deep with concrete blocks. I have all the materials. With me doing the labor the total cost of materials is $3,380. 4 jets, 4 LED lights, skimmer, 2 floor drains, 3/4 hp pump, fabric filter, 4,000' of rebar, and a stainless ladder. 2' x 2' tile inside with a 6" strip of glass tiles around the top. Next week I'll start tiling.
That's awesome @thaipassportbro - wish I had skill DIY my pool. Send pix of your progress and when it's done! Good luck!
That includes the concrete and steel?
@@simoneliderschlegel533 Includes everything. Cheap materials in Thailand. I will show a price list when done.
@@simoneliderschlegel533 Yep. Everything.
Congrats! Where did you get that outdoor shower? Looks like a modular unit that connects to the hose.
Oh man, Shawn, that is a $100 put-together from HD. It was a placeholder and has since been replaced. But we use it all the time!
Great looking pool. Thank you for posting the process. What are the dimensions of the pool?
Our pool is 14X22 - nothing huge, but perfect for the size of our yard. 👌👊
I see lots of pools in Florida with screen enclosures around then to keep snakes, frogs, and gators out of pools. Is this not needed where you are?
I think it's a personal preference. You forgot to mention mosquitos! If you live near a canal or lake, it will be "buggier" and more crawling creatures. I'm not near canals or still-water ponds etc... Thanks for your great comment - folks ask about screens all the time. Cheers!
@@johnmwielandpool cages also help keep the temperature of the water slightly cooler and definitely helps with the insects.
Nice pool! SO was this Marquis or Stonescape? color and anything added like beads etc.? We live in central florida and have a contractor but we are being asked to to reach out to people when we love their pools to get ideas. Thank you!
@jessicacalvano8949 - thx for asking! We used Diamond Brite - light green as we're planting exotic plants all around it and green has that softer look n feel. My wife had to have Mother of Pearl tiles - that's all around the edge and as stair step areas. We love it. It came out soft looking and blends with our landscaping too. Hope this helps! Good luck!
@@johnmwieland AMAZING! thank you again!
So,how long was the process from the plan? I need a pool in Hollywood Fl. 14x28 size.Thank you!
Hi Joe! Well, we signed our contact November 2021 and we were swimming in our new pool July 15th. And that was during the supply chain issues days. Should be (much) less than 6 months today...
@@johnmwieland Wow! That's long time!
Astro turf the way to go. Never again will I deal with grass and the cost at least in back yard. I have dog tho
Yes! And the weeds! No more. Just clean, green cushy grass. No odd smells. Remember to add your silica or Envirofill (we love this one) - give your turf the "food" it needs in a sustainable way..
I live very close. we are planning to buy a house but want to ensure we could get a pool permit before purchase. Is this possible?
Hi Ross. If I understand you question right that you'd like to get a pool permit BEFORE you purchase - that'd be up to the seller if they want to go down that path. As permits can take 4-8 weeks, it could be a contingency as part of the purchase. Again, it's all a negotiation. Or, we due solid diligence based on the property survey to see if a property has space and setbacks available for a pool. Let me know is there's anything I may do to assist you in your house hunting process. Glad to help! My cell is 561-777-4089. Thank you...
Did you use a seal on the deck? Does Pugh recommend a seal?
This is travertine so we used the seal specific for this stone. I'd call Pugh for their recommendations as I don't want to say give out wrong info.
You do know that there is still chlorine in your pool, right? That salt water will eat at the travertine. Most of the savings of the salt system will be eaten away by all the muriatic acid it takes to lower the ph. The process of splitting the salt(NaCl) into free chlorine creates a base compound that raises the ph.
Could you possibly turn that stupid music DOWN!
You should have spent some money on a sound technician to do your video.
@mppetrikas4919 - or just turn it down/off. That was me playing that riff! 🎸
We are doing a
Vinyl in ground
Keep us posted: price, time frame, satisfaction rating... 👌
49k seems like a great price can I ask if your pool is heated and if not did you inquire about the cost of that?
Hi There BSC! I did not get a heated pool. Living in Delray Beach it's really not needed. I was only cold for 45 days in Jan/Feb so I didn't see the need. I recall it would've added another $4500 on the top end. Hope that helps and thanks for stopping by...
@johnmwieland that's great to hear. We live about 3hrs north of you in Ormond Beach so it gets a little colder up here. We're gonna give Pugh pools a call on Monday. Not sure if they service this area but won't hurt to ask. Thanks for quick reply have a good weekend.
@@lewisb02 Ask for Alexis when. you call Pugh. She's the owners' daughter. Not sure they service that far north, but worth the call. Thanks BSC! I'm glad this was of value to you. Happy weekend to you, too!
Sir, I've been the paver business for 10 years that concrete border around the edge of the pool looks like awful the correct way is doing a 6 to 8 inch border underneath on the inside of the tile, sometimes installers charge more but like saying goes devil is in the details
Thank you for your input, I'll keep this front of mind. 👊
$49K is a deal, especially with all the travertine. Nice pool!
Thanks! Funny how to look back and see it was a deal. Most folks procrastinate waiting for a better deal... and prices go up. We love our pool! 👌
@@johnmwieland Just bought a place in Black Diamond Ranch, Lecanto FL. Looking for a pool installer, and will call Pugh for a quote. Thanks!
@@darknes7800 Congratulations! If you let them (Alexis) know you were referred by me, you might get a little something something...
That's not a bad price, in California you would be around 60K for that same build.
Yeah Tony. I guess it depends on teh exact size of the decking and travertine material etc. $2500 here, $3000 there - all adds up. If I had done this in 2020 it would have been about $38k! Inflation and supply chain issues in '21/'22 was a stinger.
What was the cost??
Tina - Grand total for pool and decking - $49k. Not bad in an era of supply chain issues! 👊
how much was the swimming pool and what are the dimensions?
$49k for the pool and decking. 14'X22' - decking is travertine. 🤙
Wow, that's a great price! My son's are still young so we will get something a little bigger. Great video!
@@BlackBirdieGolf Thanks! Did you enjoy The Masters this weekend? Looks like you're in golf heaven where you live - may need to take trip up there... ⛳
@@johnmwieland I watched a little but once Koepka lost 2 strokes, it was over. I was routing for him to win. Rahm was mentally stronger. I'm in Virginia but looking to relocate to Sarasota in 3 years. 💚⛳✌🏾

How big is that?
14' x 22'. Perfect size for our smaller backyard 👊

Your music is wayyy toooo loud
👌Turn it up! You should hear it now that my backyard is finished!
Well you didn't build it you paid someone to 🤔
Of course. We had a general contractor / pool builder built it. 👌
😒😖 could not enjoy the video. You were talking so low and the music was Extremely Loud 🙄
Sorry @hevinamber - I just watched again and the music is low when I'm talking. I'll note this for future videos...
