POOR GEORGE! On this week’s episode, Zoe and Hannah are recapping the 2024 Belgian GP. They chat about George’s win (and then disqualification), Lewis’ disappointment, Red Bull’s performance, what’s going to happen to Checo, and McLaren’s weekend. They also chat about the principals leaving F1 teams, Esteban to Haas, and SO much more. This episode is chaotic, so buckle up!

So, just a few things about the car weight: Car's are weighed after the fuel is drained, so fuel has no impact on the weight in this case. What is interesting, is that Mercedes left exactly 1.5kg fuel in, as if they knew the car was underweight by that much. Not saying this was intentional, but just a weird coincidence. Also, I doubt the tyre deg is the only reason he was that much underweight - Tsunoda, Alonso, Stroll and Magnussen all did a 1 stop strategy and their cars were not underweight. 1.5kg is not little when it comes to F1 - it can be up to 2-3s per race that he gained by having the car weigh that much less. So, it definitely did impact the results, as most likely - he would have gotten P3 in the best case scenario with the correctly weighed car. It also makes sense as to why Lewis couldn't pass him on much newer tyres in the last 2 laps. Just sucks that Mercedes basically ruined this for absolutely everyone - George with the DQ, Lewis with not being able to celebrate the deserved win properly and us not getting the 441681 podium we deserve. Another note, Lewis left the track super early, Kym Illman confirmed that Merc did not hold a Victory photo celebration and even if they did - Lewis wouldn't have attended (which I get, considering he felt undercut by his own team). I don't remember the last time we've seen Lewis this pissed and even in that, he was still gracious.
Another note, very interesting Merc decided to go along with this strategy, considering their track record throughout the years - Lewis multiple times asked throughout the years for a different strategy to what was agreed upon before the races (2015, 2019...), because he wanted to fight, but he was denied. He deserved the win this weekend - better practices, qualifying and overall race performance.
Anyone remember Cota 2023? Both Lewis and Charles were DQ-ed because their plank was like 0.1mm under the allowed minimum or something like that - it sucked, but those are the rules and they are here for a reason. And I don't remember anyone throwing a fit about it - in fact, fans were making so many jokes (Lewis Plankmilton and Charles Leplank) and we just moved on with our lives. If the car is illegal - he did not win, and since the car was illegal, George was DQ-ed.
Excited for the summer break though!

Only thing I'd disagree with is the tire deg part. Tsunoda, Alonso, Stroll and Magnussen all ran 1-stop races; *none* of them did it at the front of the pack fighting off a charging Lewis Hamilton. F1 tires are expected to weigh about 40-45kg for all 4 after a race; the Pirelli F1 head has previously said that *each* tire loses about 1kg over a standard stint. We can't assume that tire deg is linear, so let's say doubling the stint gives you 1.5 kg loss each instead of 1. If you planned to be right at the limit come race end, you've now gone 2kg underweight. That combined with the fact that George absolutely had to be pushing harder than the midfield means it could entirely be down to tire deg.

@@MANxMACHINE That's why i said i don't think tyre deg is the only reason (not that it has nothing to do with it). Alex Brundle did a really nice and objective analysis on the possibilities and i feel like we won't get a deeper or more precise answer, so all we can do is speculate on the exact reasonings.

I think the writing is on the wall for Chenko at this point - all that remains is the official confirmation.
You girls should definitely watch all the Deadpools - they get better with each subsequent film. I went to see Deadpool & Wolverine on Friday night there and it was a blast. Never heard an audience laugh so much at a Marvel film before. 😂😂

Checo's contract should be shredded. Let him find another team while he still can. Danny Ricc should get the Red Bull seat for the rest of year. Sink or swim. If he sucks, they can end his drama as well. Lawson can finally take a seat at VCARB. This is the way.

I stopped following F1 after the start of the season looked like a repeat of 2023, but Silverstone brought me back. I actually had to do a bit of digging to remember the name of this channel since I hadn't been subscribed before then. Thank you for all the great coverage of the races! Hopefully the next one doesn't have so much going on after the checkered flag. Also, does this channel have any social media pages?

They didnt even tell Lewis that george was going on a 1 stop until it was too late. George said they dont favour any drive in an interview they kinda do. Cuz there been times where Lewis changes the strat and they go to george and be like hey lewis is doing this what you think of doing it? but that never happened with Lewis. In the end doing a 1 stop hurt them. I dont think this will get to a Rosberg level its more Lewis is mad at the Team. Lewis shouldve won in the end Merc just went rogue on strats. Hope both bounce back after the break.
