As sweet as that 355 sounded, that Tele had that snarl that I love. Terrific demo, please keep these episodes coming!
That hair is looking more awesome every time I see it! Great playing and tones.
John you sound marvelous. Great playing.
I have a Bandmaster head and piggyback cab. The transformers are dated the 44th and 46th weeks of '64. I do kind of wish it had reverb, but like having the bragging rights to say its pre-CBS. Only got one of the Jensen speakers with it, and the cone is turning to dust. It came loaded with RSC speakers. They were too bassy, so I put in an 80 watt and a 100 watt Celestion speakers. It's my pride and joy.
Well done John! Lovely tones and amp! Would enjoy hearing that special black Tele just waiting to jam! Thanks for sharing brother, Be Well All!
stay safe amigo.
I have a 1964 Concert 4x10 as well and it's the best tone I've ever had!
surprised you're not ganging the two inputs together. I've been doing that and blending the normal with the bright side is awesome!
I hear tube pops sometimes as well!
The two chanel blend is cool.
Man that coif is getting HIGH!! Eraserhead Bohlinger some may say!!
what a great amp and that vibrato! thanks for all the content to keep us occupied during this time!
Way cool! The Tele sounds really good.
Whoa! Killer sounds as always from John!
I had the brown tolex 64 concert amp..sold it years ago..👍.
The 4x10 speaker set up is one of the best IMO. I have one with two alnico and two ceramic speakers and it sounds amazing! If I had that 335 that would be cool too!
A Les Paul w/ humbuckers through that Concert would have been a good choice. Incredible power & clean tone to boot. .I had a '68 Super w/ a LP Custom. for years. Headed back there now.
This channel deserves more subscribers.
I have a 66 BF SR with 4xJBL D110Fs....I love that amp.Have it in the studio....
Blackface Fender circuits, all of them, are incredibly pleasing sounding. Awesome video showcasing this particular one! Thank you.
John is the best!
Saw this because I just picked up a 59 Concert brownface. After a cap job and the replacement of some resistors, it is a beautiful sounding amp. You are right about it staying clean for a long time. Mine starts to break up at about 6.5. It does get dirty after that, but it is loud. It does take effects well as you have shown. Thanks for a great show of an excellent fender.
That amp sounds like a keeper
Thank you for sharing. I own a 66 Bassman that I played with professionally with back in the early 80's and was able to pass it on to my son when he started playing. Yes there is something special about those old Blackface Fenders.
I had one of these at a very young age. Didn't really know what l had and fried it out, and let it go. Damn it.
Sounds great
Hi John... you mention that the Concert sounds different than the Super Reverb... that’s because of two differences between the amps. First, in all blackface reverb amps the recovery tube (listed as a 7025, which is basically a 12AX7) only uses 1/2 of the tube (remember, a 7025/12AX7 is two, two, two tubes in one) Fender, not wishing to waste a tube in their design used the extra 1/2 tube in the gain stage of the Vibrato channel. A second difference is due to the Super Reverb amp uses a GZ34 rectifier tube, while the Concert uses a solid state rectifier.
Very well said!
@@michaelparson-mcnamara782 not sure about the brownface, but the blackface version is SS
@@michaelparson-mcnamara782 Yes, they did. Not only are you contradicting me (you are free to do so) but you are also contradicting Fender, all of whose schematics for Concert amps show solid-state rectification from 1959 onward.
Brownface Concerts are solid state rectifier
@@TucsonBillD Oops. Obviously I've forgotten. I sold my 1960 Concert and 1959 Bassman in 1974 and still miss them both.........
JB, pull the tubes in that Concert one at a time and brush down the pins with some WD-40. Shoot the WD-40 into a small jar (or unused shotglass ☺️) first, then dip a small clean paintbrush into it. Just apply a little per pin. Then put the tube back in, pull it out again, then back in to stay. The popper is probably a preamp tube but clean ‘em all anyway. Not guaranteed to fix the issue, but it’s worked for me a few times and is a good & easy place to start.
Thanks David. I will give it a try.
Damn, that one's a keeper.
The Concert and Bandmaster are nearly identical circuit wise. If you can find either for a song, pick it up!
I played thru a brown one many years ago and it was exceptional and I should have bought it..Got a 66 black face super very similiar amp.
killer sound John thanks!
Lovely piece at the start John very nice playing
What a sound.super !👍
John do a review of the old "Lab" amps....one of the best amps nobody talks about. Also, our hair matches.
Great intro music - I dig it!
It's been many years, but my 1960 Concert is my all time favorite amp. I had a 1959 Bassman, too, but I really preferred the Concert. They were $100 each, used, which is kind of astonishing. I guess that's not weird if I started gigging in '63..........
You got a b bender guitar, sounds so good!
I think the non-reverb blackface amps just sound better, although I don’t know why.
loving this!!!
Do you mind calling out what the pedals used were? I have an 80's Concert, different animal entirely, ha ha
I don't have a blackface Concert, but I do have a brown one. It's awesome sounding with it's harmonic tremolo and presence control. Big loud huge sound. Can go from clean to full on screaming almost like tweed or plexi Marshall. I also have a pre CBS blackface Tremolux, it's a great amp as well, it can get surprisingly dirty for a Blackface when cranked with a Les Paul, possibly because it's a mid power design about 30 watts, not as loud or clean as the big 40-50w blackfaces. With a Strat it stays pretty clean though.
Must be loud if John's wearing ear protection!
I fast forwarded right to that maple neck strat, don’t know why even bothered plug-in in that Gibson? Tele sounded wack too but that strat omg!
John you kinda look like Wolfman Jack ,
stay safe , stay healthy , God Bless.
John wears the 'combed with a wet towel' look well.
A foam carpet cleaner and a soft brush would work wonders on that Pro-Amp. I just cleaned most of my vintage Fender grill cloths.
Just stumbled upon this listing when checking out Charlies' inventory. :))

Hi John great gear, great playing, very nice demo. Just thought I’d post a comment to show my appreciation and say “hi”. I hope you’re doing fine!
John, ISO Lab leads me to think of some studio quality situation to evaluate in.
I just want to go on record saying that the 1955 Stratocaster refinished in the mid 60‘s with a nice „target burst“ is one of the coolest Strats vintage Strats ever. I am both a huge fan of early 54/55 Strats and also 1964-1966 Strats with those nice vibrant target burst 3 tone sunbursts! Love it!
thanks. It's a really fun guitar to play. I gig with it all the time..
John, that ES-355 looks like it cost more than my 1st wife (!)
haha WIFE BAD
I misread the title. I thought it said iso cab
i have a 68 Silverface Super Reverb but the original caps were from 67 still running strong! blackface circuit. believe early in the transition years aluminum drip edge. can you give some history on these amps.
Great video, please keep em coming, John! So is this a super reverb without the reverb?
My man! I notice a BF Pro underneath there, sleeper killer
Just picked up a 61 Brownface Concert. Killer. John, what are you using for dirt/drive pedals on this? Sounds great.
What did you use to record this? Seriously, it sounds natural.
I'm locked in my house during quaratine, so I did the whole thing with my cheap iphone. thanks for watching
You wearing ear pro? Looks like it, how loud is that thing?
Loud.
Great Sound and Playing!. Which overdrive did you use with this amp?
The intro could be 'love hurts' by Nazareth
That Cockatoo hairdo cracks me up, it's like a 2020 version of 80s poofy-puffy hair metal.
toilet seat chilling in the hall, we all have that one DIY job...
I think you're looking at my Roomba.
Still a sleeper -- I have a 61-62 brownface and it's 90% as good as my Tweed Bassman and less than 1/4th the price.
That guy had long wavy hair not to long ago, now he look like Gandalf the grey of guitar. Nice playing. You shall not pass!
More slide . . .
use fractal FX III you sound like anything and its up to your playing ,its in the fingers its not the guitar or amps ,EVH sounds like EVH on anything Gary Moore sounds the same on anything so did SRV or Malmsteen ,so basically this is for collectors and in their mind to be satisfied with nostalgia, but other wise nah its in you head lol
blank pallet2 noppers it isn’t.
Whats the start song???????? 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔😳😳😳😳😳😳
you play in A because it's A fender stratocaster....
uh... 06:12 - 66 years old. Whatcha been smoking'? 'Cause that must be close to when you were born ('59 for me and I'm not that gray) and I'm just 60 lol.
They sound great but they made a lot of blackface amps. So many out there. Plenty to go around.
Bring a blackface fender to a great amp tech, have them go through it, amp will be hassle free for years and years and years.
Your hands are so disconnected ! It’s like they belong to two different people. No coordination between them.
