    BU pros and cons:
    Being in a city:
    - Pros:
    1. Smaller city than Boston and it is easier to feel like home
    2. Campus is cohesive
    3. A lot of things to do
    4. Harvard and MIT very close by
    5. Many opportunities for internship and jobs
    - Cons:
    1. Construction - very noisy
    2. Not traditional sport bond spirit campus - more of small knit communities where everyone do their own thing
    3. Weather - very cold, rainy, and snowy
    4. Safety - not a close campus, so follow general safety rules
    BU community:
    -Pros:
    1. Everyone is very friendly
    2. Student population is very diverse
    3. No typical BU student - you can do whatever you want
    4. BU studetns are activitsts - protective of the minorities
    -Cons:
    1. Huge school - ~16,000 undergraduate (cannot know everyone)
    2. Disparity between the faculties and higher up BU admins (community is great but BU admins are not that great)
    Academic and professors:
    -Pros:
    1. Professors are very knowledge in their fields (some are still working in their industry so very recent knowledges)
    2. Professors are very supportitve
    3. BU are flexible with you taking courses outside of your major
    -Cons:
    1. career centered (can be a pro depends on how you look at it)
    2. General education requirement (new so kind of troll right now)
    3. grade deflation
    4. BU faculties not as diverse
    On Campus Living:
    -Pros
    1. Guarenteed for all 4 years
    2. Wide variety of dorms to pick from
    3. T train to get around the city with
    4. Dinning hall is very good
    5. Always a lot of events
    6. Tons of green places to relax in
    -Cons:
    1. Tuition - very expensive
    - don't give out a lot of merit scholarships
    Thanks for the information Mira!

    Class of 1994 here. 👵
Your assessments are pretty much spot on. You might be blindsided your senior year by some cutthroat classmates, because they are lurking beneath the surface, but they have a tendency to get weeded out quickly. After graduation, your fellow alumni will drop things into your lap as long as you are willing to work hard. If you choose to stay in the Boston area, you can make a lot of money, but be aware that there is a rivalry with the other schools and Big H usually wins at the workplace.

Hey Daniel!! Omg Congratulations! :))) I am currently applying for schools to transfer to next year. I live in California, but I’m planning to apply to a couple out of state colleges. I was wondering if you had an advice as a transfer regarding financial costs and submission. I really love BU. But I’m worried about the costs.

    • @danielsmith9779
      @danielsmith9779 Před 2 lety +1

@@kayleepalmares6518 Finances was definitely a big concern when applying. I am from Washington and I ended up committing to University of Wa. The in-state tuition was very appealing as I don’t get any money from Fafsa.
In regards to submission I assume you mean application fees. I applied to 10 Schools for transfer (2 were free of cost to apply). I had money saved up to submit my applications so I didn’t have to worry about it too much. I did stagger out when I submitted to try and ease that financial burden however.

I transferred to BU from FSU, but this was millions of years ago. Like you, I did start out as a biochemistry major, but changed to mass communication because of some vision problems. BU is a much more positive campus and the faculty encourages you to find your strengths, whereas other schools try to weed out students by graduation and everything is a process of elimination. At FSU, you had to rush and nothing else was available if you weren't Greek. Everything was centered on football. If you like sports, BU hockey is a powerhouse team, but there is so much more to do. Good luck 🍀

I personally think that BU does not give out as much money as they could, but if you think you qualify for a strong grant, I would encourage you to reach out to BU's financial aid office for more info on predicting your financial aid package should you choose to apply early decision. best of luck to you!!

Hi, do you have any insight on CGS? I really like BU but have heard that it can be difficult to get the classes you want in CGS before going into your intended major.

    • @isabelleward3374
      @isabelleward3374 Před 3 lety

Hi! I'm actually a freshman at BU in CGS with an intended major of Biomedical Engineering. When I was accepted last year into CGS I was somewhat unsure about how I would like BU. but I loved the school so I enrolled. Now I can tell you I absolutely love it. Its honestly not hard to fit in all your majors' classes with CGS classes (with the exception of Engineering sometimes) because 1. there are only about 8/9 required CGS classes you have to take and if you have AP credit you can be exempt from those so it's not that hard to do those CGS classes and do major classes at the same time. With engineering though, it can be tough because engineering as a whole is very course-heavy, unlike most other majors. Even the kids not in CGS have a hefty load of classes and will get overwhelmed. But that's why it's important to take 1-2 classes during the gap semester so you can come into BU with credits to try and decrease the number of classes you will have to take. The second reason why I love CGS is that the classes are very small compared to other colleges' classes. For CGS, my lectures are about 85 kids, and my discussions about 30. Whereas in COM or CAS you might have 150-200 kids in lecture and 50+ in discussion which can make it harder to ask questions, get to know your profs and fellow classmates. In this semester alone I've made SO many connections with my classmates and profs and I'm really glad that I'm in CGS now. I don't think I would have liked being in the other colleges because of how large they are. CGS is like a smaller school within a very large university. So you get the large uni type feel but with smaller classes and more one on one conversation and learning, which is really great. Also, if you are a STEM major, CGS is great because it is more liberal arts-based so you fulfill most of your liberal arts general education requirements like writing, oral speaking, history, English, etc with CGS. So then after CGS, the only general education requirements you will need to fulfill are stuff like critical thinking, problem-solving, etc which are fulfilled with the STEM courses you would take for your major.
Overall I would def recommend CGS and BU as a whole. Its been really great for me so far and I'm really glad I came to BU. LMK if you have any other questions :)

I can answer from my experience. Out of all the colleges I got into, this was actually the second best one based only on financial aid. The other school which I didn’t want to go to anyway was only around 2,000 cheaper after financial aid. My parents make around 75-80ish thousand a year and family contribution after financial aid is a few thousand under 20,000 a year (to give u an idea without being too specific). Comparing this to all the other schools I got into, where it that contribution is well over 20,000, it’s definitely a good price. It’s still expensive but less so than many other schools. If only I could get a few more scholarships…

    • @photocannon4462

oh to add on, BU meets 100% demonstrated financial need, and supposedly if cost goes up bc of inflation, ur financial aid is supposed to automatically go up to offset that difference or something.
