In my experience 200hp is all you need to enjoy the british countryside. Realistically anymore than that and you spending more time on the brakes than the accelerator.
id say 250-300 is perfect on a B road

I just got my front wheels slightly toed out for more grip, with my new suspension setup the handling is sublime. Hopefully on the track with my mapped PD150 in the next few weeks.

I just sold my wife’s 2.0 TDI golf 2007. Even during COVID it was sold to an Irish lad here in Sydney australia who was a mechanic and said best motors and I have to admit it had great torque and with dsg was quite nippy stock. I own 2019 wrx sti which is much faster but the torque is good in the gold TDI

I've recently got a Mk4 Golf GTD PD150, if that one has the same map as mine it should be about 200bhp (170 at the wheel) and 320ft pounds of torque. I will say I've never had another car that has the edge took off it as much with a passenger as this car. You need to dump the clutch with the traction off at 2000rpm just as the turbo spools and shift as close to 4000rpm as possible for max acceleration. Revving out to the limiter will lose time.
When he gets the turbo done I'd come in for the next video with mine for a before and after comparison side by side. Mines even the same color and also cost me about a grand with a years MOT. Only 189000 on my clock.
I've just fitted Brembo brakes all around, doing the suspension next, then looking to do my first trackday. Got some Bridgestone Potenza's to go on the front. I can match a stock MK4 R32 off the line so pretty quick. Doesn't do 70mpg, 55 is tops, average 45.
Maybe Beans needs to clean his K & N or stick some injector cleaner in. This is the first car I've owned where a K & N filter panel actually makes a difference.

Good cars, fast for what they are, can be made a lot quicker aswell, but it isnt no rocketship.
The golf actually weighs around 1200kg and the BMW 1300kg. Considering the BMW just blew the golf out of the water I'd say its running more power than the owner thinks. Super fun video though, two great cars for their intended purposes 👌🏻

My pd 150 is quickish, took it on the ring, beat an m5, maybe its the driver.. inwas running 189bhp.... torque is great for instant power.. brakes are not amazing... but i lost front centre caps by driving it so hard on the ring. Its my reliable runaround that now has light weight wheels, body styling and lowered sports suspension and returns a good mpg. Great ride which im keeping for good. My other car is much faster, but on fuel thats costs £££££ (audi s2 turbo)

This guy reminds me of a guy I knew years ago who thought his remapped 306 HDI could ‘beat most cars up to 100’ and he said it would destroy my EP3 I owned at the time, however when my bone stock EP3 destroyed his 306 it was every excuse under the sun… ‘I was in the wrong gear’ ‘I missed 3rd’ or ‘I must have a boost leak’. The problem with diesels is they FEEL faster than they actually are. Great vid 👍🏻
