Almost 9000ft of vert in that kind of terrain is seriously super human, I can’t believe you didn’t throw in the towel. Also, I agree about solo adventures. When I think about all the times I’ve had close calls or bad situations in the wilderness it’s always been with other people.

Nice to see you always in such a good mood despite of any diffilculties! Keep on good nature watching like Jacques Cousteau of the mountains and forests.

I was happy to see that you got Rocko to wear the goggles in the snow. It was funny how Rocko decided she wanted a rest and climbed up on your backpack. Even though you are doing risky stuff, you know your limits and will turn around if it is to dangerous.
That was so beautiful it almost didn't look real. I can't even imagine what an experience that must have been! & Rocco in those goggles.. She's a trip! What a perfect life for a Jack Russel.
I've done a ton in the backcountry, I 100% agree going alone is safer than going with someone who doesn't really know what they are doing. The times I've gone with inexperienced people were way too stressful for me. That said, make sure you know your skill level and know your limits. A satellite messenger is also a must if you go alone.
It’s great you’re doing this now while you’re still a young man. I’m too old now to do that kind of hiking and climbing worked my whole life away. Thought I’d be able to do it when I retired but the body doesn’t do what your mind wants it to do.
Excellent point about matching skill with a partner. I’ve had rare occasions that I was the more experienced one and that was dangerous for a partner. But several times that a partner was more hardcore and experienced, pushing me beyond my comfort zone and safety level. I’d prefer to be alone for the most part. I know my pace and my limitations. Cheers bud 🍻
That really is good advice! I remember one time having a hiking partner with me, and she started turning gray on the way back, meaning her face was getting gray. The hike was in the southern Sierra out to Jordan Hot Springs, which is a 5 mile out and then 5 mile back trip. It's mostly downhill on the way out, you soak in the hot springs, and then you have to hike uphill out. That's what got her. I almost never hike with anyone else either. I don't know anyone that I would trust to have the endurance that I do.
There's only so much a partner can do for you out in the wild, unless you're both trained first responders carrying specialized tools on top of your regular equipment. You're both in the same boat. Alone or in a group, the real safety in my opinion resides in having a way to be located and ask for help at any time. Plus people knowing where you are or at least where you're expected to be and when you should report back.
