no doubt. This will go to my "get on sale" category
Remember when developers would release ACTUAL demos of their game, that included at least a couple of levels from the game that would actually tell you if you wanted to buy it or not? Now, you have to pay them to beta test their games for them, and they still release broken games.
@@ashleejones586 And you know the demo you got from the gaming magazine was the same thing the people writing the preview in said magazine experienced. So you could see if they were being honest or just bullshitting you
The game seems quite pretty, I love a colourful game but the combat weirdly seems a bit...weightless, floaty or something... It feels like you are slicing at the air in front of the enemy, and not actually hitting them. By contrast KCD 2 seems to hit harder, and have more weight in it's 1st person combat, it feels a lot less floaty. Avowed does seem a lot more in the Skyrim style...but something about it already feels little...outdated maybe? I hope the story and game are so good, that it doesn't matter in the end, but I'm hesitant.
Před 15 dny+2
yeah, thats because KCD actually simulates contact and physics of objects. Your hit does actually hit the opponent, you can even see where and how you strike. In this, you just do your animation, it plays out, it deals damage, enemy loses hitpoints and shows blood spatter animation in the air - and thats it. Number 1 rule of any meele combat for any dev is: HIT REACTION IS THE KEY. You can have best combat mechanics, but unless players get proper visual and audio feedback for getting hit on enemy, it will feel bland, hollow, worthless. On contrary, you can have really basic light, heavy, block mechanics, but if enemies can be knocked to ground, sent flying by uppercuts, staggered by shield bash, parried and riposted, it will feel great!
For a game that was in development for such a long time I was really hoping that obsidian would take this game to the next level, and while it does seem to be good like the outer worlds i feel that its a bit unambitious and small compared to POE 2 and even KCD 2 which is its main competition.
@@user-rk2xi7iw9k Obsidian have always made amazing RPGs, but I’ve never felt like they were particularly innovative in the gameplay itself. KOTOR 2, NWN 2 and New Vegas were built on top of BioWare/Bethesda tech, Alpha Protocol was very janky, and POE/Tyranny felt not much different than playing Baldur’s Gate 2 back in 2000. 10 seconds into the video and omg the UI is utter garbage. 30% of the screen is taken up by that junior web designer doodoo. Also, 30fps in 2024... Need I say more.
Not worried about performance particularly because that’ll change up to (and after) release. Also, playing on PC. I am also worried about the combat though, and I really want to want to get it, as I loved the earlier games, and the world they created.
Incredibly excited! Been wanting another 1st/3rd person fantasy RPG and who better to make one than Obsidian. The team that made New Vegas may no longer be there, but Obsidian knows how to keep that DNA going. Their dialogue is unmatched!
The game director for Avowed was on Dropped Frames and came across as completely clueless when asked about anything that wasn’t as basic as it gets. She’s a corporate gal turned game writer that has no previous experience directing or designing games. It was without a shadow of a doubt a DEI promotion, and it’s a damn shame.
It's crazy that they decided performance should take a backseat after we have seen developers get shut down entirely after putting out games with poor performance; because they are not salvegable after people already decided they suck. Even crazier still that they apparently made the decision to not care about performance very early on: they set a target for 30fps with no intention of going to 60. It's so wild. It's like they are stuck in 2009 or something. I wonder if they understand this will cost them a lot of players that would have otherwise been interested. I am one of them. Easy pass for me.
What developers have shut down because of poor performance lmao? That's something you made up. Developers shut down because gamers expect way to much, games get bloated as fuck price wise and gamers bitch about below inflation prices.
I got used to Elder Scrolls combat as a way to push the story I was role-playing in the universe, and a fun opportunity to experiment with its systems, even though it is not good. As long as this game has that expansive world where you can role-play your character and find your own story, I can forgive the suboptimal combat. If the world is bland like some of Obsidian's have been (ex: The Outer Worlds), I'm definitely going to feel aggravated by the combat. So yes, I'm now a bit more cautious about this game, and will wait for more in-depth reviews that touch on the role-playing systems and lore, otherwise likely getting it when it's on sale.
I am starting to agree with notion gamepass is reducing the standards of games being released. The game does not need to be gold standard, just enough to be worth checking out in gamepass.
Am I crazy or does first person melee look goofy as hell? Holding up a sword and an axe like it’s time for dinner. The swings look like rock ‘em sock ‘em robots. It’s so bad. The combat looks like Skyrim which was bad when it came out in 1943. And then you tell us the performance is bad? Seems like This shoulda just been a walking simulator with choices.
Yeah, the lack of interest to refine combat as well as the decision to not care about performance are going to sink this game. I lost all interest after this video (and searching other sources to see if this was accurate; which it apparently is. They straight up said they decided very early on to not even attempt going for 60fps. Like what... how old is their mindset).
As long as I can turn off those damage numbers, yeah, I'll definitely be giving this a try. The PoE world and lore are fantastic, so I'm always down for more.
Avowed's combat sounds pretty much just like Skyrim or TES games, combat in those games is beyond simple, but the game's immersion is at the forefront. Plus on PC, this game will get modded to death, another comparison to Skyrim.
I loved PoE I and II and really didn't like Outer Worlds (very easy, combat wasn't fun) so I'm torn on what Avowed is going to be like. The UI is also very garish, IMO, though not as bad as what I saw of the new Dragon Age.
It actually looks more fun from the footage you showed vs. the little bit I've seen previously. I would rather they made another POE game, but I will definitely play this and probably enjoy it... I'm sure I'll be wishing it was a true POE3 the whole time I play it, though.
Im a little concerned with the combat in this game, it does not seem natural or good, especially the wand... hope for the best tho because i love both pillars of etternity.
They should delay it again for a month or two and hire some for just optimization. It really seems like Obsidian really needs more people optimizing their 3D games these days.
The fact that they didn’t let you guys use your own footage clearly because they didn’t want you to show the actual performance is a huge red flag Also the UI is atrocious hopefully we can resize it at least, hopefully they’ll iron this stuff out because I really want to play this.
I’m hoping that this game turns out well. I really enjoy Obsidian games. The Outer Worlds was a wonderful, contained experience. I am not expecting a 10/10 game, but I am looking forward to playing it. I love exploration and a good story.
Sounds like I'll probably love it, eventually, once it comes to ps5 and goes on sale. Not because I don't appreciate the devs, nothing like that, because I'm a working father who doesn't have a lot of money or time left over when everything's said and done.
I'm excited for this game, although 75 percent of that is due to the story and world established in PoE 1 and 2. I expect combat to evolve slightly as you level up and get more powers/interesting equipment. Starting as a level 1 mage in most CRPGs for example feels a bit underpowered, but usually by level 6 or 7 you start to see them come into their own especially when you add enemy damage resistances in the mix.
I am happy to hear that the Avowed is staying true visibly and story wise. Back to visually, I think what is chuging the FPS is all the attention to detail visually. For the programmers I hope they can fix that and have the game able to run at 60fps or higher BEFORE launch. I would love for RPG that I play to have an amazing battle tactics, to it, that is complementary to the world it is based in. What I am getting at is games like the Witcher and "I" would say like Hogwarts Legacy, because in that game there is a counter spell for spells going in your direction and for mini bosses you can potentially wipe the floor with them if you time your counter attack correctly. I love Tactics and counter attacks that both the player and enemy can use if possible. Now, Now, that is just my thoughts flowing out of me freely but really I am grateful and MORE grateful that Avowed is true to Pilers of Eternity Deadfire Narratively, visibly, audibly etc etc woop woop
The healing of the Plague channel ability needs to toned way down. It's a free 1% to 100%. Not a great spell to have in gameplay. Metas will be forced to form around it.
I hope they tweak magic combat based on your observations. IMO, game’s with solid exploration are awesome. Elden Ring’s way of rewarding exploration’s amazing, & SotE’s a bit more empty… but sometimes the reward is an amazing view ❤ As for 30FPS, I’m okay with that. My first computer ran WoW at lowest graphics, & 30 FPS was a dream, LoL 😄
The animations are really good and snappy, they've taken inspiration from skyrim combat mods. Hit-stop and clear feedback. The hitmarkers are kinda unneccesary because its very obvious when an attack lands.
I'm really looking forward to this. I didn't play Pillars as I'm not really into CRPGs, I prefer 1st or 3rd person. With that said, didn't they say this would have a 3rd person choice?
Yeah i know Avowed will be a fail when IGN says the Ranger class is the best way to play this game 😬, no thanks but i would play Pillars of Eternity 1-2 again over Avowed.
Im extremely bummed that they went this direction with the pillars lore and series. I think sticking to crpgs is a no brainer, considering the success of baldurs gate 3. I have no interest to play a bad performing skyrim , with a pillars of eternity skin. I can see that pillars 2 didnt sell as well as expected , but i think a pillars 3 crpg if done properly would attract far more players today. Im sad we may never see a modern pillars 3.....
Damn I didn’t catch that older classes aren’t returning, no monk? No cipher? Oh and were forced to play a godlike? How do helmets work then? Strange decisions all around
Looking forward to it but I hope Obsidian is able to return to it's previous format with PoE. Don't mind ARPG's but they often comes with heavily watered down systems.
I'm replaying Deadfire and that made me hyped for avowed because the scenario and Obsidian writing is so good, but I'm also worried thet have to downscale TOO MUCH because of the action RPG direction they chose. I also don't like the xbox system so I'll jsut buy on steam, so hopefully it's worth the full price at release. I'll wait until some trusted reviewers do their work, no pre-purchase (and I'd prepurchase pillars or eternity 3 at the second it was available).
We don't get enough first-person RPGs, and it's a real shame.

This game is really similar to skyrim in the sense, that combat system (esp meele) is so clunky, that everybody will always gravitate to stealth archer build to cheese the shitty combat and enjoy the quests and exploration :D Just from glancing at the skill trees, we know its gonna be busted... On demand invis with stealth crit mechanics, huge mobility, big damage boosts, time slow, dumb enemies, everything you need to create your typical OP stealth archer :D
Is there some kind of directional parry/block? Seeing those arrows from the border of the screen whenever a blow is coming makes me think about something like that is in place

I like Grounded games more anyway not a fan of fantasy but KCD2 as game looks better either way. There is also a massive amount of fantasy games lately so gamss like Kingdom come, Mafia old Country and even GTA6 as Modern crime game will all stand out more in 2025.
no doubt. This will go to my "get on sale" category
@@Ronuk1996 I don't see enough difference between kcd1 and kcd2.
There is no definitive better here. Buy both or the one you like more.
@@taylan5579it does look little bit better but i rather improve in mechanics and be stable. Vegas was just ‘the same’ but was best rpg there is
The performance issue is a complete puzzle to me, this game is far from looking next gen and yet it is what it is... What the actuall hell ??
KCD 2 releases a week before and makes this look like a 360 game.
I'm still really hoping they can shore this up. The PoE games have such great lore and PoE2 especially is one of my all time favorites.
Its the game where the dev said 30 fps was good scary statement
Wait, did you say you have to play as a Godlike?
Seems like this will be yet another game where the player is the chosen one and will have their ego wanked on each step they take. >_>
@@LucitaurGodlikes aren’t that special tho. They’re just food for the Gods, and that’ll probably come into play in the story.
@@lothara.schmal5092 Oh, that's good then.

What I can't wait for, is the amount of builds you will come up with. Love this channel. Always my go to channel and website.
Wow, I just noticed congrats on 1M subs, well deserved!
I hope the story and game are so good, that it doesn't matter in the end, but I'm hesitant.
yeah, thats because KCD actually simulates contact and physics of objects.
On contrary, you can have really basic light, heavy, block mechanics, but if enemies can be knocked to ground, sent flying by uppercuts, staggered by shield bash, parried and riposted, it will feel great!
there are hit animations on enemies no different than in kcd
@@ZainAhmad-jl4vt they are nowhere near that level. They play some random stagger animation, completely disjointed from the attack
Valid statement
This is the first video I’ve seen that makes me excited to play avowed. The exploration looks incredible.
Compare that to Kingdom Come, Witcher 3 or Baldur’s Gate 3….these games made me feel like I was playing something new and exciting
Waited for so long, should've known after outer worlds combat that avowed was not going to be it
Outer Worlds combat wasn't bad at all. It was much better than all ES and Fallout games combat-wise.
I still didn't like the art style and how damn talkative all the npcs were.
Should non Obsidian are not great at combat.
@@arkannon1682 Are you seriously with a straight face tell me Outer Worlds combat is better than F4 and F76? Half Life from 1998 has better shooting than Outer Worlds and that's saying something.
This is fantasy outer worlds. Which is bad 😂

@@Bronkowitsch but everyone talks about obsidian! They wrote new Vegas bro! They know what they are doing!
what's the big deal about playing a godlike? colors look beautiful, hud is customizable, combat looks fine.
@@ZainAhmad-jl4vt because playing a godlike is already restricting you in an rpg. The character isn’t even voiced so you are not getting a Geralt situation. Being a character with crap on their face is just dumb.

10 seconds into the video and omg the UI is utter garbage. 30% of the screen is taken up by that junior web designer doodoo. Also, 30fps in 2024... Need I say more.
Seriously, the UI looks like it was stripped right from a shitty MMO.
Thankfully every UI element in Avowed are toggle-able.
@@Weaver0x00 Seriously how big does the boss healthbar need to be??
I can do with Avowed while waiting for Elder Scrolls 6
Not worried about performance particularly because that’ll change up to (and after) release. Also, playing on PC. I am also worried about the combat though, and I really want to want to get it, as I loved the earlier games, and the world they created.
Take a shot every time he says "Pillars of Eternity" lol
Looks great. I am sure I am going to have a blast with this game. Thanks for the preview.
I can't wait. This game looks amazing.
I am starting to agree with notion gamepass is reducing the standards of games being released. The game does not need to be gold standard, just enough to be worth checking out in gamepass.
That's such a stunted narrative
Am I crazy or does first person melee look goofy as hell? Holding up a sword and an axe like it’s time for dinner. The swings look like rock ‘em sock ‘em robots. It’s so bad. The combat looks like Skyrim which was bad when it came out in 1943. And then you tell us the performance is bad? Seems like This shoulda just been a walking simulator with choices.
1943 lol
Yeah, the lack of interest to refine combat as well as the decision to not care about performance are going to sink this game. I lost all interest after this video (and searching other sources to see if this was accurate; which it apparently is. They straight up said they decided very early on to not even attempt going for 60fps. Like what... how old is their mindset).
Funny boi. Made me chuckle
When it comes to combat, "Dragon's Dogma" is still my favorite RPG. Both physical and magic combat.
Actually?
It actually looks more fun from the footage you showed vs. the little bit I've seen previously. I would rather they made another POE game, but I will definitely play this and probably enjoy it... I'm sure I'll be wishing it was a true POE3 the whole time I play it, though.
Im a little concerned with the combat in this game, it does not seem natural or good, especially the wand... hope for the best tho because i love both pillars of etternity.
They should delay it again for a month or two and hire some for just optimization. It really seems like Obsidian really needs more people optimizing their 3D games these days.
Keeping it real
Hope we can max out the skill trees even if it takes long let me feel like an actual godlike being please
The fact that they didn’t let you guys use your own footage clearly because they didn’t want you to show the actual performance is a huge red flag
Also the UI is atrocious hopefully we can resize it at least, hopefully they’ll iron this stuff out because I really want to play this.
I’m hoping that this game turns out well. I really enjoy Obsidian games. The Outer Worlds was a wonderful, contained experience. I am not expecting a 10/10 game, but I am looking forward to playing it. I love exploration and a good story.
Thanks for doing these - it's helpful to get good objective insight for these before release
Still super pumped they have quite a few months to polish and balance things so still my most anticipated game
Well, that's a bummer. I was very excited to play a battle mage in this game. I really hope they figure this out by launch.
It's normal to have some classes be more tough than others. Souls games for example have this. Maybe in the endgame the mage becomes stronger.
Narrative will make or break this game. Can't really judge the game until it's beaten.
I am pumped for this game and I hope the extra time in the oven makes it worth while in the end. Lets go Obsidian!!!
The healing of the Plague channel ability needs to toned way down. It's a free 1% to 100%. Not a great spell to have in gameplay. Metas will be forced to form around it.
I hope they tweak magic combat based on your observations. IMO, game’s with solid exploration are awesome. Elden Ring’s way of rewarding exploration’s amazing, & SotE’s a bit more empty… but sometimes the reward is an amazing view ❤
As for 30FPS, I’m okay with that. My first computer ran WoW at lowest graphics, & 30 FPS was a dream, LoL 😄
I have no idea what it is about the visuals but if someone told me this is a mobile game I wouldn't be surprised whatsoever.
You don't need to play PoE 1 and 2 to play this.
But you should.
Strange decisions all around
wait, you're talking about this as if it has a class system, but they recently said in an interview avowed has a classless system
Interested after reviews.
This video made me more interested then the gameplay demo.

@@tatienouorest3358infinite mana with cost reduction enchantments on destruction spells is pretty OP
I'm very excited to play this game
We don't get enough first-person RPGs, and it's a real shame.
This game is really similar to skyrim in the sense, that combat system (esp meele) is so clunky, that everybody will always gravitate to stealth archer build to cheese the shitty combat and enjoy the quests and exploration :D Just from glancing at the skill trees, we know its gonna be busted... On demand invis with stealth crit mechanics, huge mobility, big damage boosts, time slow, dumb enemies, everything you need to create your typical OP stealth archer :D
What you say about the mage being difficult to use surprises me, as it was pretty powerful in Skyrim, or at least with the builds I created.
That worried me too but the Wizards looked just fine on the extensive video Enfant Terrible posted. I don't Fextralife knew how to play as a Wizard.
Is there some kind of directional parry/block? Seeing those arrows from the border of the screen whenever a blow is coming makes me think about something like that is in place
Them removing 4 player co-op killed any excitement I had for this game
So, we are stuck with playing as a Godlike? No other races??? I bet they did that so they didn't have to model helms and other head gear. Character is from the Vailian Republics, but can only play as a Godlike... Ridiculous
I heard we were only allowed to play human or elf early on, not sure if they expanded races to godlike.
Pretty sure this isn’t supposed to be a classic rpg, it’s more of a story game with dog mechanics and choices. Like Disohonored or smth.
Weird how all the B-Roll footage is combat based but the game is supposed to be mostly a narrative driven one. I am not completely sold on the combat yet, as it looks oddly stilted. Will have to wait and see!
