- A new client brought me a beat up Ibanez RG that had until recently been living in the garage. He wanted the guitar brought back to playing shape...but we had to do it on a budget! Wanna support the channel? Head over to our Band Camp and buy yourself a song. They are a dollar each but you can donate as much as you would like. Thank you! gravityreversi...
That graphite/pencil hack for the pickups is GENIUS!!! Thank you thank you thank you!!
Glad to help, thank you for watching!
Been going through a lot of crap today. Watching your videos is like therapy. It really calms me down.
Well I appreciate you checking it out. Going through crap builds character but I think a lot of us feel like we've got a enough character lately, haha. I hope things get better for you fast.
SNARK!!!! Love those things!! Awesome video as always! Keep it up!!
I have 8 or 9 of the around because I always lose them, buy a new one and find the missing one later, haha. Thanks man!
ForsytheVideo they're definitely good investments!! Kind of like picks.. Can't have enough!
Great vid! I've got a RG270 coming in next week which is in a worse state! Yeah!
Bless you bro for the amazing work. Just love how you bring new life in guitars that look beyond salvation!
Thank you so much! I really appreciate you watching.
Loved the video as always! Wasnt able to get the westone bass sadly, but I was at a friends house the other day. We ended up going into an abandoned house and I found A bass in there! Its and old rouge bass. Ill have to make a video about it sometime.
Whaaaaat?! That is crazy. I've gotta see that thing!
Is it me or do you sound like Ray Liotta?
Great video! Trems are a pain in the ass for sure. I own 7 with them, mostly Ibanez's.
7?!I used to own mostly Floyds, as I have gotten older I have switched to mostly hard tails. I guess I've gotten lazy when it comes to string changes, I think I have 1 7 string and 1 6 string with a Floyd now.
Mint job man!
Thank you!
Great idea!! Love the budget concept!!! I know it wws mandatory, but still so cool!! Love seeing you restore these, have learned lots!
Hey thanks man, hope you're doing well! Sometimes you gotta go cheap, and it helps to have the little tricks to still make it look nice.
Dude, super inspirational. Thanks man
Awesome works ! Just one thing : I really avoid to use paper made of cellulose to clean guitar because this paper are made from « wood » particule. So it can « scratches » the finish . Have a great day
I would worry about that if this had a nitro finish, but since this is a modern poly finish it is much too hard to be scratched by paper towels.
I legit bought the same guitar from a pawn shop for $70 and it was in better co dition
Sometimes it do be like that
Excellent work, Looks great. I actually traded in another inexpensive Ibanez RG220 B I had plus 50 bucks to get my RG270 DX at a Guitar Center, in excellent condition. The reason was, I hate cutting off the ball ends of the strings on a Floyd Rose and clamping them. Mine and others I have seen have a single point locking tremolo, Since you just slide the strings through the back of the whammy with the ball ends still on them, and they slot nicely. You don’t have to cut off the ball end at all. That’s what I really like about the RG270 DX. It is a decent shredder guitar for the low dough.
And a good build quality, as most Made in Korea guitars typically are.
I pulled it out and played it last night, then realized although it was real cool, that I had since picked up a 1986 Yamaha SE-612 that was a good shredder also (with similar features and single point locking bridge style, but more in a Fender Strat format that fit me better), so I sold the RG270 DX today. C'est la vie'!
Love your vids man, I always learn something new. Thank you very much. Also dig the tunes \m/
Thank you so much! I really appreciate it.
Great as always
Thanks man, hope things are well with you!
Well thank you brother things are great I just got two more gift guitars and waiting for the third in the mail. ( Ibanez Talman, Fender Starcaster and waiting on that Univox High Flyer). Oooo buddy fun times. You did a great job with that guitar man
Oh man you hit the jackpot, those Talman's are pretty cool. Definitely keep me posted on your progress.
Thanks man, I was thinking of doing a full restoration but I do like the fact that there’s a bunch of paint chunked out lol. I’m going to try to make a body template out of it though but dam the paint and finish is like half an inch think I would send you pix but I still don’t know how haha
Haha, I am continually surprised by paint thickness on productions guitars. You're more than welcome to add me on Facebook at Facebook.com/Richard.Dunlavy or email me at ForsytheProductions@Yahoo.com .
i have 2 RG’s a 220 and a 220B i these RG’s thanks for the video
Good job
I am glad it was a budget job! If you would'a taken all the scratches of the pickups and refinished it then the story of the guitar would be lost. Not to mention it would be just another shredder axe.
I would have used some wd40 on the poles while scrubbing them, it gives the plastics a bit of a sheen too. but it sure is a satisfying refurbish. Thanks for the graphite tip and the nailpolish on dents trick. Those will surely come handy.
Great job..i love this video
Thank you!
Nice work! I just picked up an RG270dx. I only had to polish the frets and set up the bridge. Someone before me decided to use some abrasive on the pickups, the poles look good but the plastic is scrached now. I used to have the exact guitar 20 years ago and the bridge took a sleeved bar, this one only takes a plain threaded bar, which did not come with it nor did the pressure plates/bolts and the part that is above the nut that holds the strings down. All and all it came out nice. But I've got to find out what the other bridge is, as I liked it better for quick removal of the bar, the ball ends could be left on too.
Little TLC goes a long way. Nice work as usual. In all the videos out there I’ve never seen any restring a Floyd like that. Can you give me an extremely brief explanation if possible. Thanks
Sure. Since the Floyd has clamping blocks in the bridge, I run my strings through the tuning peg holes with the ball end sticking out. I have the bridge blocked up where the plate of the bridge runs parallel with the guitar body I tune both E strings up and see if the bridge lifts past that parallel line, if not, I tune the A and B strings. If it has lifted I loosen the set of strings and tighten the screw in the back, then re-tension the pair of strings. I then do the same with the G and D, tuning all the other strings as well. Once everything is to pitch and the bridge is parallel I know I've gotten the tension right. I cut off my ball ends and lock everything down at that point. Thanks for watching!
ForsytheVideo thanks for getting back so quickly, I actually understood what you were saying. If ever in the Bradenton area, have a beer or two on me
What's the band playing in background? I really liked it!
Nasty
Great job as always. Restoration of the Westone is taking longer than hoped. Would it be ok to send you some picks via Facebook?
Absolutely! I'd love to check it out. Facebook.com/Richard.Dunlavy
What do you use for fret polishing? Great vid
The action in the end is beautiful 👌 It didn’t have a fret buzz?
No, it played wonderfully and the customer was very happy. Thank you for watching!
Scope of the Grode....sounds like the title of a Mastadon song...
Haha, yes. I'm going to see them in May so I'll suggest it.
ForsytheVideo That's awesome man! I would live to be able to see Mastodon, maybe the next time they play a festival around me I can. Awesome video by the way!
Thank you man! And You have no idea how stoked I am, they are playing with Primus in Birmingham, Primus has been one one of my top 3 favorite bands since I was 15. Can't wait!
Thats awesome man, I've recently started to play bass as well as guitar and Les Claypool is a monster! I love watching your videos on guitar repair and resto, I have recently started doing quite a bit of it to my guitars and the guitarist in my bands guitars as well.
Hell yeah, that's the best way to get started, just get your hands dirty working on every instrument you can. I appreciate you watching.
Grg 270 looks like rg270 except sharks t. on frets.
Awsome vidio
Thank you!
@@ForsytheVideo so cool that u made it so his kids can start or play with a decent instement.not many people care for others anymore.and it's cool for grown ups to be able to enjoy somthing they find that has lost its speak and make it nice again...on the cheap.loved it🤘
@@joshuataft5541 I totally agree! The more playable an instrument is the more likely they are to play it. Last I heard the gentleman's kids enjoyed the guitar, but he's been playing it more than them! Haha.
Repeatedly impressed with your voice-over. Care to divulge your mic of choice for this?
Thanks Oren. I have too many mics and have tried several for voiceover, but if I remember correctly this was a Shure PGA181. A fairly inexspensive but useful condenser.
This band I hear needs a different drummer... sorry!
Thanks I was the drummer
