This movie was a big deal when it came out in 1979. Showed an accomplished black women doing her thing. Loved it

It shows SOOOOOOO VERY MUCH MORE than that.
This movie was very good. I am so glad that Princess aka (Harriet) realized that she didn't belong down there in Harlem, NY where she came from. She had made it out of the hood with determination and education and family encouraging her. And she has a boyfriend that really loves her who was a successful attorney. She needed to be with people like herself. It's good to help people in need but you are only one person, and you can't save the whole world. You have to do your part and help some people. Great!! movie
I agree with all of that with the exception of her being so loose outside of marriage.

Seeing these women in their prime and seeing them now really drives it home - time passes SO fast. Young today, tomorrow older (and hopefully wiser). Our life really is like a flower.

You are sooo right, I've found that the FOUNTAIN of youth starts with the acceptance of the Word of God.
He has a lot to say on aging, it begins in the mind the central professing unit for the body.
If we can wrap our mind around what our CREATOR says about us, not what we think, read Ps 139, it says it all. I am 72 yes young same as some of the people in this movie today. I still play tennis, jog, walk, golf etc, because I embrace the Word of my Creator. I have the mind of Christ, I hold his thoughts and purposes in my heart.

It seemed right, when's she said she rather help from where she was,some times people embrace negativity I'm stead of shunning it so they can be better people.

these movies remind me of my childhood, my dad and mom coming home from work, our brick street, the street light that came on in the neighborhoods. Never ever thought of a pandemic in my life time. its 2020 and this is what help me make it through these days we live in

It took me several days to get thru this movie but i always came back and also rewatched some scenes before i finally got to the end, so it felt like i had watched a bunch of episodes. This would have been a great tv show…i loved Saundra and Hattie in their roles.

Because a lot ( not all) black women today don't think they're good enough, and they change their skin tone their body shape everything about themselves, and when you don't respect, and carry yourself as a queen how the hell do you expect for somebody else to? I mean if you think about it look at the kind of men or I should say the caliber of so-called men that these women are trying to impress I wouldn't bring them home to meet my dog they don't represent real black men because real black men and, real black women don't act anything like that they don't act at all they just stay real all the time. And by real let me clarify we keep it cool we keep it classy we keep it educated we keep it calm we keep it welcoming we'll keep it loving we keep it Godly we keep it peaceful we keep it together baby!!!!!

I saw this on television when it originally aired , it was interesting then and still is . Some Blacks find success and some don't , some want to help and some want to forget , this dynamic is still ongoing . However, it was great to see images of successful Blacks too. Just like she said help from where you are . Thanks for these great films .

I think she was too confused between guilt, memories, and, as the boyfriend said: "wanting more of life." Sometimes it´s too hard to help, but it´s possible to "do" something, and that´s helping indirectly. Maybe that´s fairer for everyone; and it would give her a connection to both worlds she wanted to be in touch with.

Watching this movie for the first time at 35 years young I see this from a different perspective. You really can’t save everyone. Instead of Sweettalk getting his life together he wallowed in pity for himself then tried to blame Hattie for reacting to what he was. She was the first person in a long time to actually show him the truth. Danny had been enabling him for a long time. Hattie was right. Both Danny and Sweettalk were afraid of moving forward. At least Hattie attempted to come back and help unlike Paul and his buddy. In the end Hattie did what she could and still realized she could not go back and also move forward. Sweettalk robbed her and used the money to buy the drugs that killed him. Danny blaming her showed her that he too was stuck just as much as Sweet Talk. I’m glad she made the best decision for her.
Loved this film. I grew up in the 1970s and this reminded me of that time.

That was deep.....
So many powerful messages and lessons in this movie. At some point in life, we all must face our reflection and decide what to do.
I love that many of these actors are still alive, I hate that we don't see them in many films today.

I love these old movies. I saw this when I was growing up. I can not remember if it was home on television or the theatre.. Very good theme about working , and getting educated to progress in society however we must always mentor or pull someone else up. You can still go back to your neighborhood and give back. I always thought Saundra Sharp was great looking and classy like Dianhann Carroll.

My father used to take my brother and me to Coney Island every Sunday afternoon when we lived in Brooklyn. It was awesome!

This was a suggested movie from an old uncle of mine after I tried to help my classmates and got ridiculed for helping. Not all of them but a few weren’t very nice to me behind me trying to help. I received comments like “who asked for your help?” I’m trying not to b afraid to help others again. Can’t wait to watch this and c what he’s talking about lol 😆
Wow! I can't believe that this was the first time that I've seen my cousin working in his craft. This movie really shed light on issues that we face in our communities, positive communication strategies and bridging the gap between blacks of different economic and social levels.

Why do the characters with a darker complexion always have to be the mean or negative people in films while the rich and successful characters often have a lighter skin tone? I wanna see a film where dark skin people play both roles. Any recommendations? Apart from that detail, this film had a great message and very good writing.

This was a great movie, you can tell low budget movies, yet we know that take away from good stories. This brought back memories. The struggles our people go thru even when you do make it. I thought of mahongey with D. Ross, but that was love story. This was real good writers, good actors, great reality story. How far we gotten from to where we are today. Family movie. Another well-written, brilliantly performed movie by an all-black cast. This movie shows Black people being authentically Black and as multidimensional as all other humans. It was great seeing Hattie Winston doing her thing!
Hattie Winston has a beautiful voice I was totally unaware she is a singer. I remember the episode of "Good Times" with Saundra Sharp playing Gary Coleman's mother. Anne-Marie Hosford played Dee on the "Wayans Brothers." Morgan Freeman playing a junkie, not a role you see often from him.

Wow! A beautiful and powerful black film with excellent talent and story line. I was too young to remember the movie back then. I wanted to move to NYC to become a fashion designer, but now into film production (I do a little fashion design now as well). Thank you for posting this movie.
She made the right choice. Too many Black women struggle trying to build a man. She was successful and dating a successful man. They could build generational wealth and give back to the community in their own way.

This movie is just how it is. The drugs, gangs and crabs in the barrel is very real.
I really enjoyed this movie. I like the ending / her understanding of how to help. not where she came from but where she is at now. which is part of accepting someone where they currently are.
