      Same! There have been a few games in the last 10 or so years which are in a similar ballpark both in terms of gameplay and themes, off top of my head Portal, The Turing Test, The Witness, The Swapper, Soma. But for my money Talos is in its own league.

    I have full faith in this sequel. These team leaders all seem passionate about the game and seem to understand places they fell short in the first game. I really like that instead of ignoring the fans and reusing the play button or listening to the fans and getting rid of it, they created a similar puzzle element that gets rid of the problem fans complained about

    Much more than a game. It's like travelling to a world of tranquility, spirituality, sanctuary, and enlightenment. I've been gaming since the earliest days Pong and Tank, own more than 2000 games and none of them have evoked such deep and lasting emotion as TTP; a remarkable adventure that makes you contemplate not only solving the puzzles, but also about one's own existence! I particularly like Verena's comments regarding the portrayal of the character who had a point of view different from her, but decided to be objective in the casting. It's these sort of details that make this a great game!

  • @spreiselbeerleprv
    @spreiselbeerleprv Před 8 měsíci +1

    After 19 hours in the game (halfway through the story I assume), I am so thrilled about the second encounter. Not only is it visually communicating about the players expectations, it also combines new puzzles (very well conducted) with less frustration and a very rewarding feel (even more than Talos 1).
    I wasn't expecting that amount of production quality. "The Talos Principle 2" is top of my alltime favourite puzzle computer games list. It is well thought, much loved by Croteam, the characters are incredibly well voiced, it is more lively without loosing the lonelyness feel and has the best suck-me-in-one-more-riddle-factor. Croteam did very well on taking the right amount of time to develop this gem of a game.
    Only with the philosophical aspects I frequently think: Either I'm not on the same intellectional level or its character-mumbojumbo. In other moments the topics reflect my understanding totally. Reading the texts were sometimes a thank-you-next, but the audio logs support that experience (so that experience is intentional).
    Overall I am not only addicted to the second installment, I love this game very much! Thank you Croteam for investing so much skills into the next chapter. This game is my christmas gift 2023. If there ever will be a third game, take your time because quality matters most. =)
    Soundtrack-wise the so far heard music reminds me constantly of dido and soft cell. I guess, that is also intentional. 😏

    I really loved playing Portal 1 and 2, and once I completed them several times I was hoping for another challenging puzzle game. One of my coworkers pointed me to The Talos Principle. I tried the Demo and I was really amazed about the athmosphere in the game. Game mechanics are so different to Portal. However I enjoyed every moment, so I bought the game and the DLC.
    The original game was challenging, the DLC Road to Gehenna in some places was too difficult for me.
    I am really looking forward to the sequel, it already is on my wishlist on Steam.

Neutrality when it comes to philosophy, politics or other world views you don't agree with is pretty hard in today's day and age. I think a puzzle game should always avoid requiring speed and timing. That's why I consider Portal 2 as a much better game than the first one. But in Talos, I actually liked the recording mechanic. Good timing rarely was an issue for me.

    • @pura8898
      @pura8898 Před 11 měsíci +13

      I liked it because you could for 95% of the recording puzzles leave as much room for your future self to properly do the action you need to do
      I'd be standing there doing nothing for 15-30 seconds even if I could do it in 5 seconds with the recording
      If this makes sense how I've written it

    • @peshozmiata
      @peshozmiata Před 11 měsíci +9

      The recorder puzzles were the most difficult, but also the most rewarding to finish. They take me back to the 90s adventure and puzzle games where you had moments that were just very rough on the player with solutions that don't seem to make sense. Where you had to quit the game and think about it until a solution comes to you, maybe days later. Modern games are always so careful about player retention that you don't see things like this anymore.

    • @thinkygames
      @thinkygames  Před 11 měsíci +12

      The primary reason I wasn't a fan is that experimentation is much more expensive in these type of temporal puzzles, where you end up waiting around a lot, especially if you're adding lots of buffer time to your solution. And if you got the setup wrong - one step not quite close enough to where you needed to be, start again. That the skill sometimes was not solving the puzzle, but having patience and attention to temporal detail. It's interesting to analyse but I've generally bounced off games which have similar mechanics. (eg Rose and Time, Induction, Echoplex) But they're definitely rewarding when you succeed. -- Joel

    Talos Principle is possibly my favorite game of all time (in close competition with Uru and the Myst series).
    The atmosphere is beautiful and feels incredibly real, and the puzzles are all masterfully done, enjoyable, rewarding, and most important of all incredibly difficult (but that's what makes it so great).

    I like the game but The Talos Principle: Road To Gehenna had challenging puzzles and that is why I prefer it. That is my personal preference of course. Do people like hard puzzles...I think not and that is why developers have to make let's call them casual levels and optional for the players who like a good challenge. Bonfire Peaks is a prime example of that, you can finish the game very fast but the optional levels are there and they are the fun part for the thinkers :) Good luck to Cro Team.

      @@PreshoPr I just tested the first two parts (MFBG1,2) and they work in the VR version. The campaigns have to be installed from the workshop for the 2D version, then their .gro files need to be manually copied from their folder in:
      \Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\workshop\content
      to \Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\The Talos Principle VR\Content\Talos
      If these could somehow be published for the VR version's workshop page it would be easier for new users since Steam would just install them there. I will test the other parts and let you know if something is broken.

      Oh, great, good to know! But I m sure I did not put the VR entities for FANS, maybe there will be a problem in gameplay?

      @@PreshoPr I had no idea the fans even had separate VR variants. I've played through a bunch of 2D workshop campaigns with fans in them like The Fourth Dimension and never saw an issue with gameplay. The only ones i haven't been able to get running on the VR version are the ones that rely on DLC that was only bundled with the 2D version like the "Prototype" assets and levels. Those .gro files can't be "transplanted" by moving the files because the game detects them as "unsigned". Shroedinger's Cat is one that uses those assets for torches on the walls and such

    The thing I'm most curious about is: What will the system requirements of the game be? I would like to play fluently with my GTX 1650ti computer at medium or high settings :')

    I wasn't expect a sequel to this game ... can't say I'm not SUPER happy about it. At the time I used the game for thesis in Philosphy.

    I played a lot of puzzle games and The Talos Principle always stood out to me. Not only cause of the story, but mainly because I got so much playtime out of the game. If I trust Steam on the playtime, I spent more time playing Talos than Portal 1+2, QUBE 1+2, The Turing Test and The Witness combined. I mean 4 of 6 were done in around 5 hours or less each.
    From what I have seen in the trailers and a 10min alpha play test, I am still excited, but also a little worried. Seems like the overall difficulty might have gone down, but I might be entirely wrong on this. Guess I have to buy the game and see for myself.

      My impression is that it would be easier to finish the game but not necessarily easier to complete everything - hard stuff is off the main path. Also, the plan is for the puzzles to be quick to implement a solution but that doesn't mean it will be easy to find that solution. An example would be the recent Magicube where the puzzle are very simple yet confound the player - I played only completed two levels in 20 minutes (the best kind of puzzles IMO). But we will see! --Joel

    Played the demo. Runs like crap, FPS drops down to 17 fps in the main (city) area. Interesting story af, great puzzles, but not at all optimized. Hope they fix it till release.
