  • Built-in 1776 Gohyaku-rakan is located in the silver mining village of Omori in Oda in the Iwami area of shimane. Gohyaku-rakan is a Shingon Buddhist temple designed as a memorial service for all working miners of the silver mines in the area. Very beautiful nature scenes TokyoStreetView, blended with some traditional Japanese architecture. I love it!

They are not 501 Jizo Statues. They are 501 Arhat (Buddhist saints) statues. Jizo is a Bodhisattva, one of the greatest ones, and has many forms, but usually appears as a monk holding a staff and a wish granting jewel. The Arhats are monks who achieved Nirvana with help from the Buddha.
