- Once a mild-mannered liberal, New York City architect Paul Kersey (Charles Bronson) snaps when intruders break into his home, murdering his wife (Hope Lange) and violently raping his daughter. A business trip to Tucson, Ariz., lands him a gift from a client, a revolver he uses to patrol the streets when he returns home. Frustrated that the police cannot find the intruders, he become a vigilante, gunning down any criminal that crosses his path. The public finds this vigilantism heroic.

When the producers first pitched the movie to Bronson, Bronson said "I'd like to do that." The producer said "do the movie?", and Bronson answered, "No, shoot muggers."
The mayor in this movie is somehow an exact doppleganger for Mayor Adams today. Both are more outraged by self-defense than the criminals they need to defend themselves from.
It's not just he wants to get revenge on criminals. His main focus is ending his own life. A "death wish", if you will. He's hoping that one night he'll be taken down and not live in misery anymore.
Finally someone reacted to a Death Wish movie. Haven't seen the reaction yet, but I hope you liked the movie. Charles Bronson has a lot of great movies.
Ironically it's the reactor that looks most like Charles Bronson that does it first.
I'll second that. I saw his Porky's reaction yesterday, searched for Death Wish and subscribed before he got done with his intro.
Good reactions to flicks nobody else is watching.
👍👍
Yeah he kinda does
Death Wish is a Western revenge movie set in 70's NYC.
The "Death Wish" movies resurrected Bronson's career who back in the early days was better known for his acting in westerns. When you have an opportunity do yourself a favor and watch "Once Upon A Time In The West"..
Charles Bronson was a major star. He had so many powerful movies. You need to check them out.
Originally "Death Wish" was JUST supposed to be a single film. The first sequel wasn't made for another 8 years.
Death Wish caused quite the stir back in the day and Bronson was huge back in the 60s and 70s...especially overseas. For more Bronson: The Magnificent Seven, The Great Escape, and The Dirty Dozen where he was part of great ensemble casts. For more starring roles: The Mechanic, Mr Majestyk, Breakout, and Hard Times
"The Mechanic" is a great movie. One movie you might agree should be on the list is "Death Hunt" which also starred Lee Marvin.
I met Charles Bronson in 1976 at Campions Store in Hanover NH (it's not far from his farm in Vermont).
He wasn't chatty, but he was polite, and since I was only 11 any conversation wouldn't have been interesting for him.
@@MrVvulfLove Death Hunt and practically every movie he did during the 70's.
How dare you not mention
“Once Upon A Time in the West”!!!
Ooops, sorry.@@KrazyKat007
MURPHY'S LAW is my favorite! Have you seen that one?
Un the 1970s New York was under siege by criminals. Mugging armed robbery and homicides went unsloved. With a turnstile justice system where criminals were not at fault for their actions. So light sentences were the norm. Kind of like the millennial and Genz didn't listen to the Boomer GenX and now cites are once again cesspools of humanity
Charles Bronson was a Hero. He grew up poor in agricultural America. The first time he ate 3 meals a day was after he joined the Army during WW2. He severed as a nose gunner in a B17. During one flight he was severely wounded bleeding profusely. He refused to leave his post and get aid until the plane was once again safe over the English channel. His Tombstone makes no mention of his time in Hollywood. It speaks only for his love of country and family.
I noticed through the movie franchise, Paul Kersey is either avenging someone who was killed by someone he cares about ( or in part 2. Someone he is a relationship with leaves him because of his vigilante justice)
My college friends and I decided to go see this in a theater when it came out. I was a little surprised. It was much more intelligent and interesting then I had expected.
Enjoyed your reaction to Death Wish. Yep, back in the 70's & 80's, crime in New York was really bad. It's not good now either. I'm a Charles Bronson fan. His persona in his films is not of a guy that talks smack or tries to be large and in charge. Instead, he's the strong silent type that carries a big stick, and will not hesitate to woop someone with it. Other good Bronson films: The Mechanic(which was re-made a couple of years ago starring Jason Statham. Good remake.). Also good, is Red Sun starring Bronson and Toshiro Mifune.
Nice to finally have a reaction to "Death Wish" we need more.
This movie is gonna be 50 years in July 24
Fianally someone is reacting to the best revenge movie ever made! Hope you watch them all.
27:46 ...'Grandpa' from the Munsters is the doorman.
Hell yes! Love the death wish movies! Always been more of a Bronson fan than Eastwood, but Eastwood is good too. The sequels are CRAZY. Part 2 is my favorite, but part 3 is absolutely insane
hey, first reactor ive seen do deathwish... congrats
Oh really? That's why I love our community. I can do whatever I want or you guys suggest. I never follow the crowd
You can also react to Charles Bronson's The Evil That Men Do, Death Wish 3 (the best one in my honest opinion) and also Kinjite. Most of these movies maybe a tad messed up but it's really entertaining but highly intriguing. I wish people would react more to his movies he's an icon in my eyes. It would be very funny and interesting to see people react to his movies because of the graphic nature and explicit content.
In the seventies usually only SWAT teams which were a new concept had bulletproof vests as standard issue and police vans weren't armored some just had armored panels at certain points.. That didn't start to change until criminals started to outgun the cops.
So many great Bronson movies, one of my all time favorites is “Hard Times “ saw at the theater, he played a barefist fighter during the depression, excellent movie thanks!
I want to thank you for being the first to do a review on this great movie ! We need a million Paul Kersey’s in today’s Society ! Please do reviews on the sequels ! I agree with you about the son in law ! Very irritating character !
All 5 Death Wish movies with Charles Bronson are great. I hope you react to all. However, my favorite Charles Bronson movie is MURPHY'S LAW. Trust me, you will love it!!
10 to Midnight is another great Bronson movie.
Crime in NYC is a hundred times worse now than it was then. Today
we'd need at least a dozen more Paul Kerseys to even make a dent.
It's actually the exact opposite. Compare the violent crime rate of NYU to Alabama or Mississippi. I dare you.
Also Once Upon a Time in the West, St. Ives, The White Buffalo, Breakheart Pass,
The Great Escape, and The Dirty Dozen
Such an underrepresented movie in reactions. Ironically still relevant
2:00 I visited friends in NYC just a few years after this movie and The French Connection were released. It still looked a lot like that in 1979. 21:55 You put a coin into the turnstile at the entrance to the subway station and it would open up and let you in and you could ride the trains wherever you needed to, change trains, until you got to where you were going, like from the Bronx to Long Island. You got your money's worth and more.
When I was a teen I always thought the son n law was a real wimp. I have since been more realistic and feel he was a good guy. I can't imagine having my wife go through what his wife went through, and the son n law feeling helpless and not being able to reach her. He was not a warrior, but that does not make him weak.
He's definitely justified and the sequels are great too.
The 4th is the best. If you don't want to see stomach turning violence like the first 2
Not only no cctv's but most pay phones on the street didn't work. and a lot of businesses wouldn't let you use their indoor phones because they didn't want to get involved.
Once you are on deck you can ride the subway all day
When seconds count the police are only minutes away.
That attack/rape scene traumatized me!
death wish 2 and 3 are worse..in the second one the R scene had to be cut many times... u see way more in the original scene bu it was far too graphic and disgusting
28:03 i always laugh at the way that cop says "Weird"
29:44 ohhhh thats the actor in LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS...still a riot that movie...best dark comedy/musical of the 80s
Can’t wait till you see the 2nd and 3rd
Just watched it for the first time in years. You read my mind
This movies a classic! Thanks for reviewing great movies dave
Re: Dad usage
It was pretty common in the 70s and before to refer to your MIL or FIL as “mom” and “dad.” It was to show respect and some degree of familiarity. My mom called her MIL “mom” even though her own mother was still living. But the script did overkill the usage in that early scene.
Interesting
I called my ex mother and father inlaw "mom" and "dad" but then I'm a boomer. Live in a college town and still even call the student s, yes "sir and "mam"
I too watched this movie about a week ago for the first time. The Tucson trip and connection to the guy who wrote the book and inspired the movie is important and the realtor gun advocate was the man who played Angel in Rockford Files is important and my favorite part in this movie.
You'll see it sets off Charles Bronson when he returns home.
A lot of his movies are on Prime and I've enjoyed every one of them.
Trump in 2015 during his legendary campaign made reference to this character and movie.
If you liked Desth Wish you should also watch Death Hunt. It is based on real life characters post WW1 and stars Lee Marvin and a young Carl Weather's alongside Charles Bronson. Great movie.
This is the film that inspired Bernard Geotz. The director Micheal Winner had to go on national TV and denounce vigilantism.
Great to see a reaction to Death Wish - wish more reactors would do it. The whole series is certainly worth checking out (there are 5 movies) and Charles Bronson always delivers. Other classic movies of his include 10 to Midnight, Murphy's Law and Mr Majestyk.
Just watched 10 to midnight. Insane! Going up on the channel soon..up on Patreon already
@@FlixTalk Awesome! A lot of his output is definitely worth watching and I have great memories of renting all his movies as they came out on video in the 80's and 90's. Guy is an icon.
its so crazy this is jeff goldblum's first role..he normally plays nice guys..the funny guy
10:57 He did use it just before this scene on the guy who tried robbing him.
He’s not exactly the punisher, but he’s getting there
Bronson was in about 90 films. Only about 16 i have not seen.
The 70s in nyc. Fear City
and chicago..mother of God both places were nightmares in the 70s and 80s...cesspool of crime
An interesting plot point...He never got the guys who attacked his wife and daughter.
Yeah I forgot to mention that! No your typical action revenge
You will have to watch the sequel's to find out if he does.
This week in 1974 the movie was released.
18:41 Not 100%, but I'm pretty sure that's Saul Rubinek. It looks like him, and it says so in the IMDb trivia for Death Wish V (he is in that movie as well), but I can't find any other confirmation of that. This movie is not in his IMDB filmography, and he's not credited in the movie itself.
The original is meant to be a serious critique on the uncontrollable crime in liberal cities (remember, it wasn’t until Giuliani became mayor that New York started improving, because Giuliani enforced the law).
While the sequels become exploitation films (I still love Death Wish 3 and 4), this, and not Jodi Foster’s “The Brave One” or the Bruce Willis remake of “Death Wish”, which gets guns, gun laws, and gun culture so wrong, it’s sad, this is the movie to watch.
So bad, so sad that Giuliani fell from enforcing the law to breaking the law and going broke on lawyers. put all your cards in with a narcissist, and win stupid prizes.

I see you're brainwashed by fake news. Let me guess you think Trump should be jailed.
@@stevenwoodward5923happens when you go against the regime, doesn't it?
If you liked this one there’s 6in total in the series they’re great
Flix Talk, I hope you watch the entire franchise. I believe in " Death Wish 3 he makes a pimp swallow his own watch, now it's been a while since I seen these movies I may be a number/ movie off.
I really want to! Ill check out the sequel for the channel as well
The movie is "Kinjite" where he made the pimp swallow his watch but I definitely understand the mix up. Death Wish 3 however is the best installment in the "Death Wish" franchise.
10:00 - Back in the 1960's and 1970's, it was customary for the son in law or daughter in law to refer to their spouse's parents as Mom and Dad as a term of respect. If you were to watch reruns of All In The Family, you'll find that Rob Reiner's character, Mike Stivik, calls his mother in law Ma, but he calls his father in law Archie. That's because he gets along with Edith, his mother in law, but not Archie. So Archie doesn't get the privilege of being called Dad or Pop.
It seems strange to us today, but that was the way things were done back then. Like asking a girl's parents for permission to propose to their daughter. These days, if you want to marry someone you just ask them. But back in the day you used to have to ask for her parent's blessing first.
The 1970’s were wild in nyc. You bought a token from a token booth n went through a turnstile to access the subway trains
charles is so fckin gangster in these movies..also i laughed as his guns get bigger each movie and by the third he has like a 44 magnum or something..he is apparently a bad ass irl too.. a military vet..vietnam i think
18:41 That is actor Saul Rubinek
Also watch The Mechanic, Mr Majestyk and Red Sun
Kbh! Thanks for the comment. I have the mechanic actually. Will do!
Gotta do, once upon a time in the west and the mechanic ! Great Bronson movies
16:25 one of those guys is a young Denzel Washington
was that officer that turned over the gun at the end to the captain, christopher guest?
It’s so strange that he never got hold of the thugs who raped his wife and daughter so him shooting other thugs made no sense whatsoever
If you're gonna react to "Death wish 2", try to get the "unrated version" because the second one was censored a lot
17:50 If only they put as much resources into finding the muggers as they did in finding the vigilante.......
The crime in the 1970's was pretty bad......ask yourself, what generation was this?
He calls Paul, dad, because he's his father in-law. Mr. Majestyk, 1974, in my opinion is Bronsons best movie.
You still can take firearms on planes. That is how people bring them places. You have to have them in multi locked certified cases, unloaded ,and in check baggage and declare it. Many competition shooters travel by plane state to state to do their competitions and bring their firearms and accessory equipment
Do II & 3!
That was awesome, thanx Flix!!! Jim Carrey used to do a hilarious Charles Bronson impersonation on In Living Color... maybe next Rumble
I'm live now..stop on by Rumble . Com / Flix Talk
If you like the 1974 original film please react to the sequels and remake
The scene on the subway is often used as a meme with Jason takes Manhattan
Inspired the Subway scene from The Joker (2018)
There's an hilarious mash up trailer called Jason Vs Kersey on youtube which features scenes from Manhattan and the other Friday movies mixed with ones from the Death Wish series.
@@tjtenser7828 I'll search it up. Thanks
22:00 - Yes, they did have forensics back in the 1970's. However, it was very rudimentary. Blood samples could tell you a person's blood type, for example, but the ability to match actual DNA wouldn't come around until sometime in the 1980's. Fingerprints have been a staple in forensics for ages. Even hair samples were useful, though in a very limited capacity. You could tell if the perpetrator had brown, black, blonde, or red hair, for example, but there was no way of matching a particular strand of blonde hair to a particular blonde suspect.
These days forensics are far more advanced, although not quite as advanced as they're made out to be on TV shows like Bones, CSI, and NCIS. Those shows are more science fiction than they are scientifically accurate.
I love this movie, don't agree with everything about it, they set up some blatant strawmen in it, but that doesn’t take away from my enjoyment.
By Death Wish 3, it gets really crazy and I’m all in for it.
But I really don't care for the movies past the third one. Death Wish 3 is the last of the films directed by the original director of the first movie. It's also the first in the series produced after the franchise was purchased by the notorious Cannon Films. These movies were never big budget projects but after the third one the movies feel cheap rather than low budget, there is a difference. It doesn't matter how crazy they get if it all feels so poorly done and just stupid. So I recommend the series up to Death Wish III but stopping there.
I know there was a remake with Bruce Willis simply called, again "Death Wish", but I haven't seen that one yet.
However, there was another (albeit loosely) remake with Jodie Foster called "The Brave One", it was pretty good, that movie I do recommend.
There's also the 1993 Michael Douglas movie "Falling Down" which has no connection to the Death Wish series, but still it feels somewhat like what Death Wish would be if it was made in 1993. I highly recommend that one.
Vincent Gardenia played the police inspectors. He is a great character actor. He's been in some movies but he's been in *A Lot* of television. He had a great recurring character on one of the best sitcoms of all time, "All in the Family". He was one of Archie Bunker’s neighbors.
He was also in the movie "Little Shop of Horrors" and great in that as well.
Best Regards!
Great trivia! Yes I've seen Falling Down and have a reaction for it on the channel. Fantastic film ! I have the sequels to Death Wish up to 4 but we'll see how far I get lol
@@FlixTalk I knew some reactors have done Falling Down and I've watched them and really liked the reactions...I just get confused now with who's done what movie and so on...my memory ain't what it used to be 😝
suggestion: a clockwork orange.. a demented masterpiece.... a clockwork karma more like it
Part two is really good and I think they actually did 34 and five and those become more cliché
Watch 10 to midnight
I'm New To Your Channel Good Movie Reaction 😊
Thank you! Welcome
@@FlixTalk 😊
Watch Charles bronson in kinjite forbidden subject
Has it been said early Jeff goldblum and Denzel Washington roles
I think you're thinking of Laurence Fishburne from Deathwish 2. Denzel wasn't in any of these
50 years and nyc went from crap to nice and back to crap
I saw this in the theater when it first came out, but if you like this movie then check out the movie "Super Cops"
Blood type but not dna, and fingerprints for forensic question
....but are you gonna watch all eight sequels : P
Lol you more 4 more...I plan to watch the next for the channel sure
The one thing I hate about this movie is this dippy son-in-law keeps calling him dad
That was fairly common back in those days. You don't marry your spouse, you marry the family
Two was good, other sequels got a little silly
4 was grounded. Yes part 3 was silly like a 70s grindhouse movie. Part 5 felt like a TV movie
Part 4 is my personal favourite in the series...
Nobody on CZcams has reacted to any Bronson movies that I'm aware of. He wasn't a fabulous actor but was pretty damn good for an action hero of the 70's and 80's. Would love you to delve into some if you haven't already seen them.:
1972 The Mechanic
1974 Mr Majestyk
1979 Love and Bullets
1980 Borderline
1988 Messenger of Death
bad actor Bronson is worth it.
Great! It is very interesting to see your reaction to the film Robocop 1987. This is a cool movie 👍🔥🦾
