- 25 मई 1981 को बांग्लादेश के राष्ट्रपति जनरल ज़ियाउर रहमान ने अपने सैनिक सचिव से कहा कि वो 29 मई को चटगाँव की यात्रा पर जाएंगे. इस फ़ैसले से सुरक्षा एजेंसियों की चिंता थोड़ी बढ़ गई क्योंकि जिस दिन ज़िया ने चटगाँव जाने का फ़ैसला किया, उसी दिन उन्होंने चटगाँव के जीओसी मेजर जनरल मोहम्मद अबुल मंज़ूर के ढाका तबादले के आदेश पर भी दस्तख़त किए. जनरल मंज़ूर को ये तबादला पसंद नहीं आया. हालाँकि उन्हें इस पद पर रहते साढ़े तीन साल हो चुके थे. उनके ज़ख़्मों पर नमक छिड़कते हुए जनरल ज़िया ने उन्हें ये भी कहलवा भेजा था कि 29 मई को जब वो पटेंगा हवाई अड्डे पर पहुंचे तो उन्हें वहाँ मौजूद रहने की ज़रूरत नहीं है. इसके लिए बहाना ये बनाया गया था कि राष्ट्रपति एक राजनीतिक यात्रा पर जा रहे हैं इसलिए जीओसी का हवाईअड्डे पर रहना ज़रूरी नहीं है. मंज़ूर ने जनरल ज़िया के इस निर्देश को अपनी निजी बेइज़्ज़ती के तौर पर लिया. इसके पीछे कुछ कारण भी थे. रेहान फ़ज़ल की विवेचना और दीपक जसरोटिया की वीडियो एडिटिंग.
