I just bought one for my 12yo son as a reward for getting to sub-30 ao5 (He's never worked this hard on anything in his life so I want to encourage him). If you have a cube you’re happy with, it’s not necessary to get the v9, but if you don’t or you really want to try I would get the ball-core version

How long have you been cubing for? How long did it take you to reach sub 10? I’ve been cubing for 7 months and I’m sub 12
cubing for 7 years, took me about a year and a half to get sub-10

depends on your turning style, I would say more aggressive is better for the YS3 and lighter is better for the v9
