- Dr. Ness is a frequent advisor to the National Institutes for Health, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, and the Department of Defense. She has taken part in several Institute of Medicine, National Academies' reports.
Dr. Ness is past-President of the American College of Epidemiology and has served as a member of its board of directors since 2004. In 2011 she became President-Elect of the American Epidemiological Society. Recently, she became the founding chair of the Joint Policy Committee of the Societies of Epidemiology - the first organization to coordinate joint policy actions among 14 epidemiology societies.
TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. Starting as a four-day conference in California 25 years ago, TED has grown to support those world-changing ideas with multiple initiatives. The annual TED Conference invites the world's leading thinkers and doers to speak for 18 minutes. Their talks are then made available, free, at TED.com. TED speakers have included Bill Gates, Al Gore, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Nandan Nilekani,Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Isabel Allende and UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown. The annual TED Conference takes place in Long Beach, California, with simulcast in Palm Springs.
TEDx: The x = independently organized event. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.
I started at 7:05p.m and ended at 7:16p.m. What will it take for us to let go of our idea of success so that we can be open to new ideas of innovation? Dr. Ness makes clear that innovation and creativity can be both innate as well as taught. She highlights that we must break frames, and that calls for change in how we think, the point of view that we hold, and how we filter information through our existing frames. I find it astounding that educationally there are gains in points on IQ, while there is a loss of points in creativity. I like how Dr. Ness melds science, cognition, and creativity. I like how she challenges us to "color outside the lines." I think her TED talk supports STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) programs in schools.
Steve Elderbrock - I began the lecture at 10:05 and ended at 10:21pm. The assertion that in order to innovate we must break frames reminded me of Christensen, who suggested something similar in terms of how managers had to rethink their strategies when confronted with disruptive technology - in other words, to embarce disruptive technology, managers must break their pre-existing frames. My question is how we as church leaders might help our parishioners learn to break their frames, given that the frames we are talking about are some of the most deeply held and deeply cherished beliefs.
Started lecture at 6:35pm and ended at 6:50pm. This is outstanding. This actually, in some small ways, answered some questions that I posed earlier. in viewing the frames that I have within my mind for how ministry should be online, it is imperative that I break some frames of my own. I need to ask myself, what are the frames that I have innately envisioned, and look at the creativity of what I have seen already on social media to creatively break those frames for innovation to occur.

Started watching 1:18pm ended at 1:35pm - I enjoyed this talk. One of the things Dr. Ness said that I want to highlight is that "frames define our thinking and are the set of expectations we use to interpret new information. As I ponder this notion, I am asking the question how can we utilize technology and the digital sphere to reshape or challenge societal frames and/or our religious contextual frames?
Blaine Hill. stated at 8:20 a.m. and finished at 8:40.What great illustrations to clarify a frame and illustrate their power. What are some frames that we need to be aware of in the church and how could we make them clear? For example, imagine coming to the next committee meeting and telling everyone to stand up, push their chairs back because we will stand for this meeting. Or scheduling the meeting to begin 30 minutes before worship, thus giving a true hardstop to the meeting.
Started lecture on 11/27/2023 @ 6:05PM and Completed at 6:51PM. Innovation can be taught and learned by students. This is all about perspective and the ability to want to learn and be willing to engage in discussion, conversation, and discovery.
I began the lecture at 12:21 p.m. and ended at 12:40. The idea of "breaking frames" really resonated with me. Braking a frame certainly creates visceral and powerful reactions in the church! As we hear in the talk, this is not an easy thing to do. What are some ways to "practice" frame breaking in the church setting?
Alex Evangelista. Finished at 1:57pm. The idea of frames really stood out to me since it was clearly shown that frames are really ubiquitous! I didn't guess fish! One question I have is, what are some tools in clearly identifying frames, in addition to now misidentifying them?

Well said; this closing statement struck a personal chord, as a self taught artist who was told they could never learn to draw if they struggle to color in the lines in youth. :')
