  • Had another great chat with The Boyce of Reason, the one and only Benjamin 'Boycey' Boyce. This time we discussed the life and times of Alexander Hamilton. One of the most pivotal Founding Fathers, and whether you like or loathe his world view and politics, you can't deny he had an action packed life, and had a massive impact on the United States and the trajectory it ultimately took.

You're one of my favorite history enthusiasts, I always enjoy your talks, guests, and topics. I must've listened to your chats with Carl a dozen times. Your history content on Lotus Eaters is well worth the money!

An extraordinary man and great founding father. I don't agree with all his goals but, no denying his impact and success.

A couple of things: Hamilton went overboard in his Maria Reynolds affair pamphlet mainly because it was implied in the newspaper hit pieces that he used public funds to pay the blackmail. That was more wounding to him than the cheating allegation. Also, in my view, the Virginian faction's hatred for Hamilton was stoked not only by his fiscal policies, but perhaps at least equally because he was heavily involved in anti-slavery movements--he was a member of the New York manumission society (founded by John Jay).

The accusation of not being a great American is worthless coming from Woodrow Wilson.

He taught himself French. He must be a genius!!!
I learned German, English and Chinese (Native Danish). No one consider me a genius. 😅

Yes, Hamilton won in the end, but in doing so Jefferson has been proven right.

Thanks Hamilton for the overreaching centralized government and bloated bureaucracies we enjoy today.

Beau is wrong about the Articles of Confederation. Look up Shay's rebellion and the real reasons why it happened. We fought a revolution over taxation and our rights only for people like Hamilton to do the exact thing the British were doing the very first chance he got.

I say all of that about taxation and Hamilton's views. 'No taxation without representation'... What did I get wrong about the Articles of Confederation? I do hate to get facts wrong.

@@HistoryBro that it wasn't thought to be enough. It wasn't enough for people like Hamilton who wanted centralized power. The fact he opposed the Bill of Rights initially tells you what you need to know about Hamilton. The Civil War is like the culmination of this debate.
