That's why Sans told you to "keep on pretending to be a human" in Snow Forest. He knows the monster that you are.
That should be a line in Undertale.
What made this fight so interesting to me is that Sans is fully aware that he is doomed. He knows no matter how hard he tries or how much he throws at the player, they’ll just come back for more. He isn’t fighting to save his ass; he couldn’t care less about that. He’s fighting because he can’t stand by and knowingly let you through just because fighting is futile. He’s fighting because he “can’t afford to not care anymore” and that is powerful.
Also, he can’t afford not to care anymore because he knows that if he lets you pass him, then you will do something unamendable. (Like destroying the timeline)

The reason the devs gave sans only 1hp, 1atk, and 1def is because they knew that's all he'd need to kick your ass. Beware the silly ones indeed.

my favorite thing about Undertale is that they give you the best armor and the best weapon in the game, only to have a boss that ignores your armor by doing one damage quickly and dodges your attacks

I hacked the Locket and Real Knife into my inventory early, and the thing is.
You can only really TAKE one damage with the Locket. Undyne's chase sequences do the most damage at a whopping three. Undyne the Undying can be killed in five or so hits with the Real Knife.
But Toby, the beautiful, trolling genius he is, uses that to his advantage. Sans does only one damage, ignores i-frames, and is hard as fuck to hit.

Ever notice how Sans’s theme seems to be the only boss theme without a clear end? Bonetrousle, Death by Glamour, Bergentruckung, etc. all have a point where the song fades away completely and has to start over from the beginning. But Megalovania doesn’t; it just kinda keeps going until it gets back to the loud part again.
Maybe I’m either reading too much into it or pointing out the obvious, but I feel like it represents how Sans is the only boss that you just can’t seem to hit, and after a while it feels like the battle has been going on forever - you can’t remember when it started and you don’t know when it’ll end. Idk, I like to think of it that way

I think the genocide run was pretty good, too. I especially enjoyed the fight with Sans. In fact, I was a little disappointed that I didn't get to fight many of the other characters, since they died so fast.
ThatGuy I can never do a geno run. no matter how hard I try, I just love the characters way too much and it really goes against how I act, in every game I play like this I always try to spare people, I even tried it in skyrim when they begged for mercy when I first played..
Sans Yeah, I kind of get it. I used to be like that to certain extent, too.
I still recommend at least trying to play it. If I understood right, you can spare some of the main characters. You just have to kill all the enemies from random encounters.
ThatGuy No, it has to be a purge if you want to get the true hell ending, and most of the characters are one hit kills afterwards too, but you have to hit NEO Mettaton directly otherwise you get the neutral ending.

The word "overrated" holds no real meaning as a proper argument towards why you shouldn't like something.
Which is why, after all this time, after all the covers, parodies, memes and everything beyond... I still love the hell out of this song. I genuinely don't feel like I'll ever get sick of it. It's still just as hype-inducing as it was 7 years ago.
This song is great, I don't think anybody is or can really say otherwise. But it's definitely at least to some capacity overrated.

Imagine the pain the monsters go through when you kill them. In just two hits with a plastic toy, you've sliced clear through a monster. Think about it. How much force would it take to put a fake weapon through you?
How hard would you have to punch someone to kill them on impact?
How much would it hurt (and not just Undyne) that their brightest symbol of hope was beaten to death with ballet shoes?
Sans won't fight you unless you've left him no other choice. In some neutral routes, he won't even let you back underground. ("Anyways, never come back. You're not welcome here.")
He never made the promise to protect you in genocide, and do you know why? Because you killed Toriel. You killed one of the only monsters who wanted you to live.
And, no, it wasn't Chara's fault. Did Chara push the button? Did Chara sit there for hours, mindlessly murdering everyone in the underground? No. That was you.
Chara is the spectator. The player did it out of curiosity to see what they might get. And when it was too late... Chara then took over.
At least that's how I see it.
Chara gave you the choice. You have the power to decide if Frisk or Chara wins the battle of wills.
Without Chara, Frisk's attacks would work like Papyruses, and would only be useful for proccing Spares and fighting Asgore and Flowey.
Don't forget that Chara is an evil psychopath who faked her love for the Dreemurr family for power. Asriel himself tells you.
Addendum: In the Mac version, Frisk has Chara's reflection in genocide runs - and in all versions, her narration changes when you look in a mirror. That is now Chara's reflection, not Frisk's.
Finally someone understands that chara isn't the villain! :D

This boss battle was just the ultimate showdown, it symbolises how you have done something terrible, and you must atone for your sins, it also makes you realise that sans isn’t a “lazy bones” he’s just depressed because he knows that no matter what he’s doing or will do, it will all be reset
He’s the opposite of jevil, who is also a joker, but because he knows the world is a game, he thinks “nothing matters, so what’s to stop me?” While sans thinks “nothing matters, so why tryin’?”

Sans is one of the greatest game characters in Gaming History. His acting, his comedy, his battle, everything is so amazing. His reactions and friendship literally feel like you are talking to a real life friend. No game could create this feeling aside from undertale...

This fight shows a lot about how admirable Sans’ character really is. Initially he comes across as this all knowing guy with a plan from start to end but based on the neutral endings he’s actually pretty selfish, only really caring when Toriel/Papyrus dies. When he fights you near the end of genocide he’s not just doing it for the sake of the few monsters that are left, but also for the sake of humanity, rather than the only two monsters that he ever really cared about before that. So him finally choosing to fight you (in a battle he knows he can’t win) shows a turn to selflessness that he doesn’t show anywhere else in the game in my opinion.
If you kill toriel and papyrus but spare one monster he doesn’t fight you. He is not selfish at all, he has to hold back after you kill everyone.

sans is a selfish character; he isn’t malicious, and he certainly cares for others. however, he’s so consumed by an insurmountable apathy and impotency that he would rather wallow in it, than actively and futily intervene with current affairs. his call to action at the end of the genocide route is definitely a turnaround for his character, as he’s been given so much reason to care, that he has to fight you, simply because he can’t afford to do nothing, even if it will *mean* nothing

It might be right, it might be wrong, it's still selfish. That's not a bad thing, that's a character flaw. He might even be right in recognizing it's pointless and so choosing not to do anything, that doesn't change the morality of it.
What changes in Genocide is that it's STILL hopeless, still pointless, and he still can't stop you, but when all bets are off and the chips are finally down he decides to try anyway even if it's hopeless and he can't do anything. That's selfless of him.
I love how sans is that mysterious character that is ultimately a prankster but knows what's going on. He can't do the things that frisk and flowey can do but he understands how they work and can manipulate frisk accordingly. But then there are moments when he just acts like a normal character but you don't trust it. You feel like he knows way more than he's letting on. He's a very well written character

Astroxy Well these assembly's music is often decided by a school counsel which is comprised of volunteered students so it's not too surprising when you take _that_ into consideration. The school probably just stops a track from coming in only if it's deemed inappropriate I guess. And it was halloween enough so I guess that helped, they also played the Doctor Who theme right before it, so that's why it threw me off, I mean I like DW personally, but I knew they could play DW because it's over 50 years old, the school would know what it is. But Megalovania is from a game that on Halloween was merely over a month old by then. Also my school is in Canada so our standards may be more open, also again, student counsel.

Devin Craig It was originally titled: "Doctor Andonuts' Rage" in the Halloween hack, so I highly doubt it. The Homestuck version was named Megalovania though.

Something I noticed in the Genocide run...
Everyone else like Undyne and Asgore, they're trying to stop the villain your playing as, Chara.
But Sans, he's different. He's not here to stop Chara, he's here to stop YOU. He makes you rage quit, reset, do all these things. In Sans eyes, he's fighting and infinite being that always comes back, but that won't stop him. He'll keep kicking your ass until you kill him or he kills your ability to keep trying.

Pretty sure if you try your heart can't move the box. Saw a video where someone appeared to try to move the box in other directions, but it'll only move right and down. Maybe you can move it over the ACT command, although that won't do much, since you can only check Sans' stats from there.

Reality: A deep character that is hinted to be suffering with deep depression, and openly admits that if he hadn't made a promise to someone he cares about you would be dead where you stand. During his battle he uses all of his energy to stop you, even though he knows that you will come back. He wants to make you quit the game to prevent this from being completed, and even in a Pacifist run he seems so nonchalant about finally being freed from the underground, because he knows it's all fake, and he knows you'll just start all over again, and he can do nothing to stop you except give you the hardest battle in the game to make you quit from frustration, if only to keep the ones he loves alive a little while longer.

Y’know, as much as this song has been memed to hell and back, I still thing it is a genuinely good final boss theme. Not only are you fighting the most powerful enemy in the game (aside from Chara), you are fighting someone who is willing to lay down his life for his friends and his home, and he is NOT going down without a fight. You are on the brink of becoming the most powerful being in the world, and this skeleton is the only one in your way, and he has nothing left to lose.

The best part about this fight is the fact that, Sans knows his world has no future, he's fighting to make you give up and reset so that things could be different. That's where he differs from Undyne, she fights to save the entire world, but Sans fights so there will be another world even if he can't live to see it. This is Sans giving up as always
I've kind of made a theory as to why Sans is so powerful and all-knowing(= (and by that i mean he knows about your power to reset, save, and he also remembers more after a reset.) If you find the key to Sans's workshop, you can find out that he has a scientific background, which is how he knows Alphys. (this part is almost 100% speculation) He's done research on things like determination(the power that lets you pursue after death, and in Frisk's case, the ability to save, load, and reset.), KR (Karma, the poison-like effect that happens when you get hit by Sans; which also eliminates invincibility frames.), and even the resetting and the loading. This is how he can deal 1 damage 20 times in half a second, and also how he knows about your determination (we know this because of his battle dialogue.) This is why he is one of the deepest and most powerful characters in Undertale.
I think being statistically the weakest enemy in the game carries a lot of symbolism, as well as adding to his badass factor.
If you think about it, the only way you get to level up is killing enemies. I feel he may have charmed his way through life instead, never needing to kill anyone up until now.
However, he's smart. He actively avoids your attacks, uses poison, and *actually takes advantage of his low attack power* to hit you continuously without activating your invincibility frames. He's capable of putting up more of a fight than any other enemy in the game, because he doesn't need power. He knows how to use it.
He's gotten this far without levelling up once. So, the big question is...
*What would happen if he could be bothered to train?*
edit: I'm not saying it's actual poison, I was just comparing it to poison because it works that way in observable application irregardless of whatever it needs or doesn't need to achieve that effect on the main character. I can say with a garruntee that it works LIKE poison in the one time we see it in action and that is a constant, regardless of whether it's actual poison, or some kind of allignment based accumulation of the recipient's sins.
And I'm really sorry for being a killjoy, but, please, there could be many, many more things to talk about and speculate on here. I would idealy love to join in with people in this comment thread but it's difficult to find something that isn't that same "correction", which I've talked about already.
