  • In this video, I show you the entire process of creating a Kontakt Sample Library in four steps:
    1. 00:35 - Recording
    2. 01:33 - Noise Reduction (using iZotope RX), Editing & Chopping (using Reaper)
    3. 10:09 - Sample Layout
    4. 20:38 - and finally: Music
As part of the video, I sample a Kalimba I found in a thrift store and turn it into a Kontakt Library.
The Kalimba Kontakt Library can be downloaded here: www.decentsamples.com/product...

There is an SWS action called "Split items at transients" in Reaper. There's also "Auto trim/split items (remove silence)", where you can determine what should be considered silence (so it doesn't have to be actual silence). Or you can easily write a custom action that does even more for you. No need to do it all manually!
And the grouping functionality also keeps your files aligned to each other, which is a blessing when you have to edit recordings done with multiple microphones.
Thank you so much for your tutorials!

I struggled with work computers from the first days c. 1990. I felt like the last dinosaur looking at the first mammal.
Your fluidity with the software is awesome!
Adobe Illustrator and PhotoShop set the bar! Revolutionary, in fact. They re-thought what it is to draw, and to digitize the darkroom.
BTW, I took an electronic music with Shep Shapiro at Brown U. back in the day. We had an oscillator that made 3 different sound waves, a keyboard, and 1/2" reel-to-reel tape recorder. That was it!
