    Bitwig's editing functions are great. Thanks a lot! I came up with a feature idea for the audio editing panel. It's a ScratchPad section on top, where you could temporarily place samples while you rearrange the loop.

    It doesn't make sense to me that arrows & Alt+arrows have their function swapped between Arranger and Detail editor.
    I think arrows alone should always change the selection, and Alt+arrows should always move. Consistence is important in a UI.

  • @LTDudzek
    @LTDudzek Před 4 měsíci +12

    I'm confused as to why using arrow keys with no modifier moves objects and with modifier changes the selection, but then in the clip editor window it's the opposite? Why did they make it like that, seems like more to remember when working and will feel less intuitive since you can't just rely on muscle memory

      If bitwig had video support and better piano roll/midi writing/editing features it would be the best DAW by far. Drives me crazy that they keep focusing on nerdy stuff like the grid rather than just locking in the basics.

      @RhymeByRhyme Před 3 měsíci +2

      @@ggeessttaalltt 100%! I've been bitching about this very issue since version 3. Bitwig needs more shortcuts, less mousing around, video tracks (or one type of tracks for everything a la reaper) and frame-based timeline asap! Ideally, I think they should think about creating a system to work between the daw and middleware softwares like wwise too (like you can do in Reaper and Nuendo).

  • @sternenherz
    @sternenherz Před 4 měsíci +4

    Really nice, i love that you adress QoL things!
    It would be absolutely awesome, when
    a) the playbackbar itself could be moved via Arrow-Keys, jumping from beatcount to beatcount, after having clicked on the beat-time-ruler at the top of the Arranger/Editor.
    b) the new "Time Range Cursor" could optionally be coupled with the playback bar position, so that Play-From-Cursor finally would be possible in Bitwig.
    @2:00 when deleting Automation Points, the Automationlane gets out of focus, and has to be accessed/focused via mouse-clicking again. It would be nice when instead of getting out of focus, the time-range-cursor appears right at the deletion-spot.

    Great update, thanks! I'm wondering though if the inversion of keyboard shortcuts, when working on clips VS when working on audio or note events, could create some confusion.
    For example:
    - Left arrow on a clip selects the next clip on the left, while on an audio event, it moves the event.
    - Alt + left arrow on a clip moves the clip, while on an audio event, it selects the next clip on the left.

It’s one thing that (for me) is missing, as most other DAWs sampler’s timestretch in real time, like Quick Sampler in Logic and Simpler in Live. I hope this is taken in the spirit that I intend it: watching this, I felt that Bitwig is getting a bit “Reaper-y”. I love the power and insane potential of Reaper, but using it doesn’t feel like a fluent, natural process unless you’ve reeeeeally put in the time. I worry this feels a bit like that: powerful, but not fluent. I so want Bitwig to be “the Ableton that could have been”, but I think it’s still a work in progress. I think some of the complexity needs to be extrapolated away to make way for a natural flow of operation.

    • @atetraxx
      @atetraxx Před 3 měsíci

      Lol what? In what world does adding better editing functionality make it more like reaper. That's just weird.
      Bitwig is NOT ableton, nor are they trying to be like them, nor should they. You'd be best off if you get that notion out of your head. You'll never be happy thinking like that.
      Also, there's nothing not fluent natural process about these new features. They are very natural. So natural in fact that i intuitively knew how to use them after just one session. They are standard audio, video, and graphic editing style features so if you do those things they are extremely natural.
      Ableton to me is much less natural.

    As is happening in other Daws:
    Add AI such as:
    -ADD the option in the track the option to separate
    an audio track with its instruments
    such as. Drums, vocals, bass, piano, etc.
    (STEMS SPLIT) or (GENERATE STEMS)
    Other updated daws have added this
    option, such as
    -Logic-11
    -Tracktion Waveform
    -Audacity
    All these daws have already added the option.
    There is a plugin called (Openvino) that allows you to add

    Aber ... Bitwig hatte noch gewissermaßen den "Trumpf", behaupten zu können, das käme, da ich Bitwig Studio als *deb Paket installiere, das ja - offiziell - ausschließlich Ubuntu unterstützt.
    Nun haben ich mir die Arbeit mal spaßeshalber gemacht und (das eigentlich von mir "verbannte" Flatpak und danach die Flatpak-Variante von) Bitwig Studio 5.2 Beta 3 als installiert. Auch - natürlich - die Installation von den Vulkan- Zusätzen ... fand statt - wie ja erwartet.
    Und was geschah? 😂🤣😂 Die Maschine hat nach Aufruf des aus dem Flatpak installierten Bitwig Stuidio - wie auch das Debian-Paket in _ i d e n t i s c h e r _ Weise - den Flashscreen gezeigt, dann geschah (optisch zumindest) für einige Sekunden gar nichts - und danach beide Monitore schwarz, auf einem ein an der linken oberen Ecke positioniertes Rechteck in der Größe des Flashscreens in Schwarz und der Rest des Schirms mit vielen dünnen senkrechten türkis-farbenen Linien bedeckter Schirm bedeckt... und dann... ein Re-Boot.
    Also kann auch Flatpak das Problem nicht beheben und der von Bitwig verweigerte Support kann gerne da bleiben wo er ist.
    Die Behauptung von Bitwig, das Flatpak sei weniger "Problem-behaftet", kann ich somit definitiv _ n i c h t _ bestätigen und ... so lange dies so bleibt, bleibe ich weg von jeder Lizenz. Denn wie schon einmal gesagt: Ich weigere mich, einen Rechner so zu kaufen/umzubauen, dass er - und das auch nur _ h o f f e n t l i c h _ - zu Bitwig Studio kompatibel ist, _ d e n n _ Vulkan wird auf diesem meinem Rechner von Spielen fehlerfrei benutzt - nur eben nicht von Bitwig Studio!
    Tja... tolle Entscheidung, Bitwig! Ich hoffe, diese Aktionen lohnen sich für's Geschäft und ich hoffe, für alle die, die das "Boot verlassen", finden sich gleich viele Andere, die es auch wieder betreten und sich nicht an den weniger begeisterten Kommentaren stören (die bekanntlich mit der Zeit zunahmen... - jetzt eben auch durch mich).

    Need to lose the “detail editor” for audio editing. It’s an extra step that destroys workflow and doesn’t work in the real world where we need to edit all day for a living. I would be purchasing Bitwig NOW without it. At least offer a way to disable it. I watched this video just to see if you did away with that nonsense workflow impediment. Guys, it’s not an intuitive workflow and while your programmers may like it, real world pros can’t take this program seriously. This program is so good otherwise, I want to switch from Ableton. But Ableton allows me to edit in the timeline without requiring the secondary edit box.

      lol. you're nuts. the detail audio editor is one of the best things about bitwig. it will never go away. You're not using it correctly, its not ableton buddy. stop trying to use it like ableton.

      @@darkjord5823 no. I have been a full time audio pro for over 33 years. I work 7 days a week. I am expert level on every daw out there. The audio editor is 🗑️ trash. I literally spent the last 9 hours working on today’s production, editing. I’m not going to argue with a novice who has no understanding of a high volume professional production workload.

      @@darkjord5823I have been working on audio editing in Bitwig since I posted this comment. It is an amazing and powerful audio editor panel. I still need Studio One to work fast for several reasons. If I can get myself to for Bitwig into my workflow using shortcuts or just thru practice I’m going to try. Love this program otherwise.
