You need to learn what key your sample is in and stick to it. That's a rookie mistake thousands of producers find trouble in doing. Them square basses dont fit and are out of key and the looped sample could be a lot better in my opinion. Its good practice to write some filtered MIDI pianos if you want to get the 808Melo sound. Don't rely on samples to make it sound great.

for the slicex part do you just choose a random chop and hope for the best? no offence
choose a sample loop a part of that sample you like. drag into slicex and play around until you find a rhythm that sounds nice.
