This summer I will be thru-hiking the Tahoe Rim Trail, and in this video I cover how I’m planning my trip. Please subscribe to help support my channel! #tahoerimtrail
Living near Sacramento, I feel blessed that I live close enough to visit the Tahoe area more often. Our family did a backpacking trip in Desolation the 2nd week of August and the snow wasn't bad at all. It was mostly on the high peaks with a few small patches to cross here and there. Mosquitos were worse than normal for August because of the late snow melt, but the wildflowers were AMAZING! Hope you have a wonderful trip!
That is awesome that you have these amazing places so close! I was a week or two behind you in the Desolation Wilderness. Mosquitos were definitely a challenge in a few spots, but it was otherwise absolutely beautiful!
@@give.me.wilderness...the mosquitos around Lake Aloha were manageable on our trip, but at Gilmore Lake, I was referring to them as the spawns of Satan...LOL! On another note, I really do LOVE your videos. I originally found you from your JMT videos. Your very soft spoken and calm demeanor is wonderful, and I appreciate how much of the scenery that you show. JMT is on my bucket list, and I've been on portions of it here and there, particularly in Yosemite. Life's schedule makes it difficult to hike all in one shot right now, but some day. Hoping to hike some sections in the mean time. Next summer is Tuolumne Meadows to Reds Meadow, if the permits come through. Happy Trails!
@@karencaskey6210For me the mosquitos were between Middle Velma Lake and Richardson Lake; your description of them felt accurate! 😂 I stopped for water in that stretch and they even swarmed my backpack. Thank you for watching the JMT videos and for the kind words! It’s really nice to hear. Tuolumne - Red’s Meadow is a really great section. I love Donahue Pass and all the lakes shortly after. Good luck on the permits!
I would recommend it! Beautiful trail! The dry stretches along the east side of the lake were a challenge, but hopefully they get the water pump fixed for future years at Marlette Peak Campground and that would make things much easier.
It sounds like a good plan. Thanks for sharing and good luck getting that permit. 🤞 I have been backpacking in the Northeast for about 6 years now and would like to venture out West. This sounds like a nice trail to get my feet wet. Ironic, because it's mostly desert climate. 😅 As a bonus, I have a cousin who lives in Sparks, so I could stay there on day 1 and the last day.
Thanks! I also spent several years backpacking in the Northeast before going out West. I would definitely recommend it, the drastic differences between the two really helps me appreciate them both! Yosemite was my first experience backpacking out West and it just blew me away!
For this trail I used both the FarOut App and the TRT website. The website contains lots of good information and you can also download some fairly detailed maps. The FarOut app is great for planning days and mileage, and also shows some of the side trails. It's also very helpful when actually on trail.
Any luck getting that thru hike permit? Been trying myself today to no avail. Leaving messages but no return call. No panic yet as I still have 10 days or so before leaving.
I was able to get a permit. I left a vm with my info and they called back a couple hours later. Hopefully you hear back soon. Good luck and maybe I’ll see you out there!
Possibly although we don't start until the 28th from Echo Lakes heading CCW saving Desolation Wilderness for last. Provided we gain that thru hike permit otherwise like you mentioned would have to hike right through which would be unfortunate. @@give.me.wilderness

Wow, sounds like an incredible trip. Seems like you’ve got a good lay the land. Looking forward to seeing some videos of your hike!
Thank you! It should be a great hike! : )
Nicely done! I want this trail!

What was the app you're using that shows various trail diversions? Any trail map so recommendations for planning?
