My dad told me, once I started(Very first started, before I knew of this album) that I was born the year this album came out... I dismissed it with an apathetic "Cool"... And now I see why he said that, this is amazing, it's an honor to have been born that year, to be able to share my birth with the release of The Division Bell. I am 17, and I love Pink Floyd, their instrumentals, their vocals, they're too great, too glorious to explain with words. R.I.P Syd, and Richard, you will be remembered.
If I'm not mistaken, this song is about descending into and recovering from depression. Battling mental illness is a recurring theme in a lot of Pink Floyd's music. I imagine that's a nod to Syd Barrett, God rest his soul. Amazing that he was with the band only three years, yet his influence and memory lived on with them throughout the life time of Pink Floyd.
I came to your comment accidentally while i am having a bad time, dunno if this is classified as depression, but it is taking repulsion from social contacts, and subtle fear of not to be adequate to others and to future. I thought this song through the text and the atmosphere was the right one to play in this moment. Thanks!
The realest shit I've ever heard in my entire life I no longer smoke a single gram without David Gilmours amazing guitar roger's brilliant poetic lyrics or Richards mind blowing keyboard skills and lets not forget nick masons fantastic drumming!
Division Bell is such an underappreciated album. David Gilmour once expressed the sentiment that The Daark Side of the Moon was almost too good for their own good. It wound up overshadowing some of their other excellent work. I think Division Bell falls into that category.
i definately agree, i was just thinking that as i listened to division bell and endless river this song in particular strikes a chord with me its a fantastic song problably up there with "time" on my scale i guess

i love one thing about this song, it's really quiet and calm and when it gets to the chorus it stays quiet but in my head it's like shouting INSIDE OUT and the sound is amazing
The arrangement of this song is mind blowing. The intro sax and the female background singers are sublime. This is one of the most beautiful piece of music ever written. I can never get over its beauty. Just flattens me.
Ah, this song is an eternal companion of my sadness and loneliness. Gossebumps everytime I hear it. I don't know how to describe it, but all Pink Floyd songs feel kinda "cold" to me. Whenever I listen to them I start getting this frosty feeling, like it's early spring and I'm standing in my underwear on the street with wind piercing my body. I mostly listen to Pink Floyd when I'm depressed and these songs seem to dive to the very depths of my sorrow, but in the end they make me feel better. Perhaps I just become emotionally overloaded and my brain just clears all the emotions out, leaving me in calmness and harmony, or perhaps it's because after listening to these songs I feel somehow compassioned in my sorrow and it calms me. Either way this one is my second best sad song after Eagles - Desperado. Just wanted to share some thoughts...
It was nice reading your comment because you almost entirely described how I feel while listening to them. Depression and sorrow flows through the songs but afterwards I feel better than I felt before. I think that PF helped me from becoming extremely introvert. I can talk to people now more freely. :D
Listen to "Coming Back To Life" and "Echoes". Those two tracks brought me hope. I still get bummed, but people who suffer from depression are usually much more sensitive than others. Nobody who has not suffered from it understands how truly paralyzing it can become. You should not allow people in your life who who are mean to you and bring up bad things from the past. They are poison. I am an Empath, a psychic and a Sensitive. It is no picnic sometimes. Take care and if you want to talk with me, just let me know.
The Madcap If your comment reffers to me, than it's not that bad after all. I mean yeah, my beloved moves away from the country with the other guy she chose as her love interest over me, I barely know what my future is going to be due to uncertainty, my health isn't top notch and money situation is not that great at all, BUT! Me and my beloved...well, we had our story going for a long time with loads of beautiful and sad moments we shared and I believe her when she says she will remeber those, we still mean a lot to each other and she's probably the one who supports me the most apart from my family. Then I got some ambitions and some amazing people around believing in my bright future, I got all my legs, arms, both eyes, ears and most importantly my brain all right. In the end, I'm not living in a cardboard box, so things are going pretty good. Just gotta fight bad thoughts and keep spending time with good people around, it helps a ton. P.S. Got our favourite song with that lady..."Englishman in New York", gotta make her a goodbye gift and write down a little poem. Have to connect the gift to the song, already have some ideas. I say It's those things, those feelings that inspire you to do something unique and beautiful that make the time of our lives being somewhat exciting. P.P.S. Cheers to you, wish you a lot of great moments and inspiring music in your life!
Brian Holmes "The dark side of the moon" is one of my most favourite albums, but thanks anyway. Actually, I love all of Pink Floyd's albums, even "The Division Bell", although many consider it worse than the others. "High Hopes", "Wearing the inside out" and "Lost for words" give me goosebumps everytime.
This song perfectly describes the depths of PTSD. It could well have been written by any one of the millions of VN Vets. It just makes me cry when I look into old friend's eyes and see them empty.
The lyrics are truly words from the heart. In a way, this song is a reminder that how you feel on the inside, over time, begins to show on the outside. Pessimistic thinking can truly wear you out from the inside out.
"Wearing The Inside Out" From morning to night I stayed out of sight Didn't recognize I'd become No more than alive I'd barely survive In a word...overrun Won't hear a sound (he's curled into the corner) From my mouth (but still the screen is flickering) I've spent too long (with an endless stream of garbage to) On the inside out (curse the place) My skin is cold (in a sea of random images) To the human touch (the self-destructing animal) This bleeding heart's (waiting for the waves to break) Not beating much I murmured a vow of silence and now I don't even hear when I think aloud Extinguished by light, I turn on the night Wear its darkness with an empty smile I'm creeping back to life My nervous system all awry I'm wearing the inside out Look at him now He's paler somehow But he's coming round He's starting to choke It's been so long since he spoke Well he can have the words right from my mouth And with these words I can see Clear through the clouds that covered me Just give it time then speak my name Now we can hear ourselves again I'm holding out (he's standing on the threshold) For the day (caught in fiery anger) When all the clouds (and hurled into the furnace) Have blown away (he'll curse the place) I'm with you now (he's torn in all directions) Can speak your name (and still the screen is flickering) Now we can hear (waiting for the flames to break) Ourselves again

One of the most amazing songs i've ever heard. Im a Pink Floyd fan, let alone Gilmoure huge fan. SO HOW COME I'VE HAVENT HEARD THIS SONG YET? ITS AMAZING.
This song has some of my favourite lyrics of all time, the very part where two seperate verses are being sung one line after the other, and the way the two verses are two different outcomes: In one he gets better, in the other he kills himself. And you never know, and will never know which one is true. I think its such a fantastically clever idea.
Wow, I had goosebumps throughout the whole song. One does not simply listen to Pink Floyd, one has experiences which makes life so worth living. This is as good as it gets.
I always look at this song as what someone with depression is feeling. The loneliness of everything going on inside you and feeling scared to communicate with someone, anyone on the outside.
Eternaly underrated album and song due to it being a rogerless production, but for those of us who love gilmour it's great to hear him freed from the shackles. This solo along with the poles apart solo have all the gutsy-mellow-heartwarming-power that make him the king of the strat!
I have been in the place that this masterpiece describes. It almost killed me. It's our duty to have empathy for our loved ones and help them to find their way out of the darkness. Richard Wright put into words and such beautiful, beautiful music what I never could at that lonely, dark four years of my life. Thank you Richard Wright! You Shine On! 💎💎💎💗💗💗✌🌞
This is a great song, but it is nowhere close to Pink Floyd at their best. That would be Pompeii version of Echoes or Shine on you crazy diamond or atom heart mother or Dark side of the moon or MORE!!!
Man, Richard kills the composition on this one.. although Division Bells is without Roger, I love the Gilmour that bleeds from the melodic guitar in each tune. Chill saxophone, so smooth... rock on Floyd!
I’ve been listening to Pink Floyd since 1975, this is my absolute favorite, Richard makes gold her, i have many favorites of PF, but this is special! Davids solo is as always top notch, and the chemistry between David and Richard is pure magic!
So loved...held in my heart til we meet on the dark side of the moon! You are missed more than anyone will ever know. I keep you locked in my heart forever. I miss you...
I dropped a tab of double dipped paper 2 days ago and my friend suggested me to play this song during our trip and as I was watching the vivid paintings of salvador dali I came across the warped watch figures and I suddenly lost sense of time it was as if time never existed and felt like I'm living in this song and the pictures and had one of the most intense acid experiences of my life!
When i look the comments under PINK FLOYD songs and find out there are many people who are feeling same things and thinking like me ,i am feeling very good :))
I probably listen and/or watch this video multiple times a day. It was almost genius to pair two of the greatest artists who themselves reinvented what was the stale norms of conformity.
This is my favorite from the Division Bell album... musically, lyrically, vocally, and in terms of the whole sonic atmosphere. The song's subject matter particularly resonates with me.
+maverick7376 music is art. it has no meaning.... it just means what your heart feels and gives to it. to me, the song talks about being an introvert, about recluding in your own and facing the world that way.... why would that be depressing? we the introverts CHOOSE that life. we get bored about people around. we prefer our own. no one made me apart i just choose that. it never made me felt sad or depressed, i dont find sadness in isolation, i find myself. This song is an amazing musical arrangement. Listen instead of hearing... it is a really relaxing song and great piece of art. so chill, so smooth, so peaceful.
Wrote this on my Facebook wall last year, figured I'd share it: Last night I was listening to "Wearing The Inside Out" by Pink Floyd while driving out on the LIE heading eastbound at 11pm at night. I really got emotional. I felt like screaming, melting, letting my soul just burst into energy and just float. I let myself experience the power of the music, the love, the passion, the heart of it all. I understood the elements. The soft synths, the airy vocals, the beautiful guitar. I cried hard and I am not ashamed to say it. The music became one with me. I wanted to just disperse my body throughout the universe and flying into the ocean, into the air and just explode with love because that is what I felt inside. I whimpered and felt the beauty so deep in my heart and soul. It reminds me of why I do what I do with the Floyd Tribute. It's about sharing those elements.
It tears through this soul in such a beautiful melancholy that I almost have to choke back the tears that threaten to flow... then ebb then reach out to the crescendo of the sonic beauty and the tears flow freely as the guitar weeps for me.
This is one of the most beautiful songs i've ever listened to. PINK FLOYD...YOU WILL LIVE FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!! God do i love that sax!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I could die to this song. It's so beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love it!!! I just love it!!!
When I hear songs like this I realize the power that humans have to create beauty and divinity in this world
This song makes me want to forgive anyone who has done me wrong. Thanks, Pink Floyd

Sometimes we play the music that transcends how we feel inside. It somewhat soothes us.
Division Bell is such an underappreciated album. David Gilmour once expressed the sentiment that The Daark Side of the Moon was almost too good for their own good. It wound up overshadowing some of their other excellent work. I think Division Bell falls into that category.
Dark side is not my favourite by a long shot, The wall is a masterpiece, final cut is class , animals is sublime then i may get to dark side.

Please don't forget about Richard Wright, a genius who wrote many songs of The Division Bell
Soundtrack of my life, always comforting to find out someone else is feeling the same way like I do.
From morning to night I stayed out of sight
Didn't recognize I'd become
No more than alive I'd barely survive
In a word... Overrun
Won't hear a sound
(He's curled into the corner)
From my mouth
(But still the screen is flickering)
I've spent too long
(With an endless stream of garbage to)
On the inside out
(Curse the place)
My skin is cold
(In a sea of random images)
To the human touch
(The self-destructing animal)
This bleeding heart's
(Waiting for the waves to break)
Not beating much
I murmured a vow of silence and now
I don't even hear when I think aloud
Extinguished by the light I turn on the night
Wear its darkness with an empty smile
I'm creeping back to life
My nervous system all awry
I'm wearing the inside out
Look at him now
He's paler somehow
But he's coming around
He's starting to choke
It's been so long since he spoke
Well he can have the words right from my mouth
And with these words I can see
Clear through the clouds that covered me
Just give it time then speak my name
Now we can hear ourselves again
I'm holding out
(He's standing on the threshold)
For the day
(Caught in fiery anger)
When all the clouds
(And hurled into the furnace he'll)
Have blown away
(Curse the place)
I'm with you now
(He's torn in all directions)
Can speak your name
(And still the screen is flickering)
Now we can hear
(Waiting for the flames to break)
Ourselves again

When you look up the definition of "Chill," you get this song.
The artists involved are genius. But the person who made this video is a genius too.
Next level genius.

Thank you Pink Floyd for all the years of music..

Im taken back to my visit to The Dali museum in St Pete Fl. Love Love Love.
Same ❤
I dropped a tab of double dipped paper 2 days ago and my friend suggested me to play this song during our trip and as I was watching the vivid paintings of salvador dali I came across the warped watch figures and I suddenly lost sense of time it was as if time never existed and felt like I'm living in this song and the pictures and had one of the most intense acid experiences of my life!
When i look the comments under PINK FLOYD songs and find out there are many people who are feeling same things and thinking like me ,i am feeling very good :))
Art in its finest.
Best from best!
I probably listen and/or watch this video multiple times a day. It was almost genius to pair two of the greatest artists who themselves reinvented what was the stale norms of conformity.
Pick a favorite Pink Floyd song: Probably the hardest thing anyone would ever have to do; however, if I had to, this would be it.
Mine is two suns in the sunset
Echoes
This and Sorrow
Shine on if i was pushed on the matter.
*The Narrow Way (Part 3)* or *Pigs (Three Different Ones)* for me
such a beautfiul song..
scratch that, What a wonderful song
thank you pink floyd that you existed and created this wonderful music. i wouldnt be the man i am today without your music.
This is my favorite from the Division Bell album... musically, lyrically, vocally, and in terms of the whole sonic atmosphere. The song's subject matter particularly resonates with me.
watching on CZcams at BLACK METAL TEENS HEARING PINK FLOYD
Sit in a darkened room, relax and enjoy this track.
Es como si Dalí fuese la representación pictórica de Floyd! Me es inevitable no trazar un paralelo...
Man.. that riff at 6:07 give me chills... one of the greatest riffs of music certainly
This song is so underated. This is one of my favorite albums/song by Pink Floyd!
just calms my soul x3
+Luis García I want you to know this is probably the best youtube comment I've ready in years.
même 320 000 mots ne peuvent décrire ce que je ressens en écoutant cette merveille
My life feels more complete with Pink Floyd's music.
It's about sharing those elements.
the best painter and the best band \m/
Ni con todas las palabras más hermosas del idioma castellano se podrían describir las sensaciones que producen la mezcla Dalí y Pink Floyd. 💙😊
Beautiful beyond words. Thank you for this gem.
It tears through this soul in such a beautiful melancholy that I almost have to choke back the tears that threaten to flow... then ebb then reach out to the crescendo of the sonic beauty and the tears flow freely as the guitar weeps for me.
Definetely i love this song deeply ,considerably a lot...MASTERPIECE
This song is just perfect!
🌹
