  • With a simple demonstration, Joaquin Marcano breaks down our perceptions of modern democracies and invites us all to get creative about how we form representative governments. Joaquín Marcano is a production engineer from Venezuela, graduating from the Universidad Simón Bolívar and Louvain School of Management in Belgium. He’s a very curious individual who loves to learn about anything, often through CZcams to which he admits being addicted. Joaquín has multiple hobbies including soccer and writing when he is not dreaming of social entrepreneurship. He is always eager to create new businesses with a healthy disregard for conventional thinking and a strong preference for creativity and innovation. Joaquín seeks to close the educational gap between those who have access to quality education and those who don’t.
From 2010 to 2015, Joaquín worked in an NGO that promoted democratic values and youth participation in elections. He realised that the problem of accountability and representation needed to be solved in order to tackle the problems facing our world today. Joaquín believes that politics can learn from businesses and vice versa. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Voting for spending, not politicians will fix democracy. If we could vote on where money goes, we would not need politicians to decide it for us nor so many laws to control it. Instead, we vote for politicians who either are running to get control of the money or honest ones who will sooner or later become corrupted by it.

Just because you can vote does not mean you live in a democracy. A representative democracy is one where you represent yourself in the government decision that affect your life. See Legalize Real Democracy Party.

Democracy isn't the solution. Democracy is the problem. Even the Greeks leaving under democracy new that. This guy advocates more democracy. With more democracy the line on his chart will be more like 5%, not 30%. The problem is easily fixed, but no government will destroy the system which brought them to power.

You destroyed your talk by admitting that we only have a 30% chance to get what we want. Politicians aren't going to change the system they built to make sure they stay in office.
