- Hey party people, DJ NVision here and I'm thrilled to bring you my most epic gig log yet! Brace yourselves because I will be showing you one of, if not THE largest gig of my career so far - the Shen 2023 Junior Prom!
Let me tell you, it was absolutely insane! The energy was through the roof as I took the stage and transformed the prom into a full-blown concert-level experience. With our largest sound system to date, including four massive 18-inch subs, the bass was pumping and I definitely set the record for most subs at a prom in the 518!
I mixed and MCed in a club style, keeping the dance floor packed all night long. It felt like we had our own little nightclub at the prom. The vibes were unreal! This gig log is packed with non-stop excitement and highlights from the Shen 2023 Junior Prom. With the intense energy of the crowd you won't want to miss a second of this unforgettable night.
Unfortunately, the venue has a laser-based fire system so I couldn't use haze. I am going to attempt to get it approved next year, however.

This may be the most thrilling gig log I've ever watched. I love the fact that you got me to appreciate why the kids love today's hiphop. It is starting to make sense to me now. I love the weaving in and out of older tracks. I got like cold shivers going up and down my back watching this.

Do you have any color errors on the pads when you use a virtual dj? For example, they may not be lit in the same colors as in the program.
DUDE!! You crushed it, I wish I could DJ like that!! I have a question for ya! How do you go about knowing what’s songs will interact with the crowd well and what songs will blend well with each other? Again, fantastic job man! I’m hype from just watching the video! Haha
Honestly for me its just a skill you develop over time knowing what songs are similar and what songs hit. As the prom season goes on I start to figure it out more too.
Outstanding what a great way to show power, inspirarion and dedication. Just a wils question since i dont want to go heavy on subs do you think 15" subs will do good for an event like this ? I mean wither 2 or 4 15" subs
Hmmm. The 18s deff hit lower and are louder but you *may* be able to get away with 4 15s not that id recommend it. For the seniors we only ran 2 tops instead of 4 which actually sounded better because you get comb filtering when you mix tops like this

Alot of people said that I honestly didn't mind. I moved to more sidelighting for my others. Watch last years senior prom gig log, they had these bright ass stage lights on me and I didn't want that this year lol

Enough.... lol This actually was one of my more basic packages since they didnt get more than my dance lighting but upgraded the sound. It was in the mid 1ks. They also got a discount bc when the senior and junior classes both book me i take off some of their balance as an incentive to book.

What’s with the weird angle of your outside subs? Subs in of themselves are not directional. Was it easy or hard to time align two different brands of subs?
They aren't angled intentionally. It's probably a mix of both the different cabinet shapes and that they weren't all strapped together. I didn't do too much time align on this prom but the senior prom I did (check it out on my channel). Will my sound guy ran some measurements with open sound meter and set delays
Were you mixing on the fly or had a prepared set?
Totally on the fly! I was sent a list of some requests so I played off that, my own crates (link in the description) and some of my wordplays i go-to alot. Totally reading the crowds energy live, I never preplan

@@djnvision I tried to preplan my sets in the past but every time I would do that, at the gig I would say, I'm good to go, let me just load up this crate and it will be smooth sailing. Then I open up the crate and I'm like, this just doesn't feel right and I end up going back to mixing on the fly. The worst part is that I probably wasted 90 seconds looking though tracks that I won't be playing much of when I could of been arranging the next 2-3 songs in my head along with mix points. As you know, 90 seconds might as well be an eternity.
@@shanethedj Only time I have ever preplanned was for a showcase. I do so many of these school dances where I don't really look at my crates and just know what I wanna play next.

I cant legally sell my music files, however I sell my crates to get you started as far as tracklists. If you want a large back catelog check out iDJPool, BPM Supreme or DMS. You should be able to find mostly all thats on them
Let me guess they wanted that entire experience you gave them for $300-$400. That would be the expectation out here.😅
Definitely got more than that ;) at $85 a ticket that means only 4 kids would have to show up to pay for it.
@@djnvision Man I'm so glad! I was so worried they tried to make things really low. In the DMV that same set-up you have would be over priced if we said $1,000 depending on the school board.
I got over 1k for it. Thats crazy I would never even consider doing this for less than that. I did give them $100 off since both the senior class (see the other gig log) and the junior class booked me, which deff sealed the deal@@ToussaintProductions
Do you have a lot of people interrupting for requests? It really takes me out of my flow and I want to find a way to get it to stop
Occasionally ill get a few. Best bet is have an assistant. Jack (in the video doing lights) will go and ask them and then relay it to me and i will throw it in my prepare section of vdj if its not stupid. Other than that i see ocassionally a few phone signs which i dont mind because if its good ill point and smile and throw it in within the next few songs.
