I'm happy next gen is officially confirmed but man I really hope we're not waiting till holiday 2025

I disagree. I think Prime 4 will be a showcase piece to show off the new console's hardware capabilities (ray tracing, 4k etc)

Knowing that we probably have some months to go before we really see anything about the switch successor, I think I’m gonna treat this year as a sort of greatest hits year, and revisit all the switch software from 2017 on that I really loved.

I'm calling it now, we'll get a proper announcement by the end of August or the beginning of September. That'll still give them 6-7 months to spin up the marketing and build the units/ship them for March.

It should be duely noted that the PS2 had quite a few of it's sales based purely on the fact that it was the most affordable dvd/game playing system at the time. And that without the DVD capability it wouldn't have likely sold more than the wii did in its time. That being neither here nor there, I would like to see overall software sales of the ps2 in comparison.
It also had its sales numbers fluffed with sonys endless lying whitch trading laws delta with as they were faking userbase numbers and sales even now thee doing it a ps portal is classified by sony as a ps5 sale user ... a warranty r3placement or post warranty replacement after trading standards got involved isn't a Sale never was never will be ps2 fail rates was huge and every replacement unit was listed as another sale by FONY

The June Direct is no surprise. They used to reveal their E3 Direct around this time back when E3 was a thing.

It clearly says there that the Consolidated Financial Forecast for the FY25 is for Nintendo Switch.
Nintendo Switch 2 is not part of that equation.
But you are actually reading & using your head. Imagine expecting a console reveal before the holidays are over. It seems Nintendo fans want the company income to drop 50% instead of the 19 or so they are forecasting.
Because they referred to Switch 2 as the “Switch next model” and also the history of Nintendo treating Gameboy and Gameboy Color as the same console for sales I acknowledged the possibility.

I am glad Nintendo comfirmed a June Direct, even if its earlier than usual. It’s just comforting to hear something from them. This is getting me more pumped! I cant wait to see what games (Zelda 👀) are coming the second half of the year!

If Switch gets 13.5 million sales this fiscal year and passes DS, Nintendo could forcast 9-10 million in the next fiscal year as it's death year and pass PS2.
The Switch probably won’t completely die until 2028 or so.
if the switch 2 comes out... and a second switch lite comes out later... I hope they can combine to make a "dual screen like" game play experience.OR... they can do the same thing with a second switch or the old switch.
Alright here's some predictions I have based on the info we learned here:
- Switch 2 will be revealed in September or October and will launch March - May next year
- June Direct will be our last chance to get Metroid Prime 4 on Switch, otherwise it a cross-gen title being saved for Switch 2
- Current Switch will get a price cut and/or some aggressive bundles this holiday to combat the Switch 2 reveal
- Current Switch will sell 10 million this fiscal year and then will sell 5 million fiscal 2026 when the Switch 2 launches, 3 million fiscal 2027 and 1 million fiscal 2028 when it will likely be discontinued giving it a final total of 160 million

I personally believe Prime 4 is a Switch 1 exclusive and if there was ever a time to announce Prime 4, it would be at this Nintendo Direct. So I am hyped.

Nintendo and price cuts are pretty rare, so wouldn't count on it to much. Maybe for black friday and holliday sales in best case. Other than that, I think they will announce the new console in entirety in October and then have a big event in January before releasing it in March 2025. That would follow the Switch timeline pretty much 1:1 and could happen. And this year might be mostly ports like WW+TP and Metroid Prime 2+3 before even 4 comes out.

The Switch has had a great run. I have said time and time again the PS 2 well it really wasn't just a gaming console. 22% of sales was for people buying it for the DVD player. It was the cheapest out there and Sony was taking full advantage of that to boost their numbers.
BTW PC still holds all the crowns.

i mean, first guess is that investors are asking that's why they revealed the next system alongside the june direct.
Its gonna be called Switch X model and Switch C model.
Software sale predictions include all software not just one like TOTK. So it's not that there will be a game this calendar year that is as sold as TOTK, it's combined numbers of all software sold. As for what we got for the rest of the year, well we have GOT to get Prime 2 and 3 Remastered. Prime 4....ehhh that's a lot of Metroid for 6 months if we get Prime 2, 3 and 4 lol. Professor Layton's new game, but I forget, that might be a 2025 game.... I suspect the June Direct will have some surprises. Maybe Xenoblade Chronicles X ported over? Maybe Monoliths new game? It's been in the works for years now...A new Kirby title is not to crazy, also a Fire Emblem game....either a remake or new one. We are getting close to the time for a new one...though they might want the next new FE game to be on the new system and a remake on Switch...lots of possibilities.
Also Pokemon Z-A is another I forgot.
I wonder what would the new Kirby title be maybe a sequel to Kirby and the Forgotten Land cause that would be cool to see HAL and Nintendo announce in the Direct

@@ItApproachesi mean we got a new mainline kirby game every 2-3 years from 2011-2018. then a four year gap for forgotten land because of how big of a change it was for the team. so it’s actually not unlikely that we see an announcement of a new mainline kirby game of some kind in the forgotten land style (but yeah it would most likely be saved for a switch 2 launch year).

i’ll elaborate. do you think it’s fair that nintendo still charges the full $60 for switch games regardless if they released 7 years ago? when the standard for AAA games is at least being on consistent 50% sales a year after launch. regardless of the “well they still sell so there’s no need to since they’re evergreen!” argument, do you think it’s moral that games like Mario Odyssey, which turns 7 years old this year, or Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, a 7 year old port of a now decade old game, are $60?
and let’s look at games which aren’t evergreen sellers. because people REALLY exaggerate how many of nintendos games are. yeah mainline mario, zelda, and things like AC smash and pokémon will sell regardless; but look at games like Yoshi’s Crafted World, Kirby Star Allies, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Arms, or basically any nintendo game under 5 million copies; are they really worth $60 when they’re all 5-7 years old…
like looking at 2017 playstation games like Horizon (sold 24 million units which is better than many of the so called “evergreen” nintendo titles”) goes for like $15 on the playstation store consistently.
look at resident evil 7. sold 11 million copies. it’s 7 years old. and it goes for literally $10 on sale.
but look at anything nintendo released around the same time. Arms sold like 2 million copies and is still $60 now. that’s vile.
hell, i think it actually determinants many franchises. metroid would sell so much more if nintendo wasn’t keeping the permanent $60 price tag on the niche franchise which historically doesn’t sell well. Dread would sell so much more if it was like $20-30 on sale…

It’s interesting that they’re projecting another 13 million units even while essentially announcing new hardware. Price drops and something else they think can move hardware have to be coming.
The price drop will probably come after the official reveal in the fall.
See! I said Nintendo had nothing to be too bothered about. The naive and dark days of the early 2010's are over! Nintendo is the new Juggernaut. Any old upgrade was all the Switch needed to ensure it can handle the mainstream AAA at half decent standards. It's truly timee!

It'll be revealed in 2025 and released in the following fiscal year. Nintendo has done everything in their power to tell gamers to wait and no one wants to hear it.
1) Its nowhere even hinted at in their forecast.
2) They say "fiscal year" instead of just "this year." In the fiscal year that the Switch released, they made a very similar statement that said it would be revealed "this year" and it was in October.
3) They emphasize the 2 year gap from the first time they openly talked about the Switch to when it was released. Get ready for a similar (hopefully shorter) wait.
4) They tell us they aren't even going to mention it in their Direct about 2024 software. No hint, no tease, nothing. Just shut up about it now.

the switch 1 was said to be revealed in the 2016-2017 fiscal year. it then was in october. then it came out in march.

@@cwega2463 No. For the first Switch, they told us it was coming in March 2017 and that it would be revealed "later this year." Now, they've given us no release date and are using the phrase "this fiscal year" which itself extends through next March.
Everything is pointing to a later time schedule than he first Switch, but everyone keeps telling themselves a similar or earlier schedule.
