The year after, while the second journey was happening, the Tordesilhas Treaty was signed. The British never really "colonized" Guyana or South America im general. They occupied and took over all the Dutch colonies during the Napoleonic Wars. They occupied alot of Dutch colonies worldwide during this period. They were formally given the 2 additional provinces next to their South American outpost which eventually became British Guyana in 1814.

yeah but the Dutch were just less interested in colonisation than the other European powers, don't get me wrong they still colonised parts of the world but they mostly focused on setting up small trading posts rather than major colonies
