  • I take the Metro North Train from New York City to spend a day in Stamford, CT. I explore the downtown area and have the famous hot oil pizza from Colony Grill and then have doughnuts at Donut Delight. Next, I head down to Cummings Park and see the beautiful coast and beach.

I grew up in Stamford, really nice seeing your positivity and enthusiasm for all the places I'd frequent of my home town. You basically hit up all the same spots I took my girlfriend to when she was visiting the city for the first time when I took her home for Christmas. Great video, I'm surprised how much you were able to see on foot off of one Colony pie and a donut. Cheers and wishing you a great time next you visit the city!! definitely try to see a showing at the Avon Theatre one day, it's a gorgeous spot on the inside and a theater even my grandfather remembers going to.

Not mentioned is that it's nearly as expensive to live as Manhattan - median income is about $140K. It has a lot of Fortune 500 companies that moved out of NYC starting in the 70s and downtown was totally rebuilt. And companies love it so much they don't venture north so it seems like half of Fairfield County commutes there clogging I-95 and 15. That beautiful Gothic church is St. Mary's (where my parent's were married.)

I lived in Stamford for 5-6 years till my family moved to Greenwich CT and loved there for all my life until 6 yrs ago after my dad died, my mom, my 2 sisters and I decided to move to Long Island. But I did go to Stanford for elementary school and middle school. I went to the Stamford nature center for elementary, then villa maria for middle school and it was the best years of my life. Every morning my dad and I would go to donuts delight, and ever other week or so we would go to five guys. But the one place my family adored the most for when it comes to eating out is Chicken Joes or Garden Catering. God I really do miss Stamford and Greenwich. 1 day I want to visit again and see and remember all the good times I had. Also to see my old houses that I grew up in

Colony Grill is very old. It is close to where I grew up on Frederick Street in the 1950s and 1960s. I loved their pizza and it is amazing that it is still in existence. @@Jamesnu St Mary's Church, where you took beautiful video/pictures, was where I was Baptized. I lived right across the street from that Church. Small world. Inside was very beautiful as I recall. That road you walked to the beach from the church is the road I walked every day in the summer. There used to be a hamburger joint around there run by a professional wrestler named Tony Altamare. I would stop there daily for lunch and ate a couple of hamburgers and listen to the stories. I graduated from Stamford Catholic High School in 1971 and immediately left for military service and a couple of tours in Southeast Asia. I lost track of things in Stamford after that. But I heard things got very expensive. My parents house after world war 2 on Frederick Street cost only $10,000 with a 30 year mortgage. The house now sells for about $600,000 but my parents sold it long ago. I don't think I could afford to live in Stamford anymore. I think the city has a lot of business headquarters and very wealthy people. I hope the above description adds more memories to your trip. Thanks for doing that wonderful video. Stamford has a nice Nature Park you might like with lots of animals and exhibits as well an observatory next to it. Connecticut: "Like Massachusetts, but with one-third the charm." CT doesn't have any great cities anyone would ever want to visit. It does have some quaint seashore small towns, but the seashores themselves are nothing to see.

Stamford does not have any sports teams, not even minor league. One day, they should get a minor league baseball team, and maybe an ECHL team. Bridgeport and Hartford already have AHL teams.

Stamford has a LOT going for it. The only thing going against it is that it is just plain ugly. The buildings and the architecture, that is. The downtown area, while it's got restaurants, bars, shops, a major theater, a mall, etc., is a monument to architectural hideousness. But there's not much ya can do about it other than just accept it and go on about your day.
