The New York Jets selected Zach Wilson second at the 2021 NFL Draft and to this point he has done absolutely nothing to show that he can be the Jets long term solution at quarterback. He was bad as a rookie and somehow, he may be even worse this season and no week made that more clear than Week 11.

I think the point of benching him was that he stood up on national tv after a loss and took no accountability. If there is ever a cue that a young player needs to be humbled, that is it. Couple that with his horrible play in general and it's a no brainer. Plus they're still in the playoff hunt so really there is numerous points to benching him.
He does need to be humbled and I think people are getting ready to call his career over because they're more than a little skeptical that it will actually work.
It's the playoff hunt. That was the main reason for his benching otherwise they wouldn't be so eager to bench their #2 pick. They don't want to be wrong. They have veteran in the locker room that are losing faith and wants to make the playoffs so the HC have to make the decision to benefit them and the team.

Unfortunately, the Jets got everything right except for the QB position. He was clearly the wrong guy from Day 1 and I knew he'd be horribly bad. He faced no real competition at BYU.

Sorry, not with those stats. He never really played good competition but when you've got 3700 yards with 33 passing TDs to 3 picks, and 10 rushing TDs, you're not dropping to the 6th round.

The trade-up was still pretty awful - at least the Jets "earned" the 2nd overall pick instead of giving up tons of assets to draft a bust. But Trubisky had way more promise than Wilson does/ever will, I still have no idea why people thought a single pro day made this dude worth a 2nd overall pick...

I dont think they have given up on him, the benching is probably just to teach him a lesson. They know they cannot win superbowl, even if they make playoffs, they are trying to motivate him to see if they can make him grow. I personally think he is a bust and they should move on.
Hopefully he can learn from this and improve. At the same time, really hoping that Mike White succeeds in this opportunity.
I don't know, his attitude and demeanor when it comes to accountability is so flippant and automatic that, that doesn't go away with a benching. More often than not it takes a long time to change your entire outlook and perception on things, and that's not even talking about the dudes skill level.

That's part of it, but it's also a signal that Saleh is running a business, not a QB school. Saleh has to look the other 52 guys in the eyes and tell them he's putting the best 11 out on the field on O and D. The players know Zach is the worst QB on the roster. Saleh would have lost the locker room if he kept playing Wilson.

Every single college football fan knew Fields & Lawerence were the top 2 QBs, draft analysts always come out with their lame hot takes & sometimes a team is dumb enough to bite on it, Wilson is an ideal case of that, his last year at BYU where he dominated was the Covid year & they played 0 P5 schools & was clearly just a better athlete than everyone else most games.

Jets REALLY need to change their QB evaluation process. Two big wiffs in a row. And with both Darnold and Wilson...all the flaws for both of them were present by doing a deep analysis of their college experiences and performances.
Darnold was a turnover machine in college....and that's what he became in the pros. Wilson played mostly really bad teams in college. Only faced 4 really good teams in college and lost badly to all of them. Big Red flag there that should have been caught. And his inability to make short screen passes should have been caught too. Never should have been a 1st round pick. In my view anyway.
I agree. The Jets' keep drafting these projects and immediately putting unrealistic expectations on them. Like you said, Sam Darnold significantly underachieved in college. But from the moment Darnold was drafted, the team, fans and media built him up to be a savior. What they should have done was acknowledged that he was a big project with a lot of potential, that he wasn't ready and that his development was a major priority. And then they repeated the exact same mistake with Zach Wilson, who was an even bigger project. This is why they are getting the low floor instead of the high ceiling.

The problem is that wilson was supposed to have Gregg Knapp as his QB coach and he died. They did the right idea because of the horrible case of winning two games instead of not winning, but the other options sucked. Fields is a really mediocre pocket passer, mac jones is a game manager, and trey lance is a bad dream. The 2021 class just feels so bad outside of lawrence. Goes to show how even a win has harmed the jets future.

They're exciting to watch and they are able to string together some magic on broken plays and all that exciting stuff, but what enables them to do that is that they're good at the basics. Zach has physical talent (gun for an arm, good mobility) but that means nothing if you can't stand in the pocket, handle defensive pressure, or make easy/touch throws. Mike White doesn't have his physical traits but he is a far better quarterback.

Just look at how Tom Brady handles the questions the media throws his way. Even after his big comeback today, he pointed out the throws he missed and how the win was due to the team. Itâs gotta be a shocker for nfl qbs when they realize they suck. Itâs strange because they get drafted and everyone canât get enough of the new kid, the franchise savior. Tar one starts and thereâs a few signs of brilliance and fans cut you slack. Still the talk of the town, still a mini celebrity. Start season two and thereâs still a struggle to look good out there but you hold your head up knowing you have a HOF career still ahead. Come out with an aggressive mindset, a couple nice completions, then get overwhelmed and thatâs it! Coach walks up and says itâs over weâre gonna move in another direction. The crowd forgets all about you and you sign with another team or two and just play preseason snaps a few times, couple seasons go by with a sad quiet retirement as if you never even played in the NFL. That original team has forgotten all about you and moved way on.

The defense is amazing sauce Gardener came in and instantaneously became a top five corner in the League Quinton Williams decided to put his stamp down as one of the best D tackles in the league and on paper they look to have receiving talent and before Hall got injured they had a hell of a running back James Robinson isn't working out right now but I have to imagine when Hall comes back he will look better of course that's going to be next year but the only thing that is shitty on this team is the fucking quarterback it's bad when Joe flacco is legitimately better than you.

The Jets should take a serious look at Nathan Rourke of the CFL's BC Lions. He's just finished his first year as the Lions starter and completed over 75% of his passes with 25 TD passes. He's young and looks like the NFL blew it with him not being drafted out of college a couple years ago.
A Jets D with Micah Parsons and literally anyone else at qb would have at least two more wins right now, even if Parsons had blown out his knee in training camp and hadn't played a single snap this year.

Everyone keeps say Taylor Heinicke is not the future for Washington but I would absolutely take him over either Wilson, Trey Lance or Justin Fields. Honestly I don't get the Fields fans. He can run but let's face it he looked almost as bad as Wentz in the Chicago Washington game and Wentz's game was the second worst game I have ever seen. The worst being Josh Freeman for the Vikings. I'm not sure he completed a single pass in the entire game and I think was cut after that one game.
