  • Continuing the East Penn Railroad theme, this video focuses on the Perkiomen Branch operations along the active portion of this former Reading branch between the NS interchange along the Reading Line at Emmaus and the end of the active line at Pennsburg. The usual motive power for this line is either former Conrail GP10 7554 and ex NYSW GP18 1804, which wears the current ESPN scheme.
My friend James and I decided to give chase to this run on Tuesday December 11, 2018. Running under the symbol PERK-11 and using the GP18, we catch them departing the NS interchange at Harrison Street in Emmaus with five cars, four tanks and a covered hopper. After chasing them to a few locations along the branch, notably passing a water tank from the steam days, we catch PERK-11 as they spot tanks at CJ Robinson in East Greenville before rolling lite into Pennsburg, passing the train station, where the crew would tie the 1804 down..
Now in the new year on January 2, 2019, we catch the PERK crew once more, today obviously running as PERK-02 as they pull empties out of Blommers Chocolate in East Greenville, the other one of two active customers on the branch..
    Thanks for watching!

Are the filling hatches normally left open after the tank car is emptied? Will the shortline have to have them cleaned before returning them?

Must not be fun living at the house on 5:33 don't know if this RR operates at night, but it would be a wake up call for sure. Surely would suck for me, I work the graveyard shift and sleep during the day.

The horn blowing will definitely be nerve racking for me just as loud motorcycles.
