    LYRICS:
Thy strong word did cleave the darkness; At thy speaking it was done. For created light we thank theeWhile thine ordered seasons run.Alleluia! Alleluia! Praise to thee who light dost send!Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia without end!
Lo, on those who dwelt in darkness,Dark as night and deep as death,Broke the light of thy salvation,Breathed thine own life-giving breath.Alleluia! Alleluia! Praise to thee who light dost send!Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia without end!
Thy strong Word bespeaks us righteous;Bright with thine own holiness,Glorious now, we press toward glory,And our lives our hope confess.Alleluia! Alleluia! Praise to thee who light dost send!Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia without end!
From the cross thy wisdom shiningBreaketh forth in conqu'ring might; From the cross forever beamethAll thy bright redeeming light.Alleluia! Alleluia! Praise to thee who light dost send!Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia without end!
Give us lips to sing thy glory,Tongues thy mercy to proclaim,Throats to shout the hope that fills us,Mouths to speak thy holy name.Alleluia! Alleluia! May the light which thou dost sendFill our songs with alleluias, Alleluias without end!
God the Father, light-creator,To thee laud and honor be.To thee, Light from Light begotten,Praise be sung eternally.Holy Spirit, light-revealer, Glory, glory be to thee.Mortals, angels, now and ever Praise the holy Trinity!

Dziękuję za piękną pieśń, która pobudza moje serce do wdzięczności Panu Jezusowi za Jego dzieło zbawienia.

This has always been one of my favorites. I will be using it in my 1-2 classroom. My kids love using "the Koine Guys" cd for singing hymns.

I understand that this song was first published with only 4 verses but had two more added later. Id love to see this "everyone stand up" verse at the end :D

There is a unique strength in singing praise in a minor key. Sort of acknowledging the battle we're in but throwing Jesus' victory back in Satan's teeth. I've loved this one since it debuted in the sampler way back when; it was my prime motivator for learning to play hymns as a kid. You guys took it to a whole 'nother level with the percussion and electric guitar combined with the organ underpinnings, really leaning into the triplet rhythms. Tracy's harmonies are stellar, and the ending is brilliant. I hope we get to sing this one in heaven. It's on repeat today!

Agreed! This is the best arrangement I've heard of this song. It's still so oriented to congregational singing which is why I like Koine's work so much.

I'm also happy that this banger comes from my Lutheran heritage.

hymnody has lament that CCM is often lacking. This is not to be uniquely critical of either, just to say that it's nice to hear that bleed over the lines on occasion.

I'm a Lutheran and I prefer this hymn to Thy Strong Fortress.
I hope and pray we can get more great hymns coming from our camp.
The WELS have some good new ones.

I will never bow to he who claims to be divine
I'll tear down your gates with my bare fucking hands
And burn the world that you rule over
No matter how convinced you are, you're not a god of mine
You're not a fucking god of mine

I always thought this hymn was a metal hymn. Pretty sure it was written in the late 60s during the birthing of metal.
