I just want to thank Tom the Taxi Driver for responding to an email I sent him via his website. I thought I had been ripped off for taking a taxi from Heathrow T5 to the Hilton T5 hotel. Tom took the time to respond, said he understood my concern and explained why the cost was so high. This video is an example of what taxi drivers have to go through at Heathrow which visitors don't know about, so thank you, Tom. I hope we can meet next time I'm back in London!
How much did you get charged
@@GuineaPig91 30 pounds.
Yep, fixed price as it’s outside the TFL licensing area. The FP price was agreed between the drivers, HAL and TfL.
Shuttle buses are also available but last time I checked they’re about £10 a head and you go via a lot of other hotels to get there.
Minicabs will charge what they like, might be cheaper, might be more expensive
@@greigs9384 I'll keep this short. I was trying to avoid the Hoppa buses and chose to use a taxi instead. The guy who was coordinating taxis told me it would be 15 pounds. That's why I was surprised it cost double for a 4-mile drive. No matter what, he got a tip because he explained the costs but double-checked with Tom if it was reasonable and he explained it very well. Why airport hotels at Heathrow don't have their own shuttles is beyond me, but am sure someone can answer that. But I really appreciate Tom answering my email.
@@greigs9384 The shuttle bus fare seems ridiculous, at least compared with normal London bus fare of £1.75 or the maximum England bus fare of £2.00. (Wales doesn't adhere to that, so my two singles were £2.30 each!)
Every time I visit London and hail a taxi, I hope it'll be yours! You're a good lad! have a nice weekend!
Thanks for dropping me off bro! 😎 🚕
I've played euro truck sim since I was a teenager and had the same thought of might as well earn real money, so now I'm a delivery driver 🤣
Lol happy for you 😂😂
Tom, in your videos you see lots of drivers ranking. Is there a massive divide with cabbies on the profitability of ranking vs hailing areas for jobs to make a living? It would be very interesting to see how one day of only ranking compares to one day of hailing (minus airports & train stations). Keep up the good videos mate.
These are my favourite vlogs you do driving around
That was very good.....I kept on thinking ok I'll switch off...but never did. Top work all around
The Globe theatre job looked stressful maybe right Farringdon St and a cheeky u-turn at the Italian Consulate to get yourself facing south might've been the easier call. Great video Tom 👍
Yes… even bride lane would have worked 🙏🏻
11:15 It would be nice for you to show off the Flashing light outside the Palace of Westminster for Taxis. I have driven past years ago and the light was flashing the whole time I was in Traffic in Parliament Square. I bet not many people know of the 2 flashing lights outside Palace of Westminster
3hrs sat in a feeder park-that's nearly 40 quid at minimum wage. I'm amazed any drivers bother with Heathrow considering you need to pay money to rank there in the first place.
They ain’t real cabbies. They get lazy and would rather sit and play cards with their mates in the cafe. I know drivers that drop in town and go straight back
Nice music on this one. You're one of the very few CZcamsrs that get the levels right behind speech. Keep up the good work.
Funny coincidence that your Heathrow run took you to Cromwell Road... that is the exact route I'll be taking in a few months' time. I can literally see my hotel in the distance where you drop her off 😂
Didn't expect to ever see my local area towards the end here lol
Streatham ?
Can you edit while in the airport canteen? Maybe a decent approach to combine the content creation with the waiting
Sounds ideal mate! Much better than putting beans on a shelf for 10 hours in Tesco. All pro’s and con’s, keep up the good work!
Hi Tom great to see you helping your flat mate 😀 go to another towns like Walsall west midlands england junction 10 m6 Walsall churckery we look forward to seeing you in Walsall
Great to have you back Tom doing these excellent videos absolutely love them.
Mate that breakfast told us all we needed to know. Honestly in all my time in London and at every taxi stand I was lucky enough to be allowed a cheeky bacon roll they’re all greasy spoons.
That Heathrow job was a typical Private Hire job all the waiting around etc unfortunately that is the way the trade is going.
You'd really like the Taxi system at York railway station. One way, single file, front vehicle takes the fare in order.
‘If there’s a bin lorry or if someone’s fallen over in the street’ 😂😂
I can't believe people take cabs for such short distances. Okay, maybe the guy with the sticks is understandable but the guy going to Premier Inn had barely a 20 minute walk in dry weather across a park!
Well he want convenience and he got the money lol
The park is a beautiful drive when it’s quite enough.
As someone who is in London currently and took a cab from Heathrow to Marble arch the driver was amazing.
Hi Tom, regarding the illegal pop rank at Vic hole in wall. I’ve been out for 25 years & I will pick up in front of the pop up in Praed st without a worry! Because I play by the rules. I wouldn’t ask the driver or passenger about it. I don’t care for what reason he’s there, he’s not legally ranking, it your job with a clear conscience. Also, with the Vito on Picc, he’s another idiot making you uncomfortable and he’s wrong and should be definitely staying behind. Your point about small jobs being the most profitable is obviously 100% correct. I’ve been telling friends since day 1 & they invariably think I’m an idiot and they all want long jobs. Great vid as always and love your outlook and positivity about our trade.
thank you for showing all your customer routes through the MAP. it is so helpful! I work near Hyde park and its always MAD there :D
Cabbie etiquette is interesting because you’re all individuals working for yourself. The green taxi and the cab that over took you for example.
Good mentality about just staying out working instead of waiting in traffic to get home. You're fresh, alert and might as well make some cash till you get close to home or tired.
Saturday evening watching another of your fantastic shift videos - absolutely brilliant. Thank you, love these.
The RAC club in Pall Mail my old MD of the firm I worked for before COVID was a member. Thing is he lives North East London and use to get the Tube home. I once had to pick up in his Company Car the head of a big company we got work from and take them all home. My overtime was cheaper than a Black Cab. 😀😀
❤❤❤ looking forward for this when weekend kicks in!
If someone wishes to book a cab (Heathrow), maybe yourself, would you still have to rank, or is there different system?
Tom would you share how much each job is you do. I watch a couple of the CZcams delivery drivers and they give a breakdown of how much each job pays and any tips.
No… out of respect for my colleagues
My mum has always called it upper and lower Regent st.
Great video as always!! I like that North Face jacket!! Have you seen CyclingMikey?
Did you hear that CyclingMikey got caught and fined going through a red light recently? The irony.....
Great video Taxi Tom, keep up the good work 👍
props to Tom if hes doing the thumbnails himself And to Tom if hes outsourcing to someone else :3 youtube prodigy in the making
I used to do private hire from Cambridge to the airports. I loved it but not sure if I could black cab work like you do.
Thanks, Tom. Got my y food order for £80 instead of hundred. Much appreciated 👏
Great video! I vote for longer videos
The more I watched your video, the more I question:
How many AZ maps you buy for each video for you to mark it down with the marker? 😂😂
Surrey isn’t a fairs fare Tom. The fairs Fares are for those areas beyond the m25 but aren’t far enough to be logged out the system so
Slough
Windsor
Staines
Egham
Might be a few more but they’re the ones which spring to mind
Reason being we can refuse jobs that go outside the GLA so these jobs would never get covered without the incentive of £40/£45 journeys.
Surrey is also one you can refuse aswell if the journey is over 20 miles? I think or takes longer than an hour to complete.
So cool to bump into you at the lights on Chancery Lane on Friday! You asked what I was doing turning right as I was going to Chelsea. Turns out the sat nav (forgive me) was set to avoid tolls so it was sending me up to Euston Road! You saved me 10 minutes there. Cheers!
17:59 That's me on Taxi Life Simulator since I don't drive. However: When I had a bad day at the call centre, or when there really aren't enough drivers out on Sundays, I just get into my Tesla in the game and drive like a madman to blow off some steam.
Literally just finished a shift in Barcelona on the game 😂
3 hours wait to even get going is so long. How is this even viable for cabbies?
Tom, I really like the videos and have been moved to tell you in a comment because I saw you last night while I was tour guiding round the back of St Botolph Aldgate. At least I think it was you. Anyway keep up the great work.
Definitely wasn’t me 😂
Good to see you back Tom.
Waiting for 3 hours odd, is it worth waiting all that time whereas you could have gone into central and got multiple jobs and possibly earned more?
I’ve been watching you for basically years at this point and never realised you talking about the iron lung meant toilets 😂
Great video. Cheers.
I love your videos. You should definitely do a book about your journeys.
It’s in the works 🙏🏻
Cracking shift video Tom
Tad embarrassed to ask this. Been a cab driver for 9 years (75 badge) and never put in for a tag. Haven’t work in the cab for 18 months (personal reasons) but now thinking about hiring a cab again. How easy is it now to get one of those tags. Is it still a three year waiting list? Hope you are well & many thanks for the great videos.
Really enjoy your videos Tom. QQ your cab is electric, on a long shift like that, how often do you have to recharge.
It seemed like he only recharged right at the start after getting back into town from Heathrow. Cab work is perfect for preserving electricity, as the regenerative braking charges the battery
I have just placed my first order of yFood. Unfortunately, the order code you provided doesn't work in the Netherlands. However, I generated a new one online. After seeing your promotion of yFood a lot on your channel, I am really curious to know how it tastes. I also loved this video, mate. I really enjoy watching these longer ones
Controversial but is this a case of too many taxis making it MORE expensive?
If you had half the number of Taxis going to Heathrow, you'd have half the wait time, and then you could charge less for your services. Instead of paying for the trip, plus 3 hours of you waiting in the feeder, the customer would pay for the trip and 1 hour in the feeder, for example.
Everyone is a winner in that respect because the fares are cheaper, you spend less time waiting around, and you make just as much money. The only issue I can see is if the number of people going to Heathrow significantly outstrips the number of people leaving Heathrow, and taxis have to do empty trips back from Heathrow.
Excellent video
6:40 is that where Cycling Mike is often catching drivers on their phone?
Great video Tom 👍
I thing you wrong about zebracrossing 😜 abeey rd is more danger lol love your videos keep it up m8
As far as I know, Toms comment at 4:15 isn't 100% accurate. If you get at the terminals at Heathrow a local job you have exactly 60mins from the moment you enter the rank at the terminal to getting back to the same terminal rank. If you can do this you don't need to go back through the feeder parks. The taxi readers will tell you how much time you have left within that 60minute window. Not sure how many times you can do this...but my mate does Heathrow a lot and it always causes him stress if he can drop off and get back within the 60 minutes window 😮
If it’s a local yes. But there’s also fares fare zones 👌🏻
Tom im an artic Driver and i still play euro truck simulator haha its possibly one of the most addictive games available. P.s. Please be one of those cabbies that is kind to truckers in London, that place is nightmare fuel in a HGV :).
My own Highway Code rule is “give the bigger vehicle all the room that they need, plus more” 😂
Sorry mate i have a different view. If a person approaches your cab that job is yours regardless of what other vacant cabs are around or whether there is a rank nearby. Its the luck of the draw and you win some you lose some.
In my opinion not as a driver the Piccadilly should get 2 extra tubes and run 24/7 that way the cab operations would take place in a more distributed manner
Heathrow doesn't run flights 24/7 anyway for noise reasons. People take cabs in the middle of the day when the tube is running, why would that make a difference?
yes thomas another one!
How dose Heathrow compare to Gatwick as both big airports so dose they have a complicated or diff system to Heathrow, and is London city easier, due to smaller but then also quieter as less flights
Black cab can't rank at Gatwick outside the Met.
@@michaelfrancis8692 thanks never new. That as that the case I take it , I it he too far taxi to ldn so would go by train
Need to get you and All City Steve sat down for a chin-wag! :)
If I would become a Dutch taxi driver, I want a London taxi cab but with the steer on the left side.
To bad, those cars aren't made for outside of the UK.
On the other hand, can you help customers get in faster and do you just have to get used to looking differently while driving?
How is your experience driving outside the UK?
Hi tom it great to see you back why do you go to heathrow when you know that you have to wait there a long time to get a job.
Downtime for emails, cleaning cab, eating etc.
might start job this so i can drive about with no seatbelt on
We just missed the homies kiss lol 😂😂😂
7:52 I used to upset the City Airport drivers by wanting to go to East London which was a £10-20 job. But, you know. It's not really my fault either. If the system is bad, don't rank there and they'll quickly fix the rules.
Euro Truck Simulator mentioned🎉🎉🎉
I spent 1000 hours on that game…
Is it really legal to do that hardest of hard rights at 6:45?
Why is Piccadilly Sheraton called the Marylebone Workhouse?
Hammersmith Broadway is the only rank in London that I've ever used, when my bike broke and I had to take it for repair.
Did you take your house mate to the airport, as well as if so it makes it better as u did your good deed for the day so helps that way and if you charged him as well it helps a little bit
Could you blur my face next time your at the rank please 😂🙏 didnt think id see myself on a youtube video😂
Drop me an email with Timestamp and I can do it now… 🫡
Hi tom hope i can meet take uour taxi around London next time i come to London ali Walsall west midlands england junction 10 m6 Walsall churckery
hey u doing a private tour in cab by chance trying find website to do it by chance thanks
Haven’t worked the feeder for years! How long is the wait to get a reader?
I heard they were issuing new ones now 👌🏻
I find it amazing that u drive around and always seem to find fares.Looks like the fb doom and gloom is not a true indication of present conditions. In my day I would drive around with nil fares , so I ended up ranking up or getting a job on an app.
Tell me how much yer paying them ( joke). I think ur enthusiasm is very good , but after 38 years ,I wonder how u will feel then .Actually there wont be a cabbie trade in 38 years sadly.
I retired last sept after 38 years.
Be lucky
This was around 14 hours of work condensed into 35 minutes, there was a lot of dead time between some of these jobs.
ok and u use more fuel.Good vids by the way.@@TomtheTaxiDriver
That's Cycle mikey favourite park
Have you even thought about doing a head/chest camera to get some clips?
Can’t whilst working… has to be approved CCTV
Why you do not use calls / apps? where you are ordered somewhere?
I dont understand why you would just sit for 3 hours at heathrow... earning nothing. what is the benefit in doing this??
doing whatever you want
No Demand , usually means it's a bit slack !
I like your videos but how did I get here? Lmao
Why does the feeder park get this lush canteen where I as a Private hire driver on the other side get this basic table & chairs that looks like it’s out of the 1950s 😂
Because they are useless
Made me nostalgic for Little Chef
Are you back doing tours
Why do you take jobs from Heathrow if you have to spend ages sitting around without anyone in the cab and pay a premium to do so?
Whatis the attraction of working from Heathrow?
You could end up with like 4 locals and a long one to there side of town and that could add up to better than street
doe black cab goes to stansted?
Dose diff times A day make a difference as morning you would get a lot of long haul far east flights flights landing so may take a taxi over public transport guess days may get more regular flights so know about public transport and is there busy times ie more flights so more users.
Is there any unusual systems for ranking ether like Heathrow has anywhere or different ie not just a norm next in line queue
What was the total earnings for the day?
WATCH yourself going through the Park Cycle Mikey is watching.
Noob question...does your meter charge on a time or distance basis? Thanks from Canada.
It's based on efficency
So it is both speed and distance😂
These excellent videos must take hours to edit 😅
Days 😂
At 15:25 does anyone know what car that is
taking a stab at it I would say a Mark 2 Jaguar, cannot make out if there are " crinkles " on the rear chrome which would make it a Daimler,
Are you thinking about ditching the cab and doing your hgv license Tom. Is that why you have the lorry simulator game. I was debating whether to do the knowledge or my hgv license. I think the hgv would pay more in my opinion what do you think
HGV would probably pay more… but less freedom and tax options
Would like it as a back up
@@TomtheTaxiDriver I watch a couple of the trucker CZcamsrs, and visually it seems a lot less stressful than driving a cab in London. The idea of just 1 or 2 load drops a day and the time constraints on driving time is starting to sound more appealing to me.
Maybe invent a cabbie game
If waiting 2-3 hours in the feeder park, how much of a ride is required to breakeven (for wait and ride)?
There's no definitive answer, it depends how much work is available elsewhere. If you got lucky in central, then no Heathrow job could make up for 10+ minimum charges. If you wasted mileage driving back in and around to only get a couple, then almost any Heathrow job would be better. It doesn't take too much to break even on the actual costs (taxi/fuel) and there's no fixed personal cost (income) so the question is just whether you could be getting more.
In the video he also took the time to eat, clean and do some paperwork - predictable downtime can 'cost' less than waiting around empty.
