Fucking metrics everywhere man. Taking the soul out of every little thing in life, replacing it with a machine like heart.
I'm a motorcyclist who runs a shop that builds jet engines. First video posted in summer of 2007. My format has not changed. I didn't become a millionaire, but I am still me.
I'm there for my audience, not the metrics. Less stress that way.
Yammie Noob is quite a success, and a source of great info.
Yeah I agree brother! There ain’t nothing as connecting to the creator as it used to be
i'd suggest getting into rumble if you've not yet, and consider some live streams (allows superchats etc). otherwise keep doing what you enjoy, good luck - tho I think you could format into podcasting - though as everything else its still a lot of work.
Sanitised, censorship & shilling are the words I'd use.
I notice that creators from all over the world use the same phrases & certain mannerisms that don't feel natural 🤨
75% of the people absorbing motorcycle content need to just go buy a bike. 125cc, 600, 1000 whatever. Just buy a damn bike and live your own content

Fortnine's best content is when they aren't selling you stuff. The documentary style videos with a physics lesson on the side are excellent
Agreed but that said they barely sell you anything and Ryan is very honest with his opinions. Strikes a perfect balance IMO

It's funny to hear that Fort Nine is a massive motorcycle gear store in Canada because I've been enjoying their content for a while now and didn't even know that so they're definitely not putting on the hard sell.
Same here but they do feature their products. Sold me on a Parts Unlimited battery....lol
It's all of social media. The social aspect is dissappearing as it reconverges with television and film to just become "media" again. We were truly doomed when they started calling the homepage a "content feed." Like we are all just mindless cows on a farm endlessly consuming.
Well said.
it's pretty simple to stop using it though. Once it turned into an advertisement app that lets you do some stuff, I just quit using all social media but I keep FB for marketplace.
@maguslascivious4980 yeah I quit cold turkey for the most part in 2015. Unless you consider youtube comments every few years social media. Haha
Penske owes you for 12 minutes of advertising.
Lmao!
I’m weak😂😂
Priceless !
Haha looks like I am not the only one wondering why I watched 10 min of a dude driving behind a truck. Looks like the version of the biker hell. " I sentenced you to drive behind a truck for the rest of time!!!!" 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Now I get it,. LOL
Yep. In the beginning CZcams was a great competitor to terrestrial television. Then they just became the same corporate, full of commercial content that made people sick of television.
Imo yt premium. It’s worth way more than $1 a day. No commercials. I haven’t watched real tv outside of a hotel in probably five years idk. And every time I see broadcast it HURTS bc I want to TALK about it to other people watching the same thing lol YT is the new tv.
Actually it was the absurdly woke content that made me hate tv, first it was anti men, then it was anti white , etc .
Maybe I just search for it, but it seems to me that while there is a lot of that, the other stuff is still out there. I still watch a lot of relatively non-professional stuff with views in the hundreds or low thousands that reminds me of the way the whole thing was 10 years ago
Even for New Small Car Channels, it's very difficult to survive against Content Farms or Corporations. I just keep at it though, I feel I just grazed by the gate in time.
I can't imagine trying to start now...knowing just how much the bar has been changed.
Holy shit bladed! Love your content man keep it up
This is happening all over youtube and I hate it.
Yep. "Consumption communities" is a name I've heard for it. People creating product reviews (thinly veiled commercials) so you buy crap you don't need.

I saw Ryan from Fort Nine at the 2020 Vancouver Motorcycle show. What I immediately noticed was how ridiculously tall he is, he's gotta be 6'4" at least.
They had me fooled. I thought his name was "Ryan Fortnine". Maybe because he introduces himself as , "Hi, I'm Ryan Fortnine!"
I think he says he's 6'3 in the videos
Love your channel. I am 55. Watched your videos, learned, got inspired, acquired safety gear, took MSF and bought some wheels (Hunter 350!!) in April. Happily squidding out now.
Keep up the good work.

YT is making it too difficult for creators! It bothers me to to hear creators say that they have to be careful of what they say or show because of the overlords on YT may demonetize them or reject their creation altogether. My motorcycle channels that I go to are Yammie Noob, Shade Tree Surgeon, and Motojitsu. These are very different channels with a simple message "get out and ride." Thank you Yammie for what you do.
One of my favorite channels, DanDanTheFireman, who shows how to ride safe by reviewing crash videos and close calls, really has to be careful to avoid demonization.
Aside from the amazing stories and production values of Fortnine videos is that the product reviews seem to be genuine and they will recommend items that they don't sell themselves
That is a reflection of the retail profile, Revzilla or a franchise store is a push method, they get a container of Alpine star jackets and review it to sell it then discount it. Fortnine is a pull method, they pick items and only sell those. Although there are hybrid versions of these and sub sections, such as drop ship. Ryan at F9 is there to guide the process, F9 don't need to stock a range of Alpine star jackets, just the one Ryan likes, such as the sunglasses he wears in each video.
Yes. They also will tell you that something they DO sell isn't good.
And if it is a piece of shit, Ryan will call it a piece of shit.
I'm a small creator and I've been following your content forever, decided to start making videos because of you and others, it's been fun! Keep up the good videos :)
Yup. Me too. It’s a hobby that I enjoy. Don’t really care how many views I get. Just capturing some memories
I'm doing the same haha. Making content just for myself though - if people like it, great, if not - just keep scrolling

What I think of with the changes in CZcams is like this. When a funky, cool area with a lot of cafes and clubs exists, and people come from all over town to hang out there. After a while, big chain stores and restaurants want in on that foot traffic, which drives up the rents, which forces out all the funky little places, leaving a corporate wasteland of sameness.
I really appreciated the transparency. It's not just the auto/ moto video category, it's everything. It seems like all these larger channels make videos just for the money, not the actual passion involved in making content and reaching a genuine audience.
The shilling has gotten out of control across the board. That's one of the major reason I watch this channel. I feel like I'm getting an honest, straight up opinion. I also watch for the relentless, scorched earth trolling...
I love that I got a RevZilla add right on que halfway through the video 😅
Advertising as the primary source of revenue always leads to the same place. Ens***ification. The content is the "hook" it exists only to get you to buy, not to educate or discuss. It's not just CZcams, it's Google, it's TV, it's... Well, nearly everything, ad after ad after ad, all paid or near paid sponsorships. It's sad.
My favorite type of motorcycle videos will always be the ones like this one. Just chatting while riding around!
Interesting points. I agree that Revzilla provides content around their inventory, Ryan at Fortnine generally does not promote merchandise, or even shopping at Fortnine. These seem like very different "corporate" approaches.
But the whole point of Fortnine was to highlight the products they sell or have aggregated for Canadian riders, the sunglasses are a good example. As Yammie said, no harm no foul, he has to make a buck like everyone else.
Insta 360 camera??
@@flatcapcaferacer As Ryan himself has stated, they will sell things/accept sponsorships for items not directly tied to motorcycling.
Idk the revzilla vids I watch are either some crazy adventure documentary with weird bikes or the shop manual or daily rider….last I checked revzilla doesn’t sell bikes. That being said I have bought from revzilla cause they make it so damn convenient. I do also enjoy the Highsode Lowside podcast. When the outright shill for stuff in a newly released episode it’s a bit annoying, but for the archive listeners searching that info out that’ll be worth gold, especially for new riders.
i miss the days of youtube when you could search mustang vs ... and then it would just show a bunch of street racing videos
I love the sound of the motorcycle you're using for this video. I don't watch much in the way of motorcycle content, Yammie Noob makes up 75% of the motorcycle videos I watch. Great video, it was very entertaining.
glad to hear that spite and you are talking :)
I'm really glad they're still friends after the whole thing.
Watching this channel made me go buy my first bike, now that I’m riding I only love the positive motorcycle vibe that much more.
These are the types of videos I like to watch, someone chilling on a bike and just talking. I get to learn something and see roads that I want to ride.
This is your best video, in my opinion in a while. From me, a small hobbyist creator you hit the nail on the head with this video and even could have left the word "Motorcycle" out of the title. A channel like mine that flies well under the attention of the algorithm I understand your point very well and you conveyed it perfectly in this old school vlog. Thank you..

Honestly, I hate clicking on a video and having to watch somebody tell me what the video is going to be about for a couple minutes, then watching the channel intro video for a minute, then coming back and listening to two more minutes about what I’m about to see, and then finally getting to the meat…. I appreciate the higher budget channels and the production value, but honestly, I just like to learn about the subject I clicked on…
I didn't realise that Fortnine was a big company! The content is so good but it always seems like its just him... I thought he was a CZcams genius before hearing this lol
I don't motovlog but I do talk to myself whenever I ride. 🤷🏻♂️
Some of these points are also valid beyond social media. Any time private equity comes into the picture, the quality of the product diminishes. We are seeing it now in healthcare (my field) and even real estate.
Completely agree, CZcams used to be a place where we broadcast ourselves. It's just weird for me to watch video that is too "professional". I used to have the feeling of being part of the video/viewer back then, nowadays i feels just like an animal on a strict farm.
Nb : I'm not vegan y'all
What a great video to see as a small motorcycle creator. As a small channel I am really trying to go for the hole authentic appeal as a small channel. Crazy to think one of the first motorcycle videos I watched was on this channel
lol yammie you’ve got everyone buying tickets to win your giveaway bikes and merch as well (I understand the merch)
I am glad to hear you still talk and ride with Spite. I was still under the impression that you guys were not on great terms.
You spoke directly to me as a small channel of about 300 subs. I never expect to make money, I just love the creative, imaginative aspect. Motovlogging gives me an outlet to use the beats that I produce. I’ve had plenty of haters and the way I see it, if my video doesn’t have at least one good hate comment or dislike, then I’m not doing it right. I try to just be as authentic as possible. And I love and appreciate every sub that I have. Wonderful video Yammie, I really like this break from your normal content.
Honestly, I like watching the smaller guys and channels. Usually, because they’ve sunk hard earned money into whatever thing they have. Not everyone can afford 11 different motorcycles a month to check out. So it’s nice when you get the super honest and candid feedback from someone who shelled out $18k for their squid missile only to realize they have back problems.
First and foremost, I love the content. Clearly you care about what you do, you are witty and funny as hell, and love what you do. Keep it up. You and your crew clearly read the room and what's going on around you. I enjoy the content immensely. Thanks brother.
I think it'd be idealistic if it were always up to the creator and the content they make, to rake in all the profits needed to consistently put out content, but at the same time, reality is that CZcams and internet content in general is the new contemporary media. If it were to gain any sort of validation in this capitalistic economy, it unfortunately requires a higher degree of financial management over artistic/creative management. Selling out is not longer looked down upon, instead is understood as a requirement for any independent to turn over into, unless they have essentially nothing to lose. It's tragic in a sense, but at the same time, I do think it's not impossible to still make creative works while still shilling for products, and often times creators try to be diligent with what they sell to align with what their content is meant to reflect. It sucks but comes with a lot of opportunities, online content creation is no longer a hobby/side hustle, it's a full time job or nothing now.
For the record this was a phenomenal video. You’re just a dude talking about what you know while riding. Good stuff. Not sarcastic that’s actually what CZcams needs. Like that old guy reviewing a lawn mower. I get it
I watched every last min of this video which I can’t say for a lot of content that I consume nowadays including motorcycle content. I’ve been watching you since 2017 when i first discovered bikes and I’ve been riding now since 2019. Some of my bike purchases (such as my fav bike, street triple) have been heavily influenced by your content and your lack of selling your soul to a big company. Love what you do with the community and the new rep you’ve grown for yourself since the whole Porsche thing 😂
For those companies that are commerce first, AdSense is not even an "accounting error," it's essentially funds that go towards the overhead of their marketing budget, effectively giving them a totally free marketing team and content.
CZcams now is like walking through the fair. You never know what they will try to sell you next. example, i was on a motorcycle channel and they tried to sell me gooch cream :P
I wish we could comment on the commercials... 😅
I ordered that same fender eliminator for my 8r from the same place you got yours and was surprised you had no promo code. I tried different ways with your name. You should have that if you're using them imo. You deserve the kickback because I wouldn't have known about them without your video.
In my area of CZcams, corporations pump out one or two videos a day on multiple channels basically pushing independent creators out of the game.
I just bought my 1st bike this weekend ninja 500. & I’m excited with what’s to come!
This was a fun video. I enjoyed listening to your commentary, while you took us on a very interesting ride. I kind of felt like I was riding along...
Agreed with all these points, love the back to basics motovlog approach from you, makes me feel a few years younger again 😅
Been watching you for years man, been riding about 10 years myself, and may have too many bikes including a wrecked gen1 daytona😅... Still a🦑at heart and still watch all of you videos. Its sad to hear YT is making it so damn hard for the little guy but keep up the amazing work my dude!
"Old timer who bought something and made a video about it " That hits really close to home for me 😂 I've done everything from luggage reviews for my bike to a debate on whether bigfoots penis is a red rocket like a dog or a big furry dangler. After the channel relaunch after it was taken down a few years ago it has basically turned into a trip inside the mind of a 50 year old man with ADHD. 😂
Are you me, how ..huh ?
As someone looking to get started…I am discouraged. I just want to ride and share the good times and the bad times. It’s enriching to learn from others and inspire each other, no need to buy much at all. The riches are in the knowledge and experience not the fancy equipment or shiniest new bike.
Well said buddy.
I love learning new words, and enshitification is a fucking brilliant one!
I've also noticed I've been getting small creators pushed to me more in just about every genre of video I watch - it's been nice. I don't have my bike (yet, getting that money saved up) and I watch motorcycle content to learn and get my motorcycle fix in the mean time. I don't enjoy being constantly sold to - when I'm ready to look into specific gear and such to buy I will purposefully seek that content out, but otherwise I just want vibes.
This is another great Yammienoob video. As usual, I love your honesty and candidness of what you do. Ari and Zach are great and so is Ryan. However, I’ve probably watched and followed your channel more than either revzilla or fortnine. With that being said, the revzilla video of Ari and Zach dual sporting on vintage bikes in Montana or Wyoming is awesome and Ryan always has some fantastic engineering for us to geek out on. Tdubbs kid is cool too if you have a fascination with the TW 200. As usual, thanks for all your hard work. Oh yea, let me throw in that ct 90 guy. He makes some pretty adventurous and entertaining content.
I live in PA.. I’d die without you warm weather content producers. I can only ride comfortably like 7-8 months a year.. the other 4-5 months I need ma fix!!!
I get you Yammie. I had a dream to become a YTer for gaming but it's hard for me to justify putting so many hours into it. It really is a GRIND. Maybe, at some point I will try again. When I get my bike, too! Also, I do enjoy these live commentary vids. Remind me of the 2013 era of YT. RIDE SAFE
After I became monetized I met my personal goal on this platform. The doe is slow and the pay is low, but at this point, my videos are more for my family and friends to look back on and enjoy, not to make money. I do it because it's fun making videos even though I suck....
It's interesting viewing it compared to legacy stuff, like magazines. There's a reason they all settled on a monthly publication. There's in reality only so much that happens in a focused area (ie motorcycles.) CZcams presses for daily content.. seriously, how much really changed in 24 hours? I'm happier with fewer vids with real content, not just filler to feed the algos. Anyway, really enjoy your channel, Spite's, and all the work y'all and your people put into it.
I'm a small content creator (that would like to be bigger!), I have to fit it around two jobs. I've come under criticism for one or two things, remember getting a derogatory comment about a review I did on the 2020 Africa Twin because they couldn't hear me properly at a small section where I was doing motorway speeds.
Find myself reminding them, that much as I love to do this I have other priorities right now. Like covering living costs!
The problem with corporate influence in CZcams and everywhere else is when they eventually dominate a market they immediately begin to run at bare minimums to chase every penny and have no competition to worry about. The eventual outcome of continual growth is monopoly.
Great points🌟im glad someone can step up and be real about the growing YT corporate problem
CZcams to me was always a resource to evaluate the bikes I was interested in. I don't want to be sold anything, I don't want to see stupid crap being done and I just want honesty and facts with a genuine person. Motorcycles are fun and are supposed to be enjoyed. As I've gotten older I realize more and more that life is so short and you need to enjoy it. I personally enjoy sharing videos! Its not a job its just fun! Nice video man! I enjoyed this very much! Stay Safe
I've noticed this too. I've been shopping for an adventure bike, specifically looking at the Yamaha T7. The amount of content creators receiving this bike on the terms of a sponsorship makes me question the legitimacy of the reviews.
And many of the people who receive the bike are usually very very skilled riders. Not representative of an average rider's skillset but it's there to convince buyers "if i buy this, I can do this too" on a 450lb motorcycle. Just flinging these bikes around jumps and singing the bikes' praises. Marketing knows their audience. It's effective, but it seems ingenuine.
13:50 and by the way, I love your format. Even the way that I can tell you must have a pool you pull from for the daily videos on which ones you have not done in a while. I love the classical music, the updates on old formats and intros, and countless times you have sent me down a rabbit hole with the fact of the day. And I get a little excited when I recognize you recorded another 'keep watching" bit for the end. If you're looking for an atta boy, well, the Hunter S. Thompson remark was it. (I call Brian from RCR the Hunter S. Thompson of the car world).. you're doin great man -- your wife would leave you if you weren't .....keep it up*****************hahah - I will assume that you read my previous comment, since I assumed you would remove it anyway. but this one you can leave up, I hope. like I said - Keep. It. Up. If you feel your time should have come and hasn't, there is always the chance you are living in your moment. But more than likely, you are being impatient. you can't tell beginner riders to be patient and not practice what you preach.
It's the same in every industries, competition tend to kill the small players. But lack of new channel/participants is what kills the platform on the long run. There is only that much gear someone can wear and only that many products reviews someone can watch. I'd rather watch small channel like the guy who went of roadding with his Hayabusa 😂😂 Or mechanic fixing some 20 years old bikes. Stuff like that. Or even God forbid yammienoobs videos 😁 ( really enjoyed your Himalayan review video for instance, good content nice landscape and overall something different). Anyways this comment is way too long, ill keep coming back here for more motorcycle content 🙏
Now that I’ve started riding I appreciate seeing u ride safely and skill fully
It's been 8 years since I started riding and have used review content to help buy a lot of gear over that time, more so later on as the amount of choice has sky rocketed it's a golden age. But being outside of the states I then choose the cheaper outlet online or a local shop to try on said gear before buying it. Thats great, that's what those channels do and those big companies should stay in their lane. I've watched ol yamms here because it was relatable and motivational to ride more as he express's the fun things that is motorcycles Your authentic and that's what gets the views. It comes down to a trust triangle Facts/information, empathy and authenticity.
example: watch a review it's got the facts a good product name brand and all about it's construction. Their authentic (a real shop "realish riders") it's not a dodgy third world broken English accent person talking. Only leaving them being empathic which if they just shout "BUY MY GEAR from XX large company" your less likely to trust them. which they do so instead they've done these "ride videos" to appear more empathic, right they riders to we "care"
started watching you, fortnine and Motojitsu becasue I wanted to buy my first-ever bike. Finally got the ninja 500 last month and I love it
My biggest grievance with youtube is when they changed how adds worked and forced content creators to make 10 minute long videos as a minimum. Most videos don't need to be that long. So they all feel really padded out.
Solid video, I most decent context and am growing slowly … thinking of getting a cycle and starting a tube too
Perfection is the path to failure. I use CZcams to educate viewers on the New Braunfels Tx area. I certainly don't try to over produce my videos.
Thanks for you content Yam.
especially the it came from Craigslist/Facebook! Love it
It depends who you watch. Lets just say, channels like gixxer brah are definitely not corporate.
Weird how I was thinking the exact same thing watching Ryan's video on airbags and Zach and Spurg's on safety equipment. All I was thinking was, well, I guess their corporate masters really want to sell airbags. Unfortunately, now we're probably going to get airbag content shoved down our throats.
The F9 airbag push is what really turned me off that channel. Anything to do with safety equipment that has a "buy this from us angle" is absolutely distasteful since it is literally potentially risking your viewers' lives to make a few bucks.
My channel is pretty much just a hobby that partially pays for itself, the funny part is that some of my friends want me to do heavy maintenance to their bikes for free (Ducati desmo service….or anything Ducati related 😂) because “you going to make a video out of it, right?”😅
Indeed it has changed a lot since I started in 2012. Its most sales and promotion, reviews are basically paid advertisement and not to be trusted. At least you are funny 😄
Matt Moran Motoring just had to sell his Mustang GT Bullet. So sad to watch. Then there’s channels like Chaseontwowheels who loves every bike he rides…
As someone who's seriously considering starting my own motorcycle channel this was very helpful, thanks! I just got my first gopro and have just started shooting some content.
I loved thos video, raw and unfiltered thoughts. The middle section where you compared full time YouTubing qith coding resonated with me as a software engineer. Don't think I could do CZcams full time as a creator at this stage in my life.
Very well said man!!! I truly appreciate you staying real and genuine
I miss the turbo busa. Was listening to one of the build episodes and man that bike spoke to me
Back on the SLED!!! Oh yeah!!
The frustrating thing about youtube is that when you are a small channel, but you are willing to put time and effort in your videos you are still in the same boat or more often below people who are doing reactions (AKA stealing other people's content) so you made a few shorts with good results and then youtube decided that the next one only gets 45 views or so, because they chose a bad timing or a group of people. But I get it takes time I guess...
I thought i was just getting random tiny channel video recommendations. Good to hear im not the only one. Theres some diamonds in the rough, but most you can tell why they havent taken off
Younger viewers will have never known the “old days” of you tube, so strange.
I tried to do the YT thing once (documenting the resurrection of a $100 Aprilia). I *quickly* learned that despite having all the passion possible for doing the motorcycle work, the GRIND of shooting the video sapped all the joy right out of me. I think I filmed for 2 or 3 days and gave up filming (not really intentionally, I just realized I'd been working without filming).
MASSIVE respect gained for those who do produce videos, but I suspect that YT is for camera/video people who also have an interest in something else.
I agree. Once I made the decision to sell my home, I’ve watched a ridiculous amount of motorcycle content. I’m in Moto-limbo, where I can’t buy my bike until my house is sold. I am living through you Yammie.
Same thing has happened with hoonigan too, used to feel more personal and relatable videos but now they have gotten so corporate guys are leaving and just doing there own thing
I love learning from others and adding to it and living it out..like you say Im just a guy on CZcams. But in the end you educated me to buy my first motercycle and some proper gear, basic tips on riding, maintenance and made it fun and enjoyable and probably safer then if I did it alone beings really none of my friends or family ride...I seriously would of never bought a ninja 400 but because of some of your reviews on it as a beginner bike that's what I went with and I just love that little guy......thanks yammie good stuff👍
The content you create is great. Keep it up. Video production is very hard work. I primarily choose bike (and gear) reviews about bikes that interest me. When I find a dude that seems to appreciate things that resonate with me, I keep coming back. Revzilla? I watch his driving to work reviews. FortNine? Love his insights and humor. Big Rock Moto. 1000PS. Finally, I enjoy watching people grow and mature as human beings and riders. Again: kudos to you and your team: Keep the YOU in CZcams!
I don’t have any answers but I appreciate that channels like yours and chaseon2wheels still try your best. Keep up the good work
I’ve never watched revzilla or donut but I watched f9 because it reminds me of the old top gear show of how they film and they make the info entertaining while throwing math formulas for helmet testing I watch the yammie for more blunt info I think every channel has its place
I do believe these company’s into CZcams is not new it’s just more well known when CZcams was in its infancy on the gaming side of the platform atleast there were mcm company’s employing the CZcamsrs you may see the name on the channel but a lot of times mcm’s owned the rights this was before ad sharing and monetization
I'm a Harley and Indian rider and love the constant jabs from Yammie. Ultimatley riders are riders and it should be all in good fun and I hate to see the HD guys in particular trash other riders for what they ride or whatever. Besides Yammie Noob, my favorite motorcycle channel is Harley Geezer. An old guy in Florida with about 5K subscribers who is like talking with your grandpa whos been riding way longer than you've been alive. No negative talk on anyone just a chill conversation and maybe some minor product reviews with no sponsorship and corporate manipulation. And Gixxerfoo... love him too. Two of the videos I really look forward to every Friday. HD centric for sure but no negative BS cuz we all get enough of that these days.
I really enjoyed this subject. I am a small creator, and yes, it is much more work than a person would think it would be. I do enjoy doing it. Owning and operating your own business is already stressful, then throw youtube into the mix it can add even more stress. I keep my channel real and no fabricated drama, and it will stay that way even if my channel grows slow. Have a wonderful day, and thanks for your videos. I know your videos take a ton of work and time.
That's a pretty riding day, also I appreciate the talk , and yes you content creators really have guts leaving an ordinary job to do what you people do, now that's not easy.👍👍👍👍👍
yes I agree Yammie its really hard to start up and sustain the number of views.
