I use and love these leaders for almost all fishing except still water chironomid fishing. I still use a tapered leader for that because I use a Tapered Slip Strike indicator

pretty good explanation of furled leaders and use... but.. tapered leaders really aren`t that difficult to unwind. Just insert two fingers..spread the loop apart..then unwind from the end..nice vid though and ty

    Love your leaders.
Tell your camera people to frame a shot like this with the subject's head near the top of the shot, not in the middle. It'll make it seem like they know what they're doing. ;)

Are these for nymph fishing? I have seen that people like them because they also serve as a strike Indicator. Is that the main purpose?

I'm curious about furled leaders but there is an important question that I can't seem to find an answer to: how do you attach a fly to the leader? I know that may sound like a stupid question, but this key information doesn't seem to be available anywhere. There's a loop at the end of the furled leader, so how much tippet do you use between the end of the leader and the fly? What size tippet?
This video (and every other one I've found) just "assumes" that I'm supposed to know what to do with the looped or ringed end of the furled leader.

Larry, he said in the video to attach 4 feet of your chosen tippet size (5x for example) to your leader. I like to use my 9' rod to help me measure on the water. Put your leader just coming out of the last eye, then pull it down the rod. Then add enough tippet to get to the end of your rod handle. If you want a 10' leader in total, add another foot. Hope that helps. It works with all the furled leaders.

Thank you, Jarod: that answers my question.

3 to 4 feet of 5X to 7X tippet. Tie a Perfection loop in the end of the Tippet. Tie a Loop to Loop knot from the furled leader loop to the tippet loop. Tie the fly using what ever fly knot you use already.

surely the furled leader will spook a trout if it travels over a fish?

no you will be amazed how they dont! If you cast them with some slack it really helps eliminate or delay drag for ace presentation.

Do you tie on one size of tippet or do you need to tapper the tippet size as well

most of the time, if 5x works, just use straight 5x. if you need to use 6 or 7x, use 3 feet of 5x and then 18" of 6 or 7x.... hope that helps.

I suppose the question I'm asking myself is "Do I really want to be buying a leader from a person who doesn't have the knowledge that you open a tapered leader by uncoiling the thick end first". I don't think so.

  • @adventureswithfrodo2721

I know you are selling your product but you really show ignorance in showing lack of knowledge in straightening a mono leader. Also you need to shoe the down side of a fueled leader, i.e. what happens when you break free a snag. Can be far worse the untangling a mono leader.
But I'll go make some new fueled leaders as I do like them.
