I just re-read The Secret Garden for the third or fourth time. The older I get (I'm 55), the more I seem to enjoy it. Reading it along with 12-year- olds is pretty wonderful, too. ❤
I can imagine how reading it with them is simply magical 🥰
The Secret Garden holds a special place in my heart. My dad read it to me for the first time after my third open heart surgery. I’m going to have to reread it and read it to my kids! Love the recommendations. I’ll for sure be adding a few to my tbr list! Thank you. 💕

Two totally different books, but both certainly worth it!
The Yellow Wallpaper is one that gets better the more you read it in my opinion.
I find it more claustrophobic each time I read it
I will definitely be coming back to this, great list!
This year i'll be throwing in a bit more Agatha Christie into the mix cause i read them 10+ years ago and it's time for a reread

You could continue forever! 😊 There are so many excellent classics, especially if you also count modern classics….the choice is endless

Anna Karenina and Moby Dick are two classics on my 2024 list.
Highly recommend Stoner by John Williams as an overlooked American classic!

I read The Bell Jar in my twenties, and I have a necklace that says, "I am."
Other books I would love to reread: To Kill a Mockingbird, Little Women, and The Lord of the Rings Trilogy.

@cafeaulivre Definitely, mine too! My Dad bought me the abridged version when I was 10 years old. I read it on repeat, then when I was older, I fell in love with the adult version, lol.

Danny the Champion of the World was one of my all time favourites as a child 🥹
And the thing with Danny is I now read it in a different way than I did when I was a child, and still I love that book to bits! 🥰
@@cafeaulivre I have it on my shelves to reread, but in the Irish language, so I've been putting it off a bit because my Irish is rusty at best. I'm sure reading it as a father now is a wonderful experience 😊
Great recommendations , you’ve listed some of my absolute faves and I love Rumi ❤ I have jotted down maya angelou and James Baldwins book as I did enjoy giovannis room , and a book I have never heard of before Elizabeth and her German garden .. and this year I MUST get to Dracula , I feel a bit bad that I have never got to it being born and bred Irish … it is a book celebrated by a festival held in bram stokers name every year here , but I’m glad you picked it over dr jekyl because if I’m frank about it , that book bored me to tears 😂

Wat een mooie diverse lijst! Ik wil mss wel Virginia Woolf proberen 👀 ook het gilgamesj staat al lang op mijn leeslijst! Mijn favoriete Dahl is trouwens De fantastische meneer Vos. Daantje zet ik dan ook maar op mij tbr 😂
Daantje is zowat de vreemde eend: totaal geen magische of fantastische elementen, maar oh zo mooi!
The Bell Jar is great. Yellow Wallpaper is not for the feint of heart. It's a great story and should be read but it is psychology brutal. Gilgamesh is just fantastic.
Oh, I agree, it is a spiral of abuse and psychological torment!
I strongly recommend to read a victorian classical novel" The Gadfly" by E. L. Voinich. It is an absolutely brilliant book!

I want to read Anna Karenina so badly, I own it but I need to find the courage to pick it up. My priority classic for 2024 is to read Dune, so that is definetly my priority.
I found Dune a challenge tbh. The worldbuilding is vast 😳

Anna karenina is a definitely masterpiece but no need to be intimidated.
As a matter of fact, there are few classics I would say should intimidate a reader.
