- The Canadian $1 coin, or "Loonie," as it's known (due to the coin featuring the common loon), has been minted since 1987, and there are lots of intersting things we can look for, includeing low-mint issues, commemorative coins, and even colourized varieties. This particlar box came from a local laundromat. Let's see what comes up through the wash!

Thanks, Ogir! I'm not sure exactly why the Mint chose to make the non-colourized lower mint coins. The general public will know they have something special with the colourized ones - perhaps they wanted to do something special for collectors?
@@CADRollHunter Maybe to throw off the non-collectors. The general public will probably want the flashy ones, the colored ones without realizing that the uncolorized ones are scarcer.

I'm almost done with all of my US coin books for modern stuff but it's tough to get Canadian coins near me. My family is going to Michigan for a family visit in a couple of weeks but based on the rolling of the eyes, I don't think my wife is gonna drive to Canada to pick up coin boxes for me. (Yes, I asked)

I found a parks canada loonie metal detecting, its a bit rough, but in really good shape if you consider I found it in dirt

Hey James, irrelevant to loonies but anyway i was wondering do you still get horizontal $10 banknotes in circulation?
Most of the banknotes I see in circulation are the standard, horizontal ones. I still see the vertical Viola Davis ones in circulation, as well.

That’s a nice loonie hunt. I found a 2010 loonie in circulation low mintage but I’m considering spending it because it is in bad shape. Do you think I should keep or spend?
