Florida is another huge state that varies greatly depending on where you go. The wide northern portion called "The Panhandle" which borders Alabama and Georgia is still very "Southern"... Accents, way of life, etc. South Florida is full of Latin and Carribean influences. The East Coast is vastly different from the Gulf Coast... And then there's tons in between.

And most of it is bat-s**t crazy and interesting--except for the gun laws. Lived in Tallahassee for 5 years--essentially South Georgia. Friends in Tampa--essentially older Northerners moved south. Wife from Miami--very much tropical, cuban-latino and old school northerners who moved in the 40s and 50s, mostly. Love the gator farms.

People like to bash Florida as weird and it’s no weirder than any other state. There are more transplanted residents in this state so weird is not relative to the state. The beach coastlines, beautiful weather, and tropical foliage draws a lot of tourists and potential newbies.

Yep, the sand on on the gulf side are white and powdery. Clearwater beach has "clear" water as the name implies. In some the water room temperature. I grew up going there. When my family moved to Maryland, and I got in the Atlantic ocean for the first time, I was so disappointed. Waves that knock you down, but not big enough for surfing. Water is so cold it turns your legs blue, Sand is brown, and the water is brownish blue. Gulf coast beaches can't be beat!

I can assure you, being from Miami that isn’t the real Miami. Florida is one of the most diverse states in the country. That bridge she is under we used to jump off, that’s Haulover Inlet. That’s a mural not graffiti. Back in the day it was illegal to go nude, although people used to nude bath there and they tolerated it. Since so many people were using it, they finally relaxed the laws. That was our beach, everyone from Hialeah went there. That beach is a North Beach, compared to South Beach and it’s a much better beach if you’re going there to swim. Don’t worry the water is warm. My old stomping grounds, I could tell some stories.

I've been to Marche aux puces in Paris, which is 'market of fleas' which I THINK is why American's call it a flea market. In France it referred to the fleas that could be in the old upholstery of the tatty old chairs sold street side, in a market, thus the 'market of fleas' and thus Flea market. Could be a wives tale, but it is true that is what it is called in France as well.

Have been to Haulover multiple times myself and as Irish Girl commented, the uniqueness wears off pretty quickly because everyone's naked so it starts to feel normal. This particular beach is sanction by the county government, is family friendly, has lifeguards, security, food concessions, parking, showers, restrooms, and chair and umbrella rentals. In season it does get pretty crowded yet there's always room for more. What's really fun about it is that given it's proximity to the city (a half hour to the south actually) you will see all kinds of people from all walks of life and all ages.

The deep sea fishing is amazing because you don’t have to go too far off the coast to hit the deep blue waters. Key west is nice and the Everglades for weekend trips. The different cultural foods are amazing. I do miss the food since I moved. The mural might have been in the art district area, not sure. The Zorro that I remember was via Disney back in the '50s, and was a man dressed in black, including an eye mask and cape, in Spanish California. His name was Don Diego de la Vega, and he had a sword rather than a gun. If you want to check it out: Zorro 1957--1959 Opening and Closing Theme. All of the kids at that time loved it.

I live across the state from Miami in the Naples area. I personally do not particularly enjoy Miami, I come from a smal town just north of Naples, so to me Miami is extremely overwhelming, again I live in a small town. I have a home on 5 acres of land, a good size veg, fruit and herbs garden, 13 chickens with a 450sqft Chicken coop and a nice long chicken run. Its not safe where I live to just let your chickens run wild in your yard otherwise a hawk, bobcat or many other prey will make them their meal. I live 8 miles from the beautiful beaches of the Gulf of Mexico, where the water in our area is beautiful, blue warm, calm and the sand is soft and white. It's truly paradise. It is just a bit of a culture shock to nonfloridians when the summer months roll around, June - September and sometimes our Octobers are really hot and muggy but not as hot as mid August, so we essentially have zero Autumn here.
I am also biased to my part of Florida because I am 4th generation born and raised in our small town. The land I live on I bought back in 2006 with my late husband when we were in our early 20s. We paid 28k for the 5 acre plot then built our home for $250k the following year. My home now values at $1.8 million.
They now sell the nearby land in plots of 1.25 acres for $250k-$400k each. I wouldn't even be able to afford to live where I currently do, had we not been smart enough to buy the land before the area was diacovered and built up around.

I grew up in Miami Beach, I’ve been ALL over the world and I absolutely recommend Miami. I see people here commenting saying no but Miami has things and experiences you’ll get absolutely no where else. It’s a very specific vibe that exists no where else in the world and the international mix of people and food is beyond world class. Now if you’re 70 maybe do Sarasota instead. Go to Miami, do lots of brunches and people watching on Lincoln Road is the absolute best. She was riding her bike off Haulover Inlet I grew up 5 blocks from there and grew up boating in the sandbar on the intracoastal side and surfing on the ocean side. Plus in high school that parking lot is where all the kids from North Miami Beach and Miami Beach High School used to congregate at night to tail gate and show off their cars.
Also, so what’s funny about that beach is it’s basically broken down in to three segments South of the Pier is surfing because the Jetty there is one of the few places you can catch waves year round due to the inlet and jetty. Once you pass the pier going North it’s the nude beach and it’s been a nude beach all my life and I was born in the 70’s. Just past the nude beach the beach has wide grassy knoll covered in picnic tables and huge free barbecue grills. Families try to get there early so they can grab one of the grills and that whole enormous part of the beach just past the little nude area becomes just packed with families that are there for cookouts and a beach day but never does anyone who’s not nude venture to the nude area other then to use the paved pathway to get to the pier for refreshments, fishing etc. Everyone has always been really respectful of the nude area and knows just not to venture there.

Miami has tons of hispanic/Cuban influence. That's cool in its own right, but it's a unique experience compared to a lot of the rest of the US. Destin, FL (near Tallahassee) has some really nice beaches and a lot of cool little boating and marine excursions that you can go on. Most places along the coast probably do though.

Florida has the best beaches in the country. If you want a tropical vacation, Florida is a good destination. Its a completely different culture from "the south", but that's true for all of our regions. There will be areas within that region that have their own culture seperate from the whole. Louisiana is another example of that. There's some good historical sites in Florida as well. It all depends on what you want to see first.

Florida has the most beautiful beaches, and the state is a peninsula so, there is roughly 600 miles of beaches from one side and up around to the otherside. No two beaches are alike and depending on where you go, the sand can be sugar white, sand colored, or broken shells and sand. I think it has the most a state can offer in things to do. Miami has the most diverse food, from many different cultures and countries. You can swim with the dolphins somewhere around St. Petersburg I believe on the west coast of Florida. I grew up in Orlando (don't waste your time there) and I miss Florida very very very much!!!!!

But if you've ever been curious to try Cuban, Puerto Rican, Dominican, Peruvian, Colombian, Venezuelan, Argentinian, Brazilian...(Well, all of South American and Central America and of course the Caribbean). Then Miami is the place to go! Try some or try them all, you won't regret it! The vast array of things to do and places to visit will keep you busy. She's a beautiful city! I miss her.

My little family lived in a small town in NC in the Blue Ridge Mtns for more than a doz. yrs. Every summer, then again in winter, we would get what the locals called "Snowbirds". Residents from FL, NY, NJ, etc who were fortunate enough to be able to leave their homes in those states & come up for several months to a more comfortable climate. But, yeah, whether you choose the word weird or crazy, they ALL are different! A few streets were clearly marked, "ONE WAY" with an arror showing the direction to drive. Every year we'd have at least 1 accident when a driver wasn't watching for road/street signs. The most tragic part about them not obeying signs was at some of the waterfalls in Pisgah Forest (30 minutes away). The warning signs telling them not to climb in that area was ignored by several with at least 1 death a year. There was a really fun place called Sliding Rock (look it up) that emptied into a swimming hole close by that would have been safe & cooled them off. FUN!

We'd visited there many times and always enjoyed it, including Surfside, Haulover, and Lincoln Rd. In fact she graduated from UM so was more used to South Fla than I was but in the end we decided against it, for a variety of reasons, not the least of which was that little bit of humidity that shows up from May thru Oct.

Miami Beach is beautiful but the actual Beach called Miami Beach is very party oriented. Not a place for families or older folks. There are a lot of barley existent swim suits and people like to party a lot. To me it wasn't very relaxing. I'd go to the beaches a little further north. Saying that, the variety of food choices are so great. Columbian, Cuban, American, Chinese, seafood, ... I can't even remember them all. I love Cuban coffee and the fried plantains are so good.
The architecture is a mix of art deco and modern styles so just driving around is nice. There are public bikes all over so you just download an app to buy a weekly pass . You can scan the code on the bike. This is useful because parking is a premium. If you aren't going far, bikes or walking is a great option.

Florida has some of the most beautiful beaches you would ever see… my favorite is Destin Florida and Panama city beach 🏖️ but if you want something for City like with delicious restaurants, clubs and the best bakeries 🧁 you have to go to South beach. I’m from Texas, we stayed a week in south beach 🏝️ and we quickly created a routine of morning beach walks, stopping at our favorite Italian cafe and bakery to get food and coffee and just going swimming for hours 🥰 it was awesome. I wouldn’t like living in Miami (To crow it) 😖 but South because is beautiful. I’m a Texans girl and I love my peace and quiet 😅 Miami it’s too loud for me. 😂

There's an entire neighborhood that's clothing optional "nude" they have shopping centers, grocery stores & different businesses (a/c, plumbing, electricians, repairs etc) in the community!! It's in the outskirts of Tampa, close to the county borders of NPR & LOL! People who're familiar with those town abbreviations will understand. But it's really weird going there to sign up businesses for advertising & you see men & women (typically older) riding bikes around or walking around with their twigs & berries flappin in the breeze!! Definitely an experience I'll NEVER forget!! They have a security guard gate you go through in order to get in with guards there, not allowed to just enter to (look around) but why would you!?!?

There is a lot of things you don't understand about Miami, the traffic in Miami is garbage, anywhere in downtown you have to pay for parking and it gets pricey, when the best parts are in the rural areas and away from the towering buildings, the nature around Miami is better in my opinion.

Went to Miami/ Fort Lauderdale for the first time in 2002. Our host took us to their Flea Market. Kid you not, a MAN vigorously waved me down in what seemed to be a Barbar shop area. He was 1 of several big muscular dudes standing there, so I thought he was trying to hit on me. We kept walking. NOPE! He was trying to arch my eyebrows 😅😂 In those days, not many straight guys were doing eyebrows in South Texas. Culture shock #1.
2nd Shock- People who looked like me spoke everything except English 😂 💪🏾 It really was cool.
3rd- I'm an extremely picky eater (ARFID), and our host took us to an authentic Jamaican restaurant. I just ordered fried fish to be simple. They brought out a fish with LIPS😂 Dawg! I thought it would be square and fried. NOPE! Then, a big Jamaican man was staring intensely from behind the kitchen door to see if I ate it (im guessing). The whites of his eyes were yellow, and he didn't return any of my nervous smiles.😂 😬
I took it to go. LMAO
LOVED THE TRIP! It was my first time leaving Tx.
