But âwhy is no one talking about chatty GRWMâ videos anymore. Theyâre all talking about YT is dead but just sit down, apply your makeup and Iâll watch. I still love them. Allana I could listen to you chat all day.
Same!!
Yes!!!!
Exactly!!!
I agree. â€
Happy 10th Year Anniversary. â€â€â€
Your honesty about this topic is so refreshing. I feel like nothing is authentic anymore and so loaded with product placement/ads that is hard to watch/follow certain people. You continue to be one of the most real people on YT and IG! Thank you for being you!
You canât control what anyone else does, but I donât think youâll ever regret holding onto your personal integrity. Happy YT-iversary and keep being the Allana we love to watch!
To whoever is reading this keep going, you're doing fine! No matter how slow your progress, each new week is filled with tiny steps forward. Be proud of yourself you got this! â€
Thanks đ„čâ€ïž
I completely agree with what you said about product ads. Honesty and integrity are very important to me. I feel that more people (celebrities included) should share and be proud that they get to advertise when and if they like a product. But many of them (that get paid fairly) have a privilege that most people donât have. There shouldnât be a sneaky âcatchâ to it. I truly appreciate when influencers disclose that they have partnered with a brand, have a sponsorship with a brand, or have created an ad with a brand. I also like to see the person re-use stuff they say âthey likeâ to show they actually enjoy it.
Omg has it really been 10 years!? Insane. Iâve been with you since the beginning and itâs been so much a pleasure watching you grow into such a confident and smart 30!!!! year old. Congrats Lan! Youâre killing it and Iâm excited to keep cheering you on. â€ïž
I can't speak for Vogue videos that run on youtube, but in television and film, product placement has been happening for decades. Traditionally in television and film it's not about selling a product. For instance, let's say you're watching a medical show (before your time - but Chicago Hope or St. Elsewhere or ER), you may not notice that many "Doctors" are wearing Nike. That's product placement - wherein the props or costume department (or the production company) have an agreement with Nike who provide product in return for exposure. But it's not a commercial or an Ad. Back in the day (again, before your time) one of the larger product placement deals included commercials (one of the Back to the Future films) where not only did the character drink Pepsi in the film (a common placement) but the footage from the film was in the commercial. In some cases, the company being "placed" actually pays the production company a fee to be in the film/television program. The FTC appears to have limited jurisdiction, ie, they can make suggestions, but they don't seem to have the ability to enforce over these bodies.
Another very well-know franchise that deeply participates in production placement is the Bond series. Cars, watches, clothing, alcohol, etc.
Yesss so much good info thank you!! đđ it would be so fascinating to see the behind the scenes and where the money trail ends with it all đ
@@allanaramaa In the case of productions - either no money, placement is exposure or a company pays the production company for placement which will either off-set production or marketing costs (a mere drop in the bucket as these costs are very high), sometimes the company is obligated to produce and buy air time for national spots (pricey) as part or all of payment for being placed in a film. This is only for films known to have potential to be big hits, or installments of proven hits (Bonds, Marvels, Harry Potters, etc). The take away is these truly are situations where both parties bring value and come away with what the want. It's mutually beneficial.
Great comment. Industry personal here, product placement in film and tv is apples to oranges when comparing to CZcams/influencers.
It is soo uncomfortable and awkward to me when blatant product placement isnât disclosed. I never noticed it as a teen but Iâm almost 30 now and totally see it. Congratulations and happy 10 year anniversary!!! Well deserved success after so many years of impressive hard work. No idea how you do every day May, Lanmas, and regular content in between đ”âđ« you go girl (and Dan!)
Omg when I was sitting in the Barbie movie I turned to my fiancĂ© and whispered âsponsored by Chryslerâ I see it all the time too and Iâm so happy you did a video on this! Down to the Vogue âwhatâs in my bagâ videos. I always love how most of the products look brand new too when they pull them out to talk about them đ Youâre the best Allana! Thanks for keeping it real, always! đ
AâŠ. Iâm 58 and just started curling my eyelashes about a year ago. I said exactly the same things that you say! It cracks me up because itâs so true.
Now. After curling my eyelashes daily I donât even notice it. It

Cracking me up!
Love youâ€ïžâ€ïž
I wished you would discover the world of korean/Japanese skincare! I think your skin would thrive using their hydrating, nourishing skin barrier promoting products. Congratulations on your career milestone Allana!
Thank you so much â€â€ please give me brand and product recommendations and I would love to!!
@@allanaramaaI really love CosRx for skincare! Especially the Advanced Snail Mucin Essence - fantastic for dry skin

I always love how honest you are and you sharing the other side of influencers. I think no matter who you are you should disclose if it is sponsored or not, specially if your a celebrity and have a much higher follow. Doesnât sit well with me either!
Iâm dying over the lip, that combo is stunning!!â€
Happy 10 years on CZcams! Not sure if I have been with you 10 years but pretty darn close to it! My favorite oldie but goodie was your Fall Drugstore Makeup Tutorial from 5 years ago! And I'm not even a drugstore makeup fan! You were just a baby but even then had mad makeup skills!
Happy 10 years!!! Iâm so happy for you â€ïžâ€ïž! The topics talked about were all very interesting and 100% make sense! I could listen to you talk for ever !! Love these videos đ
I use to read magazines religiously for beauty updates, YT revolutionised my life for that! I have favourite YT channels that a trust, and I donât care if itâs sponsored or not because I know itâs an honest review. I donât always feel the same (as people, we are all different!) but I love being made aware of specific products! New or old. And you are one of my favourites - happy 10 years!
Congratulations on 10 yearsđ Iâve been following you since you lived in Calgary and it is crazy how fast time flies! Itâs been awesome following you through the seasons of life!
Lan, happy anniversary! 10 years of being a boss girl! So proud of you! While I am not here from the start, I never miss a video from the moment I discovered you and I do feel like weâre friends 𫶠as for the look, for quite some time, I deliberately skip the foundation, and itâs giving me the best possible feel, natural, but enhanced, plus I notice my skin thriving underneath âš
I LOVE that you are sharing about celebrity Ads! I totally agree, Thank you for your consistency and honesty, its amazing to watch you grow! What's in my bag BS! lol. I feel like we need a publicist or someone who creates content for the brands to break it down for us. keep going, your skin is GLOWING
Happy anniversary! Love your vids, always look forward to your productrecs (and my now fave products are a lot of products that you recommended, so when I go to buy something I know I will like it đ). Been watching your vlogs since 2020 I think, so just started watching some older vlogs!
It is absolutely blanton regarding the ads. My husband and I play a little game to see who when watching things can point out as many things we can "catch" if you will. So I totally get you and agree, girl! Xoxo â€ïž
YES! Im having anxiety rn. What best way to distract myself than with my favorite content creator and awesome videos â€

Happy YT 10th, Allana! I've followed your channel from the very early days - how wild is that! You have bloomed, woman! đđđ so happy for you - wishing you more happiness, esp with your next chapter with Dan đ
Happy birthday 10 year anniversary Allanađ what an amazing achievement and amazing year ahead for you and Dejan â€
To be honest I basically consider everything to be an ad , but having said that this is the bread and butter of content creators : celebrities etc but absolutely agree everyone should have the same rules applied. X
A decade on YT!!!! that's crazy.. we love you so much Allana, thank you for keeping us entertained at all times, you truly are a sunshine
10 years! Wow, that is so exciting. đ Thatâs crazy you were only 20 when you started this channel. I donât remember what year I started watching except that you were living in Calgary going to university. It truly has been such a joy to watch you grow into yourself as an individual, but also into your career on CZcams. I think what I love most about you is that you have also always stayed true to yourself and your character. You remain grateful and sincere and genuine and I think that has so much to do with your success. I think quite often Iâm watching simply because youâre a delight, not even so much about the make up or the subject of the video. That being said, I also do enjoy your content a lot. Without a doubt, I have been influenced! Iâve purchased many many things that you recommend, not just make up but clothing and also have used some of your recipes. I love that you have so many different things that you talk about and how varied it is. Youâve really grown into such a beautiful woman inside and out. Iâm really excited for you for this next chapter of becoming a wife. How cool is that to say! †congratulations to you on 10 years!
Thank you for talking about advertising and how itâs different rules for different industries. That is odd. I hadnât really thought of it before but youâre so right. I do notice it when Iâm watching television and movies like you mentioned. Iâm always aware that I am actually the commodity. I think I have the most respect for the influencers who are very open about the ads and to be honest for those people, I am generally sincerely happy for them that they have the sponsorship. Watching you on CZcams is free content so if me watching an ad contributes to your pay that seems only fair but also ethical. I noticed on Karissa Pukas Instagram today somebody complained about her having so many sponsorships. Iâve never understood complaining about it. Itâs free for us to watch and absolutely no skin off my back nor does it impact my trust in you as an influencer. Also, I have benefited from some of those sponsorships because I actually do discover new products that I still use today. I just think good for you, you deserve to get paid. But one thing that makes you unique as an influencer space is that you truly are so incredibly grateful to experience these wonderful trips and opportunities and as someone who has followed you for so long it makes me so happy for you to have these experiences. You work hard, and itâs not a job that I would want. I donât think itâs a job that most of us would want. So to complain about it seems petty. So, considering the differences of how ads are required to be revealed amongst industries, Iâm curious how that makes you feel? Do you wish you didnât have all the rules that you do or do you think thatâs how the other industries should also be operating? The show I think that is so blatantly advertising is the whole bachelor franchise. Itâs insane how much product placement is in that show. I find that annoying when itâs that excessive. Feels gross because that show is getting rich off the backs of every day humans and then still do all this product placement. Money hey. Itâs what makes the world go round.
YES... those Vogue getting ready videos and the Harpers Bazaar bag videos are so full of sneaky ads... Yes, you/we should talk more about that in your channel, it's very interesting indeed. Congratulations on the 10 yearsâ€â€â€â€đđđđ:
ooo, just had to wach it right away! my favourite

Iâve been with you for 7 years. Not quite the whole time. I still watch every vid! You see the same product placement in shows all the time- for example even though the women on Selling Sunset donât get a clothing budget at all, theyâre clearly given loads. Every time you see a bag, itâs clearly displayed on a desk/table with the logo facing the viewer. Without fail. Itâs so blatant.

I can attest to rhode skincare working for me. I donât know how but my pores are smaller in appearance and skin looks so hydrated. Congratulations on your career milestone đđ
I totally agree about the surreptitious advertising creep. I noticed it in the Barbie movie - so much product placement! But I couldn't see any acknowledgment of it (certainly not something that was obvious). I personally feel quite affronted at the indirect approach - I always appreciate that it's clear when influencers are being paid to share products - because I can then see how frequently that product shows up again in a non-sponsored context to see if it's a genuine love, or if it's just a sponsorship. I also don't really begrudge people doing a sponsorship for a product they don't adore, but think is just okay! Because it's clearly communicated as sponsored content, I know to take it with a grain of salt, in the context of their content overall, and form a perspective on the product from that. And I support you getting paid for the work you do!! So clearly demarcated content - I think it's great. I find I'm much less trusting when I see something that's not clear, like the what's in my bags. Such a funny world.
Congrats on 10 years Lan! I can't remember when I started watching, but it was at least 5 years ago! Back in the days of your apartment and the bob! You're my favourite content creator. Keep up the fabulous you-ness!
The review of the Mario blush was super helpful â€
Wow that blush look accelerated really quickly lol! Love the look!đ©”
love the lip !
You are the only person who feels the same way I do about that Makeup by Mario blush. Beautiful colors, but not as pigmented on the cheeks. Regarding the lash curlerâŠtry the newest version of the Rephr lash curler in the smaller size. I think it will fit your deeper set eye shape better and feel tons less awkward.
Was just about to suggest this! I have the old version, which is perfect because I have smaller, hooded eyes with really long lashes, and that one fits my eye shape and opens wide enough to get all of my lashes. I love it!
Yes I definitely always notice that too especially with the whatâs in the bag series. Also I watched the Sofia Richie video yesterday and thought the same that there is an obvious ad for Doen!!! đ itâs a shame because it would be really nice to see what the people you admire actually do use, wear, etc! Thank you for always being so transparent and down to earth. Love your content. Also could you do a hair routine video soon please with everyday products, etc đ
First of all, CONGRATULATIONS on your 10 year anniversary on YT đ„łđ„đŸ!
I often think/ see of product placement in movies and music videos mainly because they often stick out like a sore thumbđ! I actually never thought about it when it comes to the kind of videos you mentioned, unless thereâs multiple products of the same brand. From what I understand itâs a jungle of regulations you have to follow as a content creator! Of course I think that the rules should apply to everyone regardless of the product. I think that the beauty space is especially âattackedâ is first of all bc of a few bad apples that time and time again refuses to follow the rules, and bc the vast majority of consumers, often younger people, doesnât factor in that what you see on camera is not always how it looks in real life.
People are using their hard earned money on products the influencer âswearsâ is absolutely amazing and life changing (?), and often they get disappointed. Iâm not saying that they are lied to, but I believe that maybe not all are disclosed.. e.g. how did the influencer prep before putting on the foundation, skin type etc.
I just feel that either you trust the person reviewing it or you donât. (I trust you) Iâm wishing you a great weekend! đ
I love love u ur honesty and sincerity in what u tell us about everything and knowledge us with these info cuz i didn knoe this aboye spinsered celeberity videos and ytbers thank you thank you đ€đ€âșđđđ

pleaseeee do a hair tutorial for this sleek bun, i love it on you and I wanna achieve it like you!
Allana! We have the same eye shape, Iâll tell you how to curl your lashes lol look dead center into the mirror and put the curler like youâre going to curl your lashes, but then turn your face to the side, like giving yourself a side eye and then curl, itâll lift the lashes at the very corner of your eye and the middle, but not the ones in the inner 1/3 which is perfect for this eye shape. Itâll give you a total lift! Itâs not the same as just curling the edge of your eye lol pls trust me and try it, game changer
Yep, it makes the biggest difference especially if you have long lashes like Allanađ
Thankyou for speaking up! You're 100% right, some rules don't apply to others...shocking and people watch it mindlessly.

Another great vlog! Congratulations on 10 years! Regarding the product placement in movies, I always call out when I see obvious product placement in movies - but I wonder if they donât have to disclose that itâs an ad because theyâre not specifically endorsing or reviewing or discussing the product itâs just there. Regarding celebrities and stars who donât make disclosures, who knows?!
Happy & congratulations on your 10 years anniversary đđđ
you look so beautiful in that makeup Allana
You are so right about all you said . I'm one of the viewer who doesn't buy anything whenever it's said AD. so maybe that's the reason why someones try to hide it by request of the brands or simply don't want to show they get paid. anyway, I've been follow you from the begining and still love you honest your real , you're true to youself . happy anniversary to you channel.
I love so much ur blushâ€
My dear!!u 're so sweetđŸâ€ïž
Can't believe its already 10 years! Congrats â€đ
Happy 10 years!!! Cheers to more fabulousness. I love your videos and your honesty and I'm glad you brought up the sponsorship situation. The sponsorship thing irritates me only when they don't disclose. My husband showed me a video by Casey LaDelle, he actually talks in depth about how it all works including the placement of popular products in the videos. So the way he did his video was eye opening, I had no idea. He did his intro, then after his intro he pointed out all the name brand products that were in his intro and specifically placed ahead of time so they were seen by the viewer and the affiliate company. He didn't have to say a thing, just place the products in view and boom he gets paid. He covered a lot, so now I look at videos in a completely different way. Kind of bums me out that there are so many tricks and shady deals happening.
But I do know there are a lot of great content creators doing the right thing. You are included in that honest group so thank you!
I felt the same way about the Plumping blush veil thing by Mario. I was so excited, bought 2 of them right out the gate. The Barely blushing shade is too light for me, which is wild because I'm just light medium in complexion products. The peach one is nice, but just nice. So yeah, was kind of bummed about that!
And oh man you cracked me up with your no foundation. I thought you weren't going blend the concealer on your nose for a minute there! Lol
And yes, not disclosing gets on my nerves so bad! Like do they think we are stupid?!?
Last, your lips are gorg!
haha the lash curler... I'm terrified of them! :-) Makes me laugh so much. I just can't make myself use it
Happy 10 year anniversary đ I also pondered about the fact that most celebrity/luxe brands ad placements are always hidden. They donât disclose it. Itâs so weird. Speaking from an audience pov, I feel like I would trust you MORE with any sponsorship, than any other celebrity. Simply because you showcase your personality through the âadâ and within your videos. Whereas celebrities are getting more and more filtered, distant by the day, so you can sense the âperformance â in those specific ads, in my opinion. But again, its only for certain celebrities, just like I wouldnât trust every other influencer. I think the audience is becoming smarter and less gullible these days, so that will also change the way we do things now.
I have noticed and wondered the same thing. I think they should be treated the same and forced to disclose. Only fair. Thank you. Loved the chat and you looked stunning. â€ïž
Congrats on 10 years Allana! đ
Thank you â€â€â€
Omg! Allana! I so agree with Vogue! Like the get ready with mes with celebrities... like they are a walking ad for all the products that pay for advertisements in vogue!
Which color Armani concealer did you use? So lovely! đ
Wow! I def have been watching /following you for 10 years! I remember my son was just a baby & your videos helped me get through some hard times as a young mom! now heâs almost 11 years old! And I havenât aged a day đCrazy⊠đ
PS- Thanks for everything youâve done for me and taught me about make up, beauty and fashion! Thanks for staying down to earth and bringing humor to this world. â€
I love hoe fun you are i love ur makeup looks i love everythibg u talk about â€â€
When you do your eyelash curler, I honestly donât go all the way to the root bc it pinches me too. I go up slightly and make sure you squeeze them gently a few times :) donât just squeeze and leave it there. Hope it helps lady!
Vogue is a magazine and those are full of advertisement so the videos are too. It's a company not an influencer who appears like normal friendly people who just talk about their favorite lipsticks. There is a big difference.
I started following you in 2020 and really enjoy your videos †you inspired me to start my own CZcams channel â€â€â€ yes! Iâve noticed celebrities alcohol companies being promoted in their movies. SO OBVIOUS when you know they own them đ I would ( will) be also so excited for sponsorships⊠like shout it from the roof tops! Lol
Your skin always looks great but damn, phenomenal. đ€đŒ
If you don't like those lashcurlers you need to try those "half curlers". No idea what they're actually called, but they're half the size and you only curl sections of your lashes at the time. Works great for me. I couldn't use those large ones as they just don't fit my eyes.
The video of Sophia Richie shopping at DĂŽen wasnât a paid ad by the brand just FYI! I work for the company and we were just as excited/surprised to see the video as everyone else was! đ
Stunning! đ
Congrats on 10! I am soooo here for the natural, dewy, wwwhetttt makeup đđžđŠ
Totally agree w the celebrity thing bc they infer they use the products. For movies, everything is a commercial decision so I donât think disclosure is needed there the same way. Some movies are sponsored by the US Dept of Defense which is a fun thing to look up. Marvel movies and such usually always have a different car brand they feature (but the Creature Comforts beer in Endgame wasnât sponsored- just a beer they liked while filming in Atlanta).
I watched the Vogue video with Sophia and saw Picante picking out behind another product and thought, who are you kidding? I knew what every product was without even seeing a label. The Doen store drop -in annoyed me no end because it was so OBVIOUSLY an AD. Your rant is justified Allana.
try the huda beauty loos powdre
Happiest 10 years ever †about the disclosure in videos. Apparently, even if the creator lives in another country but their content is available to the US, they then have to follow the US regulations. Jen Luvs did a whole video about it , and Tea Spill touched on it. But yeah, how is it so many get away with not disclosing ads? I appreciate you and your honesty.
Have a âmeet the principalâ night at my girlsâ school tonight, but I will be watching this as soon as I get home! Just need a quiet night as a do some makeup chores and listen/watch one of your vids! â€
Hi Lan! Late in commenting here, but found your comments on sponsorships and disclosure really interesting. I work on the brand side and manage partnerships with influencers/celebs across social media and press (both paid and earned). In short, I'd say that I agree with you that the rules are not uniformly clear. Me and my team spend A LOT of time making sure we are playing by the most recent rules and in compliance with all disclosure requirements on social, but in press it is a different story. The same celeb can promote on social with all the necessary call-outs and then mention one of our products in their "favorites" round-up in press and sometimes their relationship as an ambassador for our brand is mentioned, and sometime it isn't. And, frankly, as the brand we don't always have knowledge of if/how the brand relationship will be shared in press (it is often at the editor's discretion or the specific outlet's policy).
