I'm Jewish and first heard this song when the Andrews Sisters released a "songs of faith" album, as they were known, in I think maybe around 1948 when I was 8 years old. I already had decided I would be a singer and had named myself Jim Andrews, the Andrews brother (!). At that point I also already had a photo autographed by Patty, Maxene and Laverne. I grew up in a neighborhood with people of all religions and I would go to church with friends and they would come to temple with me. When a friend wanted to visit his grandparents in Ohio I went with him and found out his grandmother was a minister. We went Sunday morning to her little church in the wildwood with maybe a dozen congregants there. Out of the blue she introduced me and said I would select the hymns that service. Thank God for all my Protestant and Catholic friends. I reeled over song title after song title, beginning with "In the Garden." At Sunday dinner I asked if she knew I was Jewish and she said, "Yes, but somehow I also knew you'd know all the hymns." God works in mysterious ways.
I remember this song so well, It was sung at my mom's funeral. I can just see her walking with Jesus being filled with his Love and Joy! This will always be my favorite song and Anne Murray has the perfect voice for it!
My Dad who is 94 now sang this all the time when i was growing up........he says his voice isn't good now but i disagree. A beautiful song!!! Love you Dad!
+Francie Gwin there's nothing like the voices of our parents praising God hey? I still get chills about How Great Thou Art because of my dad's rendition of it :)

This hymn has been sung at every family members passing in the 65 years I have been on earth and probably long before that, and it will be sung at my passing ,too. Just the sound of the first few notes brings all those loved ones back. Thank you Anne.
Whenever I hear this song it brings back memories of my mother singing it in the kitchen as she washed dishes... It was one of my mother's favorites and mine too.
Such a beautiful hymn! So touching. And Ann is the perfect artist to sing it. Yesterday, when you played it for us, I thought it would be great to have it available on YT. Thank you, my hero. :)
There is Nothing So Deeply Felt as the Voice of Gods Comfort Sang By Annie the Angel ~~~~~ Don't Hesitate Follow your Heart accept Jesus for a Fresh Start!
I knew Anne back when she played backup bass for a garage rock band in Ann Arbor, Mi. She wasn’t the best with rhythm but her voice made up for that. However the band broke up due to political reasons and I think she went on to make an infomercial or two. Whenever I hear that voice I’m transported back to a time when a college was so afraid of their students they engineered a siege proof administration building. Something tells me for the worker to prevail it will never happen on American soil.
Even now Lord you are speaking. I love you so much. Lord God bless each soul that hears this be their comfort and strength be their peace.
