I heard the rambling for years about GoT, never really gave it much thought. I ended up binge watching all 7 seasons in 3 weeks. GoT is HBO's heroin. I'm going to let the final season play out and binge watch the whole thing.

Shot Caller sounds exactly like the arch of the one "white-collar" criminal in HBO's first deep drama series OZ. Decent guy has some drinks, wrecks his car, someone dies, he goes to prison and becomes a bit of monster eventually. That show really does not get enough credit. Were it not for OZ, Breaking Bad, and the remake of Battlestar Galactica, I do not believe shows as morally complex, and with such huge production value, would exist today. They are, in my opinion, the fore-fathers of shows like Game of Thrones.

However my point was that if complex and "shaded" characters, themes, and situations had not been previously explored by such shows (and more importantly those shows were popular), HBO would never have committed to making a show based on those books in the first place. If everyone only wanted vapid, episodic dramas where "these are the heroes, and these are the villians", and the hero solves the problem at the end of each episode, that is all that would exist. OZ was, to my knowledge, the first drama on t.v. that was not at all episodic.
We do need something done about our prison I'm so glad that someone recognizes that. Need some programs in our prisons to help them get out of the cycle they are in. And not just for the men women prisons to.

I'm now 43 and have had multiple stretches of AT LEAST 72 hours (and NOT just by way of illegal drugs :p ... and nevermind lots of other previous individual bouts of 24-48 hours) Most of those happened very much against my better wishes, but they still happened.
