The other thing I have learnt the most painful way is to use google search console to run live test and see how google sees my website on the screenshot. Ensure that the first visible content on the screenshot has the h1 tag, satisfies the search intent and most importantly is UNIQUE in terms of usage, this is a proven method to beat even high DA sites and not many know about this.

@nathangotch I was wondering - if I create a page to target a specific location: what is the best way to provide internal links to the page without necessarily putting it in the main menu? Or would you include it in the main menu? I'd prefer not to have a link there for every location we decide to target, but I understand that internal links are necessary.

This is a very good cutting point for SEO tutorials. Hands-on practice from scratch and just record everything you did to rank a new website to page 1 for the local SEO. I will follow up on all videos 100%. You would meet obstacles in reality and will solve them accordingly. That will be the most valuable part for an SEO tutorial. Nobody dares to do it in the industry. There are thousands of SEO courses, but nobody truly demonstrates how it works from scratch in the real world.

Nathan, My competitors are targeting pages for a keyword I want to rank for. I've got emd for that keyword. Should I optimize for the homepage and put static page content for that keyword and then build topical authority from posts?

Would you create separate landing pages for keywords like, "Commercial Roofing Los Angeles, CA" & "Commercial Roofing Installation and Replacement Los Angeles, CA"? Or, would you merge both of these together? Let's say the SERP is 2-3 same homepages across both of these keywords. At the same time, showing few other pages optimized for those specific keywords. What would be your approach?

That's a great video on how to get a significantly weak website ranking on the second page to the first page. Can you also do a video on how to optimize an already decently optimized page rabking on the 1st page already but wanting to move up in ranking. Let's say from third position to first. I believe sometimes in situations like that, things can geteven more complicated. Great content again!

Hey Nathan, so in this case - for the pages titled "best eyelash extensions in brentwood / st louis / clayton" - would you build a "locations" section on the top menu of the website where there would be a drop-down, or should these pages exist on their own all using the same menu?
Hey Moe, depends on the competition level of the supporting locations. If they're competitive, then having internal link coverage across the entire site using the navigation might be wise. Otherwise, a dedicated locations page should be good enough

Good stuff Nathan , when doing the content to increase the relevance where within the site would you have them placed ? Would you make those into a virtual silo and interlink them to each each other with well targeted anchors as well as link each, again with exact match anchors to the target page? Or would you have these pages somewhere in the navigation structure?
Thanks! My general rule is that if it the keyword/content idea has informational intent, then it'll be on the blog. As far as internal linking, it's 100% based on relevance. For transactional pages like "eyelash extensions LOCATION", I'll sometimes put them in the sitewide nav or I'll create a dedicated "Locations" page and link to that in the nav

Great content.. always learning from you. The pagespeed score is overrated though, its on google's least priority.. for example just embedding a youtube video (which one would think is good in terms of unique media) would bring down your pagespeed score from 75 to 25

Nice video. I think another crucial thing is making sure the business has good presence on all most important local directories. Moz has a tool called "Moz local listing score" that can provide a very good starting point. After that, the more directories you sign up for the better. I did this along with some on-page optimisation & new content creation and saw great results for a local business I used to work for.

You'll need a dedicated address in the core location, optimize the GMB for keyword variations, and then focus on review acquisition

wow so many gold nuggets of local SEO information here. You're the best 🙌 What would you do different for a local service based business (no physical address)? I.e. lets say that eyelash extension business went to the customer's house (no shop front). I guess that only affects Google Business Profile? Also how do the home page and targeted clayton & st louis pages differ?
Thanks Chad! Would focus on a "Service Area" for the Google Business profile and optimize it for the additional locations. Then everything else is pretty much the same like creating dedicated location pages for traditional organic. The general structure of the pages will be the same, but the content must be different. Focus on bottom of the funnel content like case studies, testimonials, # reasons to hire us, FAQs, etc.

Great video Nathan! I run a cleaning company that covers a large area/different towns. Am I better with one main website and optimise individual pages for those areas or should I have separate websites with specific/good authority domains and try rank them as individual sites? Hope that makes sense !
Optimise pages - it’s difficult to rank a home page compared to distinct pages. Location modifiers will aid in the ranking for individual cities.
In addition, for GMB, you need to theoretically have a different business to create a whole, new GMB profile.
Thanks Ryan! If they're surrounding cities, then I would likely build on the same site. Create a dedicated page for each city and make the content 100% unique on each page. In short, it's easier to grow website authority with one site

@@nathangotch Hey Nathan, I have a client that has multiple bars under the same name that’s in this situation but we built out multiple sites to really dominate the other neighborhood bars they are up against and it’s working as we are putting the city name in the domain name as well as other things. How is that not a better method than the single site? Also they are franchising and the franchisees want their own sister site, not a page on the main site (better value perception). Thoughts please? Amazing stuff by the way.

Local niches are dominated by high quality directories or big startup companies. So, even if the KD is low, it hard enough to be in top 3 position. You missed schema, internal linking, multi location strategy, site architectures.
